Year 27 started on Monday. Go back through my previous posts here. Especially if you’re a new(ish) teacher. There might be a few things there that you might find useful. Or you might think I’m full of shit. Whatever. Anywho. I’ve decided that this year I’m going to be all business. I’m going to work, put on the show from 8:40-4:10, and go home. I’m not going to wake kids up that fall asleep or contact parents if a kid is failing. Only in the event of behavior being truly atrocious am I going to bother to reach out to a parent.
To the new teachers, I offer this advice:
You need to have separation between work and not work. Mr. Zilla is a character I play at work from 8:40am-4:10pm. Outside of that, I’m Jewzilla, or to my closest friends just plain Zilla. I have a mononym. Like Cher. Or Madonna. Or Bono. Do not put your work email on your phone or check your email when you’re not at work. I learned that lesson the hard way after damn near having a breakdown. Seriously. New teachers, go through my old posts.

I’m looking to replace my car stereo. Please give me some recommendations for installers. It’s a pretty simple job, nothing over-the-top. Simple head unit swap.
I had an old Dell XPS 12 lying around. As you can see, the display was clearly shot. It’s a common problem with this model. I could not get rid of it. I love the form factor. I also love the form factor of the Commodore 64. There was my inspiration. I wanted to use it for a basic home appliance, possibly make it a Pi Hole or a home server later on. I put Mint on it with a William Gibson wallpaper. Shout out to the Godfather of Cyberpunk. Then I removed the display. For now, it’s going to sit in the hallway as a general use machine. I have plans to build a base for it, giving it a 1970s terminal vibe. That monitor will also be replaced with a touchscreen. The only real hiccup is that the WiFi antenna was routed through the bezel. So now it’s just the card on the board with no antenna. I had to move my mesh satellite right next to the base. It’s still only 85%. I’ve ordered a WiFi USB dongle to fix that. Coiled cables have also been ordered to lean into the cyberpunk vibe.
I’d like to replace the radio with a unit that also has Apple CarPlay and works with the backup camera. What would the collective you recommend?
I don’t know what’s going on, but the on ramp to the 408 eastbound from Good Homes Rd is full-on blocked right now.
I was upgrading Kali and got this screen. Any ideas on how to fix it? Or do I just reinstall Kali at this point?
Edit: When I go to restart the computer, it goes through the normal boot sequence and ends at this screen before it asks for a password.
So here’s the issue. I’ve got 2008 XL7. It won’t start on its own. I put the key in and nothing happens. No lights, no ac, no nothing. If I jump it off another vehicle, it starts and runs. But the moment I put it into gear or remove the jumper cables, the engine dies. Just before it died, the engine was surging while driving. I’m clueless as to the fix. Anyone got ideas I can check out?
