Does anyone know what Beit Din the Conservative and Reform movement use in LA area?
What are the official Beit Dins of both movements? If you converting Reform or Conservative, what Beit Din did you attend?

I’m in the process of becoming Jewish (through the Reform movement), I did this circumcision to be recognized by the Conservative movement. (I also did it for the cultural value of being a future Jewish man) since I know it’s not required by the American reform movement.
I was uncircumcised until I recently underwent medical circumcision (not by a mohel).
I actually need it for medical reasons (phimosis) - due to my phimosis - the doctor told me he might leave some skin on, but he couldn’t give me a definitive answer until he was under the operating table.
I told him if he was going to perform a full circumcision and he reassured me that my cut would be considered a full one. I think he has confused as to what I meant by “excess foreskin.”
What cut/technique would constitute a complete kosher adult circumcision performed by a medical doctor? I have bandages right now, with the swelling I can’t tell, I’m afraid I’ll need a revision. Head looks pretty much exposed. Just some skin under it. Maybe I’m overthinking.
A mohel was not really a reality for me given my location and insurance. A revision seems far off, but then again conservative opinion does matter.
I’m beginning to complete my first month of starting Prozac, currently at my 30 day mark. I’m beginning with 10mg.
I used to feel very energetic throughout the day, I would sleep quite a lot. Now, I’m waking up fairly early, my eyes are dry and sleepy. Feeling very fatigued. Confused as to why these symptoms are starting at the end of the month instead of the beginning.
I’m wondering if there was a difference in getting your steps in walking outside, doing walks in longer intervals vs just pacing around the house at random intervals?
It’s summer where I live, so I usually walk around the mall to get my steps in. I’ve been pacing or walking around the house, I just set a timer on.
Is there a difference in terms of the numbers/calories burned? Anyone have personal experience with this?
I am finishing up my conversion process. I am converting Reform but I want my conversion to be valid by the Conservative movement.
Although my Reform rabbi does not require circumcision, he highly recommends it. Also, my Shul hosts conservative services once a month and I really really want to be able to fully participate and have my conversion be valid by the Conservative movement.
I would convert Conservative, but the only congregation in my area is Reform. However, I would like to visit Conservative Shuls and be able to be part of their services.
I am uncircumcised, and I have my circumcision scheduled in a few weeks.
I met with my urologist and he told me while I’ll be getting fully circumcised he’ll have to leave some foreskin on in order for me to be able to have an erection. If he cuts too much, I won’t be able to have one. He told me my foreskin was very tight and too long. That it would have been different if I was a newborn (the way my penis grew with the foreskin). Etc… medical stuff I can’t explain..
He told me he determines this once I’m in the surgery room right then and there, with the right equipment.
What concerns me is him leaving enough foreskin around the glands and having my circumcision not be kosher.
I explained this to him, and he told me he’ll do what’s best for me in order to help my parts function properly.
I’m concerned a Conservative mohel might not do the hatafat dam brit if the urologist left enough skin.
There’s also the psychological mentality that my circumcision would never make me Jewish enough.
Am I overthinking this?
I’m on day 8 of starting my medication (10mg). Doctor suggested I take it in the mornings since it is an activating medicine. Whenever I do take it, I feel very fatigued and tired. Usually later on at night or in the late afternoons I have this surge of energy, I feel as if I was caffeinated.
I used to take it when I would wake up but now I take it after my workouts since it makes me tired.
Is this normal?
I’m not having any side effects, except ocasional abdominal pain, and I think constipation.
I’ve been feeling sad recently, and I occasionally sigh. But I don’t identify with it, I just let the feelings happen.
It’s been two months since I’ve been eating normally with substantial calories. I was never underweight, just severely restricting to the point my body began to shut off. For reference, I’m a male.
I’m noticing more frequent bowel movements these last three weeks, my libido is slowly coming back in the past two weeks. I get more romantic dreams (not sexual though) and I sometimes feel a tingly sexual feeling but not strong enough. Lately I’ve been feeling very very sleepy at times. I used to feel fatigued with headaches these last two days but now it’s mostly sleepiness. There’s also an increase in food noise and appetite.
What is happening? I’m I going the right direction? Doctor diagnosed me with Ana
Hello! I'm not sure if I am doing this right, but I have connected my Apple Watch to my Cronometer app. It automatically inputs my workouts and the total calories that I burned. This changes my daily expenditure calories, right?
My question is, do I select sedentary for my activity level and then go with my expenditure calories and not the actual activity level calories (calories as a sedentary person)?
My goal is not weight loss, my goal is to maintain my current weight (130 Ibs, male, 28, 5'8").
I do workout, and I'm not sure to select "lightly active" for my activity level or sedentary and go with the deficit calories it gives me (includes calories burned with workouts). Or do I just go with the lightly active basline calories and ignore the new calories when the workouts are added? Do I ignore the calories when the workouts are added? Need help deciding my caloric intake.
Hopefully this makes sense!
I’ve been on a weight loss journey for about 4 years now. I started at 269 lbs and I currently weight 129 lbs (28M, 5’8”). My goal now is to maintain my weight around 130, but I’m still trying to figure out what my actual maintenance calories and activity level are.
Most online calculators put me around 1,840 calories/day, but I’ve heard those can overestimate, so I’m a little nervous about accidentally gaining weight back if I do eat that much.
I lost most of the weight through calorie tracking and a BIG deficit, with light treadmill walking. Nothing intense — mostly steady-paced walking. Unfortunately, I also lost some muscle along the way.
Since I have reached the end of my weight loss journey, I now want to maintain my current weight. I don’t want to live a completely sedentary lifestyle. I still want to be active.
What worries me is I have an office job, I mostly sit on my desk for a few hours, and I have tried moving around now as much as I can. I do not want to be sedentary.
I have been reaching around 10,000 steps a day, moving around a total of 5 miles (according to my apple watch).
Because I do not move as much at work, I do reach my 10,000 steps a day goal by walking 2 miles on the treadmill everyday. It takes me around 45 minutes to complete 2 miles. Easy paced.
What worries me is will 10,000 steps of daily movement be enough for me to be active and not sedentary? Especially for my weight and height (28m, 130, 5'8"), I feel that walking 2 miles, easy paced on the treadmill is not enough for me to be active, I feel that it would be considered too easy for me. 2 miles on the treadmill, easy paced would still make me sedentary.
Since reaching my 10,000 steps a day goal, I have noticed that my lower back has been sore, and my tummy fat has gotten smaller, despite not losing actual fat, I guess it has toned my lower belly (if that is even possible).
What are your thoughts?
