Reddit hiring experiment: 99% Bullshit comments. 3 people who restored a little faith. I’m still here all day. My story

I posted about my startup and the roles I was hiring for last month

What I got back was… a lot.

Vague one-liners. Non-responses. Hatred. Defamatory comments. People just talking shit for the sake of it. The classic Reddit special: zero seriousness, maximum attitude.

I’m not new to building things. I’m an entrepreneur. I expected some noise. I didn’t expect 99% of it to feel like that.

And yet.

Out of all that dust, three people showed up who were actually real.

Two senior-level folks, both with more than ten years of experience. One junior guy with an insane amount of pure passion.

That’s it. Three.

I’m not going to pretend this platform is some pure talent goldmine. It’s messy. It’s often dumb. People hide behind anonymity and say whatever feels good in the moment. A lot of it is just noise.

But those three existed. They were serious. They engaged like humans who actually care about building something.

So here’s where I’m at:

I still think Reddit can work for finding people if you’re willing to dig through the garbage. I’m not done with it. I’m here all day. Happy to talk to anyone who’s serious — founders, operators, people looking for roles, people who’ve had the same weird experience hiring (or getting hired) here.

Has anyone else tried hiring through Reddit and gotten this exact mix of pure chaos + a few diamonds?

Or is this just what the platform is now?

Drop your stories. I’m reading everything.

I built a dating app that only lets in Google/Amazon/TCS employees etc. The app is DONE. The only thing missing is someone crazy enough to sell it. Founding member → cofounder, if you've got the guts

Alright, plot twist. The app is actually built. Not "coming soon," not "in beta," built. Verified-employer-only dating app, Hyderabad first, real screens, real backend, real everything.

What I don't have is a partner-in-crime for the sales and marketing side — someone who can take this thing from "cool app my friend built" to "wait, EVERYONE'S talking about this app."

Here's the deal: you come in as a founding member. If you're actually as good as you think you are — and you prove it — this becomes a cofounder conversation, with equity to match. I'm not looking for a employee. I'm looking for someone who wants to build something from the ground floor and is hungry enough to make noise.

Who I want:

  • Anyone who's obsessed with growth, virality, community, or storytelling — doesn't matter if it's from a startup, an agency, or your own Instagram page that blew up once
  • Freshers 100% welcome — I care more about hustle and instinct than a resume
  • Bonus points if you've ever gone viral, built a following from scratch, or talked your way into something you weren't "qualified" for

What this isn't: a safe 9-to-5. What this is: the chance to actually build something and own a piece of it.

Be kind, unbiased — we are seriously trying to build something 🙏

If you're DMing me, make it count:

Don't just send "Hi" or "Interested" — I won't be able to tell you apart from a bot. Instead, include:

  1. Your name and what you currently do (student, job, freelance, whatever)
  2. One sentence on why sales/marketing/growth is your thing, even if you've never had the title
  3. One link — Instagram, LinkedIn, a project, anything that shows you've actually done something, even small

No link, no name, no context = no reply. Not being harsh, just don't have the bandwidth to decode "hey" fifty times a day.

Update : 1L views later, made a hire, and I'm doing this again this weekend; No resume round. Just show up at 7 AM and walk with me. Hiring for an early AI startup (Hyderabad)

Told you this wasn't a gimmick. First post hit 1L+ views and somewhere in that chaos I found a senior engineer who's now genuinely one of the most passionate people on the team. Proof this thing actually works, not just a fun Reddit experiment.

Doing round two — this time open to freshers across roles, and I'm raising the bar a little.

Show me one real thing you've built. A project, a hack, something half-finished you're weirdly proud of. That's it. I don't care about your CGPA or your college name, I care what you've actually made with your hands.

Hiring for:

  • AI/ML
  • Full-stack (Python/React)
  • Business/ops / Sales and marketing
  • Content

Same format: 7 AM, green space or park near Hitech City, public, small group, no resume, no deck, no "tell me about yourself." Just walk and talk like two people, not an interviewer and a candidate.

I'm meeting people tomorrow and day after — so if this is you, don't overthink it, just reach out.

Honest heads up: I genuinely can't meet everyone who reaches out, there's only so many hours and one of me. If I don't get back fast, it's not a no, it's just me being one guy drowning in DMs — sorry in advance, and thank you for understanding.

DM only this round (comments got unmanageable last time). Please include:

  • Your name
  • What you studied
  • A short line on a project you've built
  • Which role you're into
  • And be kind in the DM — this goes both ways.

Same location as before. Let's go 👇

I got so burned out on dating apps I'm literally building my own — tell me your WORST dating app story 💀

Not gonna lie, the last straw for me was a mix of getting ghosted after 6 months of daily texting, matching with someone who turned out to be running their ex's account, and once getting asked to Venmo a "verification fee" (yes, really).

I've been swiping on and off for 3 years and somewhere along the way I got so tired of the whole thing that I actually started building my own dating app. Before I get too deep into that, I want to hear from you first — what's the worst, most unhinged, or just plain draining thing that's ever happened to you on a dating app? Doesn't have to be a big dramatic story — even "this app just wore me down" counts.

CALL TO ACTION

Keep it kind: genuinely open to blunt, unbiased opinions — just not hate, spam, or non-serious comments. I'm reading every single one 🙏

No resume round. Just show up at 7 AM and walk with me. Hiring for an early AI startup (Hyderabad).

Tired of hiring the normal way, so I'm trying something else.

I run a small, funded AI startup in Hyderabad. Instead of another Zoom call where you recite your resume and I nod, let's just walk. 7 AM, somewhere green near Hitech City, small group, public space. No resume needed to show up — just come as you are.

What we're building: AI that sits inside a team's Slack/Teams and notices when work is quietly falling apart — before it turns into a missed deadline or someone checking out. Pre-seed funded, small team, based at T-Hub.

Hiring for:

AI/ML

Full-stack (Python/React)

Business/ops

Content

Freshers, career-switchers, anyone — genuinely don't care about your CGPA or pedigree. If you've built something, even half-broken, I want to hear about it. Come as you are, all backgrounds welcome, women especially — our team's better with more perspectives in the room.

Drop a comment with what you're into + one thing you've made. I'll send you a walk slot. No deck, no dress code, no "tell me about yourself." Just walk and talk. If it clicks, next step is a real work trial, not round 6 of interviews.
