Ubiquiti Wave Nano Mounting Advice

I am going to be installed a wave nano bridge between our HQ and a new building we are leasing about 700 feet away. I have line of sight, and I already tested the connection with mounting one dish to a ladder on the side of our HQ, and the other close to the spot where I will be installing the other dish, and everything worked.

I mounted security cameras, but this is a first for something this large and something that needs to stay inline.

I wanted to see if anyone has any advice on installing these. Both will be mounted to the side of the building. HQ has metal sheet siding, and the new building is cinder block. I was thinking of using J mounts to mount both, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I am open to them.

Used Meraki Equipment License Question

We are leasing a new warehouse for our company. The previous company left all their Meraki switches and WAPs. The property manager said since they left it, we can have it.

I used Meraki in the past, but it has been over 5 years since I used Meraki.

I created a new Meraki account, and I was able to claim all the switches, firewall, and two spare APs that were in the network closet.

I am assuming since I was able to claim the equipment onto our account that the equipment is no longer registered to the pervious company's account.

Is it as simple as get licenses for the hardware and I am set, or am I missing something else?

I know I still need to check the other WAPs, but I need to pull them down to get the serial numbers of the WAPs.

Cover Screen Question

I have a Flip5 and the wife has a Flip6. We did the upgrade to 8.5 One UI, but after that we lost the little widget thing in the lower left corner of the cover screen.

When the phone is locked I can see the score for my MLB team, or if I have pandora going I have basic controls there.

But when we unlock the cover screen that little widget thing goes away.

Prior to 8.5 when I unlocked the screen I could double tap on the widget thing if Pandora was running and it would open Pandora on the screen.

Or I could cycle between Pandora and the MLB score by swiping on the screen where the widget was.

How do I get this back on the cover screen when I unlock the screen.

Automate SSL Cert Renewal Options

Now that cert renewals expirations are growing shorter, I am going to start looking into automating our cert renewals.

But I wanted to see how people are handing it. Are there services out there that auto renew the certs.

My big three devices are a Kemp load balancer, our Palo Alto firewall, and a few IIS servers.

Does anyone have any recommendations

BNC to Ethernet Converter

I have a Hikvision NVR that has 19 BNC cameras hooked up to it. The power for the cameras are supplied by separate power supplies for the cameras.

The NVR is old and slowly dying.

The long term fix is later this year we are replacing the whole system when the building is remodeled. All our other locations are standardized on Speco. All the cameras will be replaced with Speco IP based cameras later on this year.

But in the short term I need to keep the current camera system active.

I am thinking of getting the Speco NVR now, but I need a way to connect the current cameras using BNC to the new NVR. Is there a converter that can take the BNC and then convert that over to ONVIF.

I would like each camera to be its own channel on the new NVR.

Teams Phone Ringing Device

I have multiple locations that have warehouses. I am looking for a device that can broadcast a sound when the phones are ringing.

I would prefer the device to be a standalone device that can just run off a PoE network connection.

But if there is something that can tie into a PA system I could make that work as well.

2011 Electric Steering Replacement Question

My steering rack on my 2011 GT V6 is slowly dying. It sounds like a grinder when I turn the wheel. I have the electric steering rack system.

Doing the actual replacement looks pretty straight forward. But when Googling there seems to be mixed feedback as to the programming.

Some are saying a dealership needs to do the programming of the replacement rack to the computer. Other are saying you can do it yourself with software called FORSCAN. Some are saying you don't need to reprogram at all.

So what is the truth, is the install as simple and plug and play, or does it need to be programmed. If it does can I do it myself?

Point to Point Wireless Bridge

We are looking to get an additional warehouse down the screen. From our HQ to our warehouse is about 1800ft.

Instead of bringing in a separate DIA fiber circuit to the warehouse I was thinking of doing a point to point wireless bridge to connect the warehouse to our HQ. The warehouse will only have a few PCs, printers and some WAPs for our warehouse RF guns.

The hard part is I might not have a direct line of sight to the warehouse because there is another building in the way.

Our current HQ is about 20ft tall, the building in between is 20ft and so is the warehouse. I was planning on just mounting the antennas on the side of the building, but I won't have a direct line of sight.

If I mount the antennas to the roof of both buildings, I should be able to get line of sight.

By mounting to the building, I can handle that and do the install in house, If I have to roof mount it then I am going to contract that out.

+---------------------+ +-------------+ | | | | | | O| HQ | | | | | | | | | +---------------------+ +-------------+

  O

+------------------------------+ | | | Warehouse | | | | | +------------------------------+

The Os are the rough antenna placement. I also can't place the antennas at the corners of the buildings. The buildings have multiple units.

But given the distance how critical is it to have a line of sight from one antenna to the other?

Then any recommendations on a Point to Point setup? I was looking at the different options Ubiquiti has.

PowerBI Licensing Question

Our data analyst has started making some dashboard and reports in PowerBI. Our data analyst has a PowerBI Premium license. We are publishing reports to a PowerBI app but when users with free PowerBI try to access the reports from the app they get a prompt they need a PowerBI Premium license.

I talked to our CSP who said a PowerBI Premium user can publish reports to free PowerBI users. But that does not seem to be the case, and they seem to be rolling back on their initial answer.

I did some more digging and it looks like there are two ways. One is license everyone who needs access to the report, and or buy capacity.

If I look at the capacity pricing for PowerBI it is crazy expensive. I looked at the Fabric capacity pricing and the lower SKUs like F2 and F4 are reasonable and are slightly less expensive than buying everyone a license. But looking at the Fabric capacity it says only a F64 and higher can have the free users access the reports.

Am I missing something? Is the best/cheapest way to just buy the users PowerBI Premium licenses. I am only talking about 16 users. Or is there some other way to share the reports to users and not need a license or buy capacity?

We are also looking to see if we can use the PowerBI Pro licenses.

Meraki vs Aruba vs Extreme vs Meter

We are looking to do a network overhaul in 2027, but wanted to do a few POC sites this year. Currently I have 13 locations, and we are right now an Aruba shop. Almost all my switches are in Central, but all our WAPs are in Central. Most of our switches are old, running the older AOS-S firmware, our HQ has newer switches running AOS-CX which is better in Central for mgmt and monitoring.

The big reason while we are evaluating is we don't like the new Central UI.

Our 13 locations have a L2 P2P back to HQ and everything is routed thought our firewalls. At all our locations I only need a simple L2 switch with POE+ and 48 ports. But in the near future we might do SD-WAN at all our locations.

At my last place we were a Meraki shop so I am use to Meraki but it has been over 5 years since I used Meraki.

Some of my friends have recommended I look into Extreme as well, and we saw Meter at MS Ignite.

I looked into Meter and talked to their sales team, while I like the concept the price is crazy.

But I wanted to get feedback from others, about the good, bad, and ugly of each platform.
