Elderly man gave me his dads old fishing gear

I have a 11.5 and a 16” build. I keep looking at a 14.5 but I honestly don’t see the benefits. Will 1.5 inches really make that much of a difference?

I noticed a black spot on my cats nose near his nostril. Is this just a freckle?

I clean his tank once a week and scrub but within a week a bunch of orange algae keeps growing. I have had him since December. This problem started about 3 months ago
