Can someone fill me in on the history of Kings Park Speedway?

I went to an event at Kings Park Speedway this weekend and, honestly, I left pretty disappointed with how the whole thing was operated. But before I completely judge it, I’d actually like to understand the history of the place and how things normally work there.
It’s 2026 and I was genuinely surprised to see tickets being checked against a binder of printed-off names, with everything seemingly being cash. It just felt incredibly dated and, from a business perspective, like they were leaving a lot of potential revenue on the table.
The crowds/logistics were probably my biggest concern. Huge lines for food, huge lines for bathrooms, bottlenecks everywhere, and tons of people packed along the fence trying to get a decent view. That creates obvious safety/security concerns and makes it harder for people to move around. You could barely find a good place to actually watch the races.
And I'm honestly curious what leaving the parking lot was like for everyone because even getting people in and out seemed pretty unorganized. With a sold-out or heavily attended event, I can't imagine the logistics of getting everyone out efficiently.
I’m not trying to shit on the speedway for the sake of it. Clearly there’s a history and a community around the place, and I’d like to understand that before being overly critical.
So for anyone who has been around Kings Park for years, what’s the history of the speedway? Who operates it? Has it always been this way operationally, or was this weekend unusual? What am I missing?
I’d genuinely like to hear from longtime fans, former staff/volunteers, or anyone who knows the background. Hopefully there’s some context behind it, and maybe some of these things can improve because the racing itself was pretty cool to experience.

Camper van road trip around Okinawa — worth it?

We’re planning a trip to Okinawa in May 2027 and are considering renting a camper van for part of the trip. The idea is to drive around, explore different beaches, and stay at different spots rather than being tied to one hotel.

Has anyone actually done this? I’d love to hear about your experience, especially:

• Which camper van company did you use?
• What was the van like and roughly what did it cost?
• Was it easy to find places to park/stay overnight?
• Were there any beaches or areas that were especially good for this?
• Anything you wish you had known before doing it?

We’re pretty comfortable with the idea of a road trip and are mainly wondering whether a camper van is actually a fun/practical way to explore Okinawa. Any recommendations or experiences would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

The Silver Brumby - anyone else watch this as a child?

Anyone else watch this as a child? I rented it from the library every single time it was available. I know there are different titled versions depending on where it was released. I love this movie so much. I can't wait to show it to my young horse girl nieces.

Dysart residents: What's life like in your community?

A family member of mine is considering moving to Dysart, and I'd like to help them make an informed decision.

They've spent most of their life living in a city, so moving to a small Saskatchewan town would be a big change. I'd love to hear from people who live in Dysart or know the community well.

What's day to day life like? What are the biggest pros and cons? How's the sense of community, local services, internet, schools, healthcare, and anything else you think a newcomer should know?

I'm looking for honest feedback, both good and bad, so they can go into the decision with realistic expectations. Thanks!

Men of Reddit - I'm curious if any men have been made aware of, either by someone else or self awareness, of this behaviour and how uncomfortable it makes women. Have you ever been the "Where's my hug?" guy?

Regina City Jamia Masjid extends survey hours after community response. Are you planning to attend?

I noticed that the Regina City Jamia Masjid has extended the hours for its community survey after saying many people couldn't make the original morning session.

The updated times are:

  • 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
  • NEW: 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Location:
Regina City Jamia Masjid
1910 McIntyre Street

Whether you're supportive, opposed, or just have questions about the project, this sounds like an opportunity for residents to provide feedback directly rather than relying on social media rumours or speculation.

I'm curious where people stand on this. Do you think enough information has been shared with the community? Are you planning to attend the survey?

Let's keep the discussion respectful and focused on facts and community impact.

Paddy Wagon Stickers MJ Sidewalk Days

Hey, Queen City. A co-worker mentioned this past weekend, the owner of the Paddy Wagon was in Moose Jaw during sidewalk days putting Paddy Wagon stickers all over other food trucks. Apparently, when asked to stop, he continued anyway. Has anyone else had any bad experiences with him? He portrays himself online as being very supportive of small local businesses, but from what my co-worker mentioned, he was quite rude when asked to stop. Also might just be a he said she said... Just curious if this is a case of a local business getting too big for its britches and stepping on the smaller guys trying to make it, or if this was just an isolated incident. Anyone make it out to Moose Jaw this weekend?

Honest discussion: should there be limits on police plane surveillance over residential areas?

New Regina drinking game: take a shot every time the police plane flies overhead.

Serious question though, if enough residents signed a petition, could it actually limit how often the plane is used over residential neighbourhoods?

Before anyone jumps in with “you must be hiding something,” no. I’m talking about the constant circling at random hours. Late at night, early mornings, weekends… it feels like there’s a Cessna doing cardio over the city 24/7. A bunch of people in my friend group have been complaining about it for the past year.

To be clear, I completely understand using it for actual emergencies:

  • missing kids
  • dangerous suspects
  • search and rescue
  • major incidents

Nobody’s arguing against that.

But if it’s mostly being used to hover over neighbourhoods farming traffic tickets and playing airborne hall monitor, maybe it’s getting a little excessive? At some point people just want to sit in their backyard without feeling like they’re in a low-budget surveillance documentary.

I’m genuinely curious where people stand on this:

  • Does the plane actually help enough to justify the noise?
  • Are there rules on when/how often it can fly?
  • Could residents realistically push for limits?
  • Or am I just becoming the old guy yelling at aircraft instead of clouds?

Interested to hear people’s thoughts.

Great Show, Terrible Service. Anyone Else Experience This?

Went to my first concert at the casino show lounge this weekend and I honestly could not believe how unbelievably terrible the bar service was. Calling it “bad” would be generous. It felt like the entire bar was staffed by people who hated being there and resented customers for existing.

At first I figured maybe it was just an off night, but after talking to friends and coworkers apparently this is just how the place operates all the time. If that’s true, I genuinely don’t understand how they haven’t been dragged harder for it.

The entire experience was embarrassing for a venue charging casino prices:

  • painfully slow service
  • zero drink menus or signage anywhere
  • no visible pricing
  • staff who didn’t know what they served or what anything cost
  • miserable, completely disengaged bartenders
  • filthy bar tops covered in soaked napkins and spilled drinks

You stand there forever trying to order while the staff act annoyed you’re even interrupting their conversation.

The only reason the night was salvageable was because the show itself was excellent. Geordie absolutely carried the entire experience. Without that, it would’ve been a complete waste of money.

Thanks for a great night out Geordie! Casino Regina....do better....
