Pros and cons of a ryokan

I have been researching them for months. I think I want a smaller more private one but what are the pros and cons of going to a smaller vs one of the hotel ones??? I dont care about a bar but I would like to have a few drinks with my husband.

We are only doing 1 night so I have a great budget for it. $1000 a night for the two of us. It is our 10 year anniversary as well as his 40th. (If anyone has any other suggestions on what we can do to celebrate I’d be happy to hear them)

I’m hoping for dinner and breakfast to be included

And a private onsen is an absolute must. Big enough for two.

Open to suggestions for the ryokan - we are hoping to hop off the bullet train somewhere and stay the night. In between Tokyo and Kyoto.

But the point of this post is the pros and cons of a larger hotel ryokan vs a smaller location.

These are the ones I’m looking at as of now

Speech therapy

Just found this funny myself, how fast his teacher jumped on this. I’m just glad it will improve now.

For the past 2 years my husband and I agreed our son would speech. He slips on letters and says the wrong letter. Peds told us to wait until he started kindergarten.

Well yesterday was his first day and four hours in we get a message that the teacher wants to have him evaluated. I see the message and just scream “KNEW IT” and my husbands thought was “damn that was fast”

Now we get to wait and see what happens and how long it will take. I’m sad cause I love his little voice and don’t want it to change but at the same time I can’t be made he won’t say fuck instead of truck.

How’s adventure of the seas these days?

We are booked in a couple of weeks and haven’t been on this ship since our honeymoon 9+ years ago. We have been on star and utopia recently and are expecting to be let down. But we are going with friends that have never cruised so we thought it would be a good mid level ship for their first time without splurging on all the bells and whistles.

5 kids 4-12 are going and 6 adults. Honestly I’m more hoping they enjoy it. We have star and Utopia booked within the next year and we remember the ship well (although we did forget it had water slides)

Boarding times

Friend is sailing utopia of the seas this weekend and is worried they will turn her away if she comes early. I have sailed many times out of Port Canaveral and have always boarded at 10:30. I just wanna see what others experiences are.

What can my friends eat at the buffet?

So my friend who has never sailed is:

Gluten free, vegetarian, allergic to shellfish, banana, cashew, and a bunch of raw fruits/carrots.

Her daughter is allergic to tomato and fish. Thankfully they are her only restrictions.

Who could’ve guessed?

3 year old: mommy, daddy…do you know mark’s name?
Me: nope
Daddy: is it mark?
3 year old: 😱 yes! You do know his name! 😆

*immediately ends the conversation*

Travel agent

I’m looking for a travel agent I can sit down with and plan a trip to Japan. I want to be able to meet with them and I want them to specifically work on Asian locations.

Looking at our first Asia cruise

My husband and I are debating booking a Japan, china and Korea cruise for our 10 year anniversary. Tell me anything good or bad about this idea. It’s a 10 night. We have done a bunch of Caribbean cruises but never something this large or cultural. All get tipsy and have fun, beach cruises.

We could also fly and do Japan only but the other countries are enticing even while only day trips.

My thoughts: port hole is all I really need for this. We have never been big balcony users however we’ve always gotten them to dry our bathing suits and just give us a little more space with our kids. But we can probably survive without the balcony.

I’d like to fly in the weekend before. It’s 25 hours of travel time, roughly. And I know jet lag is a real thing. Give me a few days to explore Tokyo before the trip.

I would also like to fly home the night it ends so that we don’t have to unpack into a hotel

This will probably be a once in a lifetime trip for me

His thoughts: we don’t need more than a day before the cruise.

We have a very flexible budget within reason trying to keep the trip under $12,000 total. But has the mindset it is what it is as long as we are trying to be reasonable.

Hey ladies, where to buy good bikinis that are at least a hair modest?

I’m a 36 year old mom and we have multiple cruises coming up and I want some coverage but still want to feel good. Everything I ordered online I hate.

Where are some good beach shops? Open to Jacksonville too
