Best movie theater popcorn in LA?

I think the New Beverly hands down has the best movie theater popcorn around. It’s popped to perfection, and they have real butter. Not only that, the staff “layers” the popcorn and butter by filling the bag 1/3 of the way with popcorn, then adding butter before adding more popcorn and so on. This way the butter doesn’t all just sit on the top. It’s the best in town. Salt packets available by request

But also shoutout to The Egyptian for also having real butter, and they pop their corn in coconut oil. Salt shakers at the register. But for traditional movie theater popcorn taste the New Bev wins.

Another shoutout to Vidiots for having a vegan option. Their soy concoction is actually pretty damn tasty and self serve, and they also have a great seasonings bar with a ton of flavors you can add

Gus’s is my pregame meal for Popeye

Going to see the Popeye tonight with the boys at Los Feliz 3. I was planning to eat Popeyes before but I’ve been craving Gus’s after the episode… so I’m doing this. Gus’s is so good, and still crispy after 40 mins DoorDash to mouth.

How did I do on my 3rd visit to Del Taco?

I admittedly was a Del Taco sceptic. As an east coast transplant to LA I questioned the existence of Del Taco when there is both real Mexican and Taco Bell in LA. I previously had gotten a chicken ranch burrito, Del taco and Double burger. I loved the burger but was unimpressed by the burrito and taco.

After expressing these thoughts on Reddit, I went to Del Taco for the third time and got other menu recommendations and ordered the following:

Jack chicken quesadilla
Fish taco
Grilled chicken taco
Carnitas burrito (add guacamole)
Loaded fries

I am now on board with Del Taco as its own fast food option that is different from Taco Bell. The standouts for me were the quesadilla and fish taco. Any other menu items I should explore? I will be going back

The Heavy Wing

I love anytime John is on vocals. Listening to The Heavy Wing this time around on an Unlimited Love run, it really struck me how the chorus could be a chorus straight out of a Frusciante solo project, but just bursting around it is the rest of a chili pepper song. Knowing how much he brings to the guys and how ti all gets wrapped up in a realized song… I live moments like this when he can really belt it out. Anyone else have a favorite John vocal or just John love? Stadium Arcadian has so much of John on vocals

Streak within an album

I didn’t have time to get into a whole album so I was looking for a streak of songs to listen to. I landed on Unlimited Love, tracks 8-13, She’s a Lover - One Way Traffic.

It got me thinking about streaks of songs within an album. Has anyone down this of does anyone have any 3-5 songs in a row that come to mind?

Is Mandy the quintessential Nick Cage freak out performance?

I love Nick Cage. I love horror. I recently rewatched Mandy.

In addition to it being a gorgeously dark, I feel like Mandy is the one film where the tone of the film pairs perfectly with the classic Nick Cage over the top scene.

How do people feel about Del Taco?

I am a recent transplant from the east coast so I didn’t grow up with Del Taco. I appreciate Taco Bell as a fast food indulgence that is different from authentic Mexican food. But where does Del Taco’s role stand with people?

I’ve had it twice. The first time I got a burrito and fries and found it bland and uninspiring. The second time I tried a double Del burger and I liked it in a distinctly trashy way. The grilled buttered bun was a nice touch and it was cheap.

So what’s the deal with Del Taco? Other than the burger what is it doing that Taco Bell doesn’t do better?
