Mosquitoes!!

For years now I haven’t been able to enjoy my tiny yard in the summer, because the second I step outside I get chomped to smithereens by these damn skeeters! I just went out to try and garden coated in the most chemically horrible Deep Woods Super Sonic Repels Everybody Off spray, and they didn’t care one bit, bit my poor legs up anyway. For prevention/elimination, I’ve been trying these all-natural “mosquito dunks” and they don’t work at all, plus raccoons eat them.

I really don’t want to resort to some kind of chemical killer (don’t think it would work anyway given the context), but I’m desperate. Any advice or suggestions on strategies people have used that worked? Maybe an old-school zapper? For context I have no standing water around or anything (except my mosquito dunk bucket), but my yard is quite shady if that matters).

Where is everyone watching the tall ships from tomorrow?

I don’t care about fireworks; I’m just excited for some tall-masted wind-powered seafaring maritime action! Trying to decide on the best spot for viewing. Wish there was a shady spot on the water but can’t think of one - maybe that tree-lined pier in Hoboken but I’m sure it will be jammed.

July 4 Tall Ships Parade Viewing?

Anyone know if JC in particular (or LSP) is making any special arrangements for crowds coming to the waterfront to watch the ships? I really want to see them, but thinking it might just be a crazy free-for-all of people jamming up the waterfront. Is there a local plan, or are my suspicions probably correct?

▲ 3 r/Catbehavior+1 crossposts

I have an 18-year-old cat (neutered male), and I adopted a new cat a few weeks ago (3-year-old spayed female). My old cat has always been very friendly with other cats, and when the new cat got here he was good, very interested in her, sniffing and cautiously approaching. She was understandably nervous, a bit of hissing and yowling. But not too serious, and I felt like with time they’d both settle in. And they were…slowly but surely they could sit on the couch together, and they even both slept peacefully in my bed together just a couple of nights ago. Now just today, all of a sudden, my old boy has started attacking her, running at her with claws flying, and of course she reacts badly, screaming and fighting back, and finally retreating to the basement (her safe place). I have no idea what suddenly changed or why my old guy got so agitated all of a sudden. I don’t want to have to keep them separated but I’m worried he’s just going to keep tormenting her. Any advice is welcome, thanks!
