was the crown prince of the State of **Yan**. His status as a hostage is explained by the geopolitics of the era:

To guarantee peace, seal alliances, or ensure adherence to treaties between kingdoms, royal families exchanged princes as living pledges. If a state violated a treaty, the prince's life served as a bargaining chip.

**The situation in Zhao:**

Jidan was initially sent as a hostage to the State of **Zhao** during the same period that the young Ei Sei was also being held there. Jidan's presence was intended to contain military tensions between Yan and Zhao.

**Ei Sei’s Childhood in Zhao (The Hostage Arc)** **Context & Hostility:**

After the Battle of Chouhei (Changping), where Qin buried 400 000 Zhao soldiers alive, young Ei Sei lives as a royal hostage in Zhao's capital, Handan. He endures extreme abuse, starvation, and physical violence from the citizens and Zhao royals, leaving him emotionally numb and incapable of feeling physical pain.

**Bond with Jidan:**

Jidan (Prince Dan of Yan) is also held as a hostage in Zhao. Recognizing their shared plight, the two boys form a close bond. Jidan acts as a key companion during Ei Sei's dark childhood, sharing his grief and struggle to survive in a hostile environment, and the promesse they made for future time, when they gona grow up.

**Confrontation with Guo Kai and the two Zhao Princes:**

As hostages, Ei Sei and Jidan are targeted and tormented by Guo Kai and the young princes of Zhao. During these encounters, Guo Kai actively instigates violence against them, taking advantage of Qin's hated reputation to torture Ei Sei without fear of immediate retaliation.

**The Villa Incident:**

Seeking a brief moment of escape, Ei Sei, Jidan, and those sheltering them stay at a secluded villa. However, Zhao pursuers track them down, resulting in a brutal attack. For Ei Sei serving as a critical turning point that deepens his trauma and hatred towards people of Zhao state, before his eventual escape to Qin with the help of Shika (Zi Xia).

If Hara follows the historical path, I’d really love to see how he depicts Eisei walking through Kantan; that’s where Kanki would have actually been useful. I’ve heard some YouTubers say he’ll treat the people of Zhao the same way he treated the people of Han, but the people of Handan—aka Kantan—will be a whole different story, I think. However, it looks like Hara has scrapped the earthquake that was supposed to happen at the start of the invasion; I just hope he doesn't cut the massacre that concludes tthe Zhao arc.

The birth: While the queen was giving birth amidst the palace ruins, the third prince entered the world with a powerful cry. The moment the baby was born, the earthquake came to an abrupt halt. The king noticed that the infant stopped crying as soon as he caught sight of his father, and thus named him Renhao.
