TUF517ZC not booting properly (short circuit?)

Hi there. A friend donated their (most likely) water damaged TUF517ZC, or Dash F15 (2022) if you will.

Unfortunately, even after removing corrosion on MOSFET 2QN, and checking if ground is leaking on all MOSFETs, it would not boot. I then discovered some other corrosion under the heat sink, which I then also removed using 99% IPA and a light toothbrush, but to no avail. All corrosion in photos has been cleaned up and checked ground short circuit using multimeter.

There doesn't seem to be a short circuit anywhere on visually affected components. I will also admit that I do not do stuff with multimeters, and don't exactly know where to text for the main rail, so if anyone could help me out that would be amazing.

When it boots, it cycles on the X light (by doing a circle) and then keeps top left light on, top right (battery disconnected) flashes, and bottom right sometimes turns on.

I did find the board schematics online to find which pins are ground on MOSFETs, if that is of any use. Thanks for any and all help.

Film photography on the TTC

I recently came across a family member's Minolta SRT100X and immediately was intrigued. For context, I am an amateur high-school student photographer, nerdy enough to love/know the TTC.

Bought a roll of Kodak Gold 200 and started shooting, what I usually shoot, subways. Quite happy with the foggy vibe these turned out with. I love the first one, it is my new favorite TTC shot.

Will be posting my digital group of photos I have also been working on sometime soon.

The body itself was old, not used for a very long time, and the curtain had issues (doesn't close all the way, visible in a couple of photos as a light leak), as well as the prism being very foggy and difficult to focus through. The lens is quite bad in direct light, but that is fine, adds to the vibe up until I find another lens worthy picking up, but they are quite rare to come across.

Did you know that iTunes had colour-adapting backgrounds?

macOS Mountain Lion received a new iTunes update showing album background colours.

The OS used to have so much flair, I personally love it, as it was never in the way, but definitely visible. Lion had iPod-looking albums, in the shuffle list, which was equally interesting of a feature.

Got my ThinkPad T61 running Mountain Lion solely for iTunes' new look, otherwise, would have stuck around Lion.

Rate my new old drives!

(ignore the fact they are on my lap)

Two HGST helium (I believe he6) 6TB drives, in good health, still write/read close to 200mb/s. Really happy considering a friend gave them to me, even if they had just over 70,000h, but only 60 power cycles. Obviously, used in a server.

I have them in RAID 1 via Intel Rapid Storage, and they seem to work great!

tracks, trams, and trains

small obsession with the trains, sorry.

a6000.

photo 1, 2, 5, and 6 were all shot on the kit lens, 16-50mm.

photo 3 was shot on the OSS 50mm f/1.8.

photo 4 was shot with the 16-55mm f/2.8 G.

I am really stupid, and formatted my entire SSD. Is there any way to recover files?

I have a 2TB MP44L which I use for everything. about 1.5TB was my windows partition, and 400ish GB was my hackintosh. I formatted my windows partition because I mistyped inattentively while restoring one of my USB drives for a macOS installer (for another computer) and 1.5TB became HFS+, and has about 8GB used (like 5 files.)

Was wondering if it was somehow possible to recover any of the data on the 1.5TB partition... I only had about 50GB of semi-important stuff, and with my limited knowledge, a quick format (which was what was done) only marks up blocks for replacement, rather than deleting them. If so, is it possible to recover anything off the drive?

Thanks for any help

Light trails of light rail, TTC night shots. [OC]

These photos were shot on the CN Tower's fiftieth anniversary, and I am incredibly happy with the results. This was my first time shooting long exposures at night with streetcars, but will not be my last.

Warm night led to clean shots, and am happy to have the chance to live in such an alive city.

All feedback/criticism welcome. I am only trying to learn more, so if you do have input, provide at your will.

This was my first time shooting long exposures at night with streetcars, but will not be my last. I will be posting my first half of 2026 TTC photos by mid July, just finishing edits right now.

I also just finished my first edit/experience with DaVinci Resolve, the link is below. Feedback/criticism is appreciated, as a high school student wanting to improve what looks best for others eyes.

Thank you to all TTC operators for being cool with photos (at least in my experience) I got a lot of smiles and honks.

Couple of shots at Union.

Was going for an overall dramatic look with these. Shot a couple of days ago during the overcast cloudiness, tried to make the best of it.

Shot on A6000 & kit lens (16-50mm f/3.5-5.6).

Was really surprised by the great frequency during times of shooting. Props to Metrolinx for at least that, as last time we did this (2-3 years ago) either time moved slower (likely cause) or Lakeshore West didn't run every 15 minutes.

Too much piss? Asking for a friend

Half serious here, half joking here. I love to turn to the better subreddit for actual piss judgement.

Really the only thing i did is cranked a bit of highlights in a linear mask from the right, this is quite close to what IRL looked like, it was really nice out. Thanks for any critique or funny comments I can get by. I did consider using my aperture ring, on my Sony A6000, where aperture is my main tool for controlling my depth of field, where I shot wide open at 2.8.

ARM64 skews of DaVinci Resolve Studio? Does it exist?

Hiya. Curious to see whether GPU rendering will speed up my overall timeline editing in DaVinci Resolve Studio, as CPU is taking a whole load on my Surface laptop (7, x-plus/16/512). If it does, I will end up purchasing the Studio version, but I need to verify it will even dent the issue, or whether 16gbs ram is just not enough for 2 1080p videos (cuts, and thats it, lol.)

I am aware of 55r.xyz, they only have the x86 skew of DaVinci.

Thanks so much for any info on the topic.

the RMA experience

sent my refurbished SL7 16/512 in for repair for screen under warranty.

received defective refurbished unit. Windows would not do certain things properly (start menu was broken.) decided id reinstall tomorrow morning. I unplug it (around 80 percent) and it completely shuts down. refuses to turn back on with charger or without.

Cooked mobo? Very disappointed, will try to get it replaced though.

thanks for any and all help.

Just got my SL7 from in-warranty repair for a singular dead pixel and was wondering whether clean installs of Windows are worth it?

Would it be the standard ARM64 windows flavour or rather an official SL7 image? which do you suggest for better battery life? (I read somewhere on this subreddit that battery significantly improved after clean installation.)

Thanks for any and all help.

Here I come, 2 weeks later, with 5 new posters inspired by the commenters, thank you all for the help and support!

A couple of disclaimers for people who want me to make posters specifically addressing certain topics—I have no interest in taking photos of people who are out of luck that call TTC their home. While it is a glaring issue, it should not be publicly shamed, and I see no benefit putting up signs against people who are in such an unfortunate position. I also have no moral ground to take photos of people smoking, vaping, or taking drugs on the TTC due to the fact it can end aggressively (do remember, I am not of age to defend myself to an angry and uncontrollable adult, I prefer less risk.)

This series was massively contributed by u/tujewm as a model. Thank you, sir!

Another message about hanging it up publicly—I followed what the commenters said, and hung one up on the TTC, but not permanently, just for a photo-op. One group of TTC employees loved it, and suggested I email the TTC to do photography for them. Another group did not. Special Constables were at the scene telling us to take it off the wall “like now” and only got the opportunity to get a couple of photos. I will not be going out and publicly hanging them anymore as I do not prefer to be trespassed for loitering.

I mean no harm to anybody for these messages—these are simply parodies of the TTC’s advertising campaign used against people who are unhygienic, lack basic ideas of unwritten rules, or social cues. Thank you for understanding.

If you want high quality downloads, DM me.
