Stop seeing a OBGYN if you want to conceive

I am exaggerating this title just to get attention!!

Obgyns are the experts … on pregnancy. They are the ones that know everything about a pregnancy.

RE (reproductive endocrinologist) are the people to GET you pregnant.

If you are at early stages and can’t see a RE, ok, but push to see one. RE has more resources, knowledge, etc. They ask more tests.

OBs generally shove letrozole or clomid to people without even asking for a HSG or SA.

Positive experience with IVF

I decided to make this post, to give hope and a positive perspective to someone.

Trigger warning: euploids, numbers, etc, LC.

I am 38.5yo. I have a child conceived after years of infertility using letrozole. I have PCOS/PMOS.

We tried for our second child using letrozole and thought it could work well. After having three negative cycles, my RE said she recommended IVF due to age, secondary infertility (here again), possible abnormalities… etc.
I was afraid of IVF (yes, I was, the stims, the numbers, the time, the monitoring, the mental space) and asked for a month to think and while thinking we made the decision to just go ahead and do what insurance would ask for us (labs, hysteroscopy, SA, etc). My doctor moves fast and she has this sense of urgency that aligned well with my moment. I wanted to move fast. And IVF taught me that time is unpredictable.
After we got all cleared, we started our process. Did 9 days of stims with 225 gonal and 1 vial menopur. I was fine most of the time except day 6 for some reason more bloated.
I responded well. We can only afford one more child. I wish I could have more and I have personal beliefs that makes me question a little bit excess of embryos. This applies for myself so please don’t judge. My doctor said at my age and egg quality we would have around 30% euploids.
They recovered 34 eggs. I dont know how many mature, but 23 fertilized, 12 became blasts. And from the 12, I have 7 euploids of good grades (they are also day 5), 1 segmental aneuploid and 4 aneuploids. This is more than I could ever imagine/expect. I know I am in the middle of the process and have no idea how many transfers will take. I also learned - although we did not want to learn that - that we have both sexes. We don’t want to choose, I feel wrong choosing a boy or a girl. And again, no shame for people that choose. Sometimes I catch myself thinking a different sex from what I have could be fun, then thinking the same is also fun. We never had a preference. We always prayed for a healthy child.
When I started this journey, I read many negative stories and they exist because IVF can be really hard. It is time consuming, money, disappointment, timeline, unexpected shit…
But IVF, for some people, can be positive.

I am not dismissing negative experiences. I am sharing a positive so in the future people can also read a positive story. So far, things have been great.

For a miracle, I did not even need miralax, lol.
Even that was good! My menopur does not sting!

I am looking forward for a fully medicated transfer cycle and I hope that works well.
I wanted to encourage people to try. IVF can go really bad, can go mid, can go well. It is a surprise.

Be blessed and I wish you all success in your journey!

Embryo results: NO grading?!

Hi.

Anyone got their number of embryos sent to PGTA but did not get results of grading or when they were frozen?! Like no info on quality?!

I just got a letter in my portal saying that they sent X amount to PGTA.

Weird?!

Letter with number of embryos but no grades?!

TW: Embryo number

Happy embryologist day!

I got a letter in my patient portal today.
They said the amount of embryos and that are now on ice and sent to biopsy.
We got 12 but no grade. We dont know when they were frozen or their quality.

Can I assume that the 12 sent are at least decent quality or they sent all I have for PGTA regardless of quality?

Is this normal??

ER yesterday

First time posting. Sorry if not allowed.

ER was yesterday. I had a very positive experience. We retrieved more eggs than I thought and now waiting results on maturity and fertilization rates.

Yesterday my husband had flowers for me and he also bought treats, food and medicine.

I’m trying to stay very positive regarding IVF and I’m glad that I found this subReddit.

How to handle the anxiety of the waiting?!

ER tomorrow!

Hey hey!

My first egg retrieval is tomorrow. I am 38 and I have PCOS.
I am excited and want support, prayers, vibes and anything nice you want to send my way.

I did stims for 9 days and I triggered yesterday with lupron only.

I will take miralax, but want to start tomorrow as so far I have been going. I will also have electrolytes.

When do we eat the Mc donalds fries? Haha

Got my protocol for first IVF. Opinions?

Well, I got my protocol. I am 38, PCOS.

CD2: US + evening: Gonal F 225
CD3 to CD7: Morning: Menopur 1 vial + evening: Gonal F 225
CD7: estrogen and progesterone blood test.
Menopur 1 vial morning.
Maybe start 0.25mg of ganirelix.

How does that sound?

I will also need birth control for couple of weeks to induce a period since I never have one.

What the heck with french fries?

New here/to this. Will have my first appt next week. I have seen some comments about eating french fries during IVF.

What is this? Why? When?
Educate me ❤️

Are we changing the subs name?

Now we know PCOS is PMOS.
Are we changing? Any opinions and thoughts?

Curious.

ETA: Thank you for input. I think the name should be the same/same sub, but I would suggest for MODS to make an official post about the change so can educate people.

Best advice for newbie

I will start IVF in June - first consultation.
We did genetic testing, SA this week (repeating) and hysteroscopy and HSG done.

We previously did letrozole + trigger. I have PCOS and 38yo.

What is the BEST advice you have for me in terms of IVF process/navigating.

What is the one thing you wished someone told you or that you learned and care to share?

Appreciate your time!

Hello! I am new here.
I am 38F and I have PCOS. I did monitored cycles of letrozole and I ovulated in all of them, but did not work. My doctor recommended IVF and we decided that that makes sense given our circumstances.

I know little about IVF, just trying to lurker around and see what I can learn.

If you can help me:
- What did you wish you knew before starting?
- Tips to learn? Videos? Youtube? Reddit?
- Tips to prepare pre-IVF?
- How do you handle it emotionally?
- If you have PCOS, what is your experience?
- If you had more embryos and were successful, what are you doing with them after done? Donating to science? To someone (is this allowed?), destroying them? I feel somehow that I would be attached and trying to reflect.

I appreciate your time and help.
I like to cheer on people and I am really glad to see that this community has many supportive members.
Thank you again!

Looking for experiences. Do you have a toddler in daycare and a newborn at home? If so, how do you handle all the daycare illnesses with a newborn?
I’m curious how others manage this. Our toddler is sick very often since starting daycare 3 months ago—about half the time they’ve had to stay home due to illness.
For those who have another child, how do you feel about it? What has your experience been like having a newborn or young baby at home while your toddler is in daycare?
I’m especially worried about the newborn getting sick.
