Should I just try the manga? How different is it from the anime?

I tried to watch the Black clover anime 3 times but I dropped it every single time… but not for the usual reason. I can see that the story and the characters are interesting and are totally worth the time, however in the beginning the humour (even though most of it is too quality) is so much and the pacing makes it even worse because it’s difficult to follow the story. So, as I am planning to give the manga a shot, may I just ask - how do the anime and manga differ? Does the anime have extra/cut/changed content? And also, is there a point where it gets more serious and the anime (in my case) is worth it?

What is the most philosophical fantasy book you can recommend me?

I am looking for a fantasy book in which the characters have to face philosophical and moral challenges and their problems are not only physical but also moral. Or to be a little bit more precise: I am looking for an author who wants to explore a certain philosophical topic and give the book in question as an example of their opinion or concern about it. I find this a lot more in manga and web/light novels (like Bleach, Naruto, One piece, solo leveling, Vinland saga, Lord of the mysteries, revered insanity and many more)
So I am looking for something with this level of depth. In other words I could say: I am looking for something that isn’t there just to entertain me, but to give me a lot to think about and reflect. (Another non-literature but also good example of what kind of story I am searching is Arcane.)

And as far as I digged into recommendations except for The Witcher and Tolkien there isn’t really anything like this. (It can’t be, right?)
And just to mention: Yes I have already read The sword of Kaigen.

I am making a book cover illustration for “The Faith of beasts” could I ask a few questions?

So one of the main fantasy/sci-fi publishering houses in my country is making an illustration contest for two upcoming books and one of them is The Faith of Beasts. I am a slow reader and I have less than 10 days to finish the illustration so reading it is not an option. I am sorry, to disappoint 😔. I read summaries of the first two novels in the series and wiki fandom was extremely useful, so if any of you have contributed to the wiki page - thank you! Anyway, I have a few questions that I want to make sure I understand before I accidentally draw something very stupid, lol.

First and most important: Our boy Dafyd… how does he look like? I read the post about it… that none of the human characters are described and if there is a description it’s almost insignificant and I get it, it would probably be easier for the tv adaptation. However at least I want to know how old is he? In his 20s? And most importantly what does he wear in the second book while being in captivity?

For context what I am planning to draw (at least for now) is reimagining of his idea towards the end of the book.

Second: So the Carryx want to mix with humans so they can populate the planet easer? And Dafyd is forced to figure out how the Carryx can adapt both biologically and culturally? (Because he is useful and so is given this task instead of rotting in a cell)

Third: Does he actually manage to create these… hybrid babies, how do they look like and what happens to them? In all the summaries this was never explained.

Forth: what does the planet look like? I mean like a landscape. Yellow rocky land like in the original cover of ,,Mercy of gods?” (For some reason I doubt it) humanity has universities and all kinds of normal things. My main concern is how the nature affects the infrastructure. But I am asking about the natural landscape itself.

Fifth: The night drinkers: can they talk? Are they humanity’s ally and do they appear in the story? I mean what is their significance to the plot? Do they play an important role or are they just world building?

Sixth: The Swarm - very cool, very interesting development, but a totally mystery. Is it supposed to be like this? (This is more of a personal curiosity, lol)

As as side note I would like to add: Wow, guys you are an amazing community. Reading so many posts here I really felt the friendship and love for the series. Also, as a treat let me present to you the Bulgarian cover of Mercy of gods that you probably haven’t seen

How do you find a girl/boyfriend? What is the Gen Z way?

I don’t mean “how do you get one” I mean literally where/how did find each other?
I am making this post here because people say this thing has become much harder for our generation… and I am kinda starting to feel it, I am 22M and I have never had a GF. Not because I am or feel like a loser or out of insecurities, but because I was too focused on improving myself that I just didn’t have the time nor interest for relationships.
Honestly nightclubs and bars are the last places I want to go. I have gone a few times and honestly just people who go there are nothing like me so even if it is purely so I can meet new people, it’s pointless. And also based on what I have seen and heard our generation don’t really go there to find new people but to have fun with friends. And this advice really comes from older generations and I don’t think it’s that relevant for us. (But this is just my opinion and experience)

So when the go to solution is not an option… where to? I am going on a club ( I mean that one where people with common interests go and talk about, not parties, lol) and I am trying a few others and while I do think that it might work out eventually (despite going there because I like it not because I expect to find a girlfriend there) I am beginning to think that relying on it is a mistake and I am missing the actual thing I should be doing.

My main problem isn’t that I cannot form a relationship, I almost did several times but it’s just that I very quickly realised none of them were the one nor were they actually close. And another thing that makes it even more difficult is that when I mean “I want a girlfriend” I mean I want to find quiet and real love like enjoying the time together, I don’t want sex or going somewhere so we can post photos on instagram.

I am confused about transitioning between prednisone and imuran (azathioprine)

Backstory:

After Covid for 5 years I had slightly elevated ast and alt, no symptoms, I found out accidentally after a blood test. I have been tested for all positive things… twice. No diagnosis, no symptoms, no cause only ast around 60-150 and alt around 125 - 250 no matter what medicine I was taking. Last November they highly elevated to 350-ish ast and 769 alt (still no symptoms). Then I underwent NMR - didn’t show anything bad and then biopsy which showed that I have slight curable fibrosis with ASSUMPTION that it is caused by AIH. (It happened this March btw) one month after the “regular treatment” as the doctor called it clearly wasn’t the right for me (because ast and alt were slowly lowering but then when high again out of nowhere ast 154 and alt 512) and he made an experiment which was prednisone 30 mg per day and WOW! Ast had normal levels and alt was also almost there.

The important part:

But as I slowly started reducing prednisone and adding imuran my enzyme levels started going up slowly. (With 10-20 units per week based on the biweekly tests) Now I am taking 10mg prednisone per day and two 50mg imuran pills per day and ast and alt are still going up little by little.
My question is: This is to be expected, isn’t it?
First - prednisone did the trick and now that I am reducing it obviously this should happen, right?
Second - today is my 27th day of imuran and they say the effect starts after at least 3 months.

If things are not as I see them, please let me know, despite looking at the situation this way I am still worried.

What should I expect from prednisone and azathioprine?

Hi, I have had high ast and alt for 5 years (or at least I know since 5 years ago) they were elevated slightly, on average around 80 ast and 180-200 alt jumping up and down a little. I went through 4 doctors, none of them knew what was going on with my liver and were giving me standard treatment that… didn’t actually had an effect. I have never had any symptoms, ultrasound was always clean. 7 months ago though, ast and alt jumped to 350 and 764 and I went to the best gastroenterologist in my country. NMR showed no problems, but biopsy found I had a little fibrosis in beginning stages. The cause of it being autoimmune hepatitis was possible. The doctor gave me another standard treatment pills and they also failed at the end to cure me. Now, one month ago he said that this shouldn’t happen and told me to take prednisone since it can’t be anything else but autoimmune hepatitis. At that time my ast and alt were 124 and 512 respectively. In one week of 30mg prednisone and another with 25mg per day they shank down to 31 ast and 118 alt, which was a miracle! The doctor said that this treatment works on me exactly as it should! Since then I take prednisone reducing it with 5mg per week and I take 50mg Imuran (azathioprine) per day. However, after almost two weeks ast and alt have again elevated to 48 ast and 144 alt.
I am very worried because I have no idea if they actually help or not, or if they help but since I am reducing the prednisone pills this is to be expected? (And the doctor said that Imuran’s effect would actually start in three months or so.)
How does this treatment work?

What would you say is the most unique aspect of The Witcher (as a story)

TLDR: I am new to the Witcher, I am a book reader and not a gamer. I know only some super-beginner things about the games and I remember enjoying the first season. I am thinking of readings the series but I wonder as a story how does it differ from all the other famous fantasy series? (like The cosmere, The realm of the elderlings, The first law, the Bloodsworn saga, Red rising and others)
(I have four main questions on the end of the post)

Hello! I am new guy here and I have been thinking if I should read the books already. All my life I have been around people who absolutely adore the games but I am not much of a gamer, instead I am the fantasy books guy (lol)
The reason why I am making this post is because, well, I am getting a little bit disappointed by the majority of (American) fantasy writers. I am not saying they are bad, but I see that while characters from different books have different problems, their approach towards solving these problems tends to be repetitive. And what the authors think the readers would like to see also seems a little bit repetitive. But I guess this is a to be expected since they are first published in the west and authors know their audience.
On the other hand I really enjoy manga because the tone, the values of the characters and the authors feel more insightful and deep in my opinion, more personal. And the different philosophy can offer a completely different kind of story with a completely different message behind it. But again, this is because of differences and variety of tradition and culture and so the main audience is also different and expects different things.

And while The Witcher is written by a Polish author, focusing on Slavic mythology and culture (as I have noticed at least. And also I am a Slavic myself) and knowing how famous it is (game and TV adaptations) I hardly ever hear someone talk about the books. I know they are selling well and I know of some people who’ve read them ( at least in my country), but it seems it’s not that famous in the west from my research that I did. Which is very strange to me. And so I know what gamers think about the games, but I don’t really know what readers think about the books.

So I wanted to ask :

  1. What is it that makes the books so special that they have deserved all the adaptations?
  2. Compared to other fantasy giants of this century, how does it differ and what does it have to offer?
  3. Is it more of a “same type of story with different structure and setting” or is it more of a “different type of story with some well-known themes” ?
