Any good extracurriculars for me to do in undergrad to help me for dental school in the future?

What are some good extracurriculars?
I am in school clubs,
Gonna join Greek life
Gonna do research next summer
I am also gonna try to be eventually a Teacher assistant and try to get a dental assistant job it’s just been so hard!

I may try to get an internship if that helps. I am still doing shadowing hours and need to do volunteering.

For those who bartended in east Lansing bars how did you get hired?

For those of you who bartended at East Lansing bars, how did you get hired?
I have close to 2 years of bartending experience now, plus experience as a server, barback, busser, and food runner.

I’ve been applying and reaching out to places, but it honestly seems like a lot of them don’t really care about previous experience.
I’m curious how you got your foot in the door. Did you apply online, go in person, know someone, rush a fraternity/sorority, or start in another position first?
Also, honest question: do some of the East Lansing bars mainly hire girls for bartending positions,

Should I switch roommates ?

I transferred to Michigan State last semester and was new to campus. My dorm roommate was nice, but we weren’t that close, and honestly the dorms smelled bad and people were loud as hell.

Since I was new, I pushed myself to meet people. I went out to the bars, got out of my comfort zone, and met a lot of cool people.

Near the end of the semester, I met a guy who was going through a lot of the same things I was. We became friends pretty quickly and decided to room together in an apartment for the fall. The thing is, we had only known each other for a short time.

Now it’s summer, and we barely talk. We live pretty close to each other but never hang out, and our texts are pretty dry. It’s making me wonder if we were just school friends.

I’m planning on rushing a fraternity in the fall and will probably meet a lot more people. Should I stick with this roommate and see how it goes, or try to switch before the semester starts? Am I overthinking this?

Those who worked as a bartender at the bars in EL how did you get hired? Especially if you have bartending experience

For those of you who have worked as bartenders at the bars in East Lansing, how did you get hired?

I have bartending experience, along with experience as a food runner, busser, barback, server, and in customer service. I’m planning on applying to several bars in East Lansing and was wondering what the hiring process is usually like.

Did you apply online, go in person with a resume, know someone, or get hired through networking? How much does prior bartending experience matter compared to connections or being an MSU student?

Has anyone bartended at engine movie theaters?

Has anyone here been hired as a bartender at Emagine movie theaters before?

I recently got offered a “Bartender/Team Member” position, but I’m a little confused on how the role actually works. Do they start you as a regular team member first and then move you into bartending later, or are you doing both roles right away?

I’m trying to figure out if I’ll mainly be bartending, mainly doing team member duties, or just rotating between both depending on the shift. Because they never told me

If anyone has had this same position before at Emagine, how did it work for you

Is it bad if I failed Chemistry? I am gonna retake it

I am a shopmore in college and wanna pursue dentistry and I failed Gen chem 1 and it tanked my gpa but I’m gonna retake it in the fall. I’m a shopmore and will be a shopmore next year to cause of my credits and retaking Chemsitry. I basically have 3 years left of college.

I did Gen chem 1 and biology together that’s why it was very tough and even my academic advisor told me not to do both classes together and I did not listen.

I feel like I did not know how to study and it was my first in person semester of college in years after taking time off after highschool and doing online classes

How to get started as bartender

I’m currently in college in a big college town and I’ve been trying to get into bartending, especially at the downtown bars. I already have experience working at a fine dining steakhouse as a food runner, busser, and barback, so I’m not completely new to the restaurant environment.

The problem is it seems like a lot of the college bars mostly hire through connections, Greek life, or friend groups, and I just transferred to University and I am new even though a lot of the bartenders are only like 18–20 years old. I’ve applied to a bunch of places but it’s been harder than I expected to actually get my foot in the door.

I have a strong work ethic, learn fast, and genuinely want to get experience this summer so I can hopefully work at my college town bars in the fall.
Any advice on the best way to break into bartending in this situation? Should I focus on serving/barbacking first, smaller bars/restaurants, bartending school, networking, etc.?

For those that were Bartenders at AMC Theaters…

For people who bartended at AMC Theatres or movie theaters in general — after getting that experience, was it easier to get hired at other bars/restaurants later on?

Especially college town bars or higher-volume places. Did employers respect the experience, or did some places kind of look down on theater bartending compared to restaurant/bar experience?

already have some hospitality experience from fine dining/barbacking, just curious how transferable AMC bartending experience actually is long term.

For those who bartend at the downtown bars, how did you get started?

I’ve worked in fine dining as a busser/barback/food runner and spent almost 2 years at Rocket Mortgage, so I feel like I already have solid customer service experience.

Even then, it’s been tough getting hired as a bartender at the downtown college bars. One place even told me being in a fraternity helps.

How did most of you get into bartending around here — server/barback first, connections, or just timing? And is it actually worth it long term?
