What's up with Marsha's? Planning to go check it out

Saw some people saying the vibe was a lot different as of late, with more black women and just overall more friendly atmosphere. I wanted to see for myself. If they really have changed, I don't want to let a space like that just die. Opinions?

Why are you learning Arabic?

So, I haven't really started my Arabic journey, since I'm super focused on mastering French, but I find the language super beautiful and am interested in learning it someday. I don't really have a strong reason, so I was curious about y'all's "Why". Like, I'm a staunch Atheist, raised Christian (but interested in religion on a cultural/historical level), and I just find the language beautiful, and I like a lot of music in Arabic that I've heard (like Soapkills and Zeid Hamdan-- recommendations welcome!). I also find the Arabic speaking part of the world interesting, and would at least like to read some translations/French language works from the area.

So, why are you learning Arabic? What dialect are you learning, and why? How long have you been learning, and how far have you gotten? Do you have any Arabic language books to reccomend that have beeen translated into English or French? Especially interested in queer and feminist works.

B2 in French, what would I get out of the French major?

Hey, I consider myself fairly strong in French, and am hoping to start applying to universities in France and Switzerland this year. However, I have had a complex high school journey, and also have an associate's in Art and Design from CCP. My sister suggested that I get a bachelors in the U.S. then go to a Masters in France or Switzerland, which would likely be a lot easier to get into than trying to scramble together my high school and college transcripts which are... complicated.

My end goals are to:

  1. Master French, like really master it.

  2. Probably get a teaching degree so that I can have a steady job.

That being said, my main question is like. If I'm going into a French degree already at a B2, how will I do? What kind of classes will be available to me? And also, do y'all have any thoughts? Are any of y'all doing/have done the French program? Did you study abroad?

Thank you!

Looking for a printer for grandmother, Chromebook compatible

Hello, I'm looking for which printer would be best for my grandmother who uses a Chromebook. Something that won't pose too many difficulties for us. We do live together so I can help out, but I don't want anything that's going to give us too many problems. We need to be able to scan to computers and print. We don't print huge amounts, just like forms and stuff mainly. Rarely we will print large quantities of pages.

She wants to spend <$100, so she was looking at the XP-5200. Would this work well for our needs? Will it be compatible with the Chromebook?

I was also looking at the EcoTanks, particularly ET-2900 because we need scanning as well. Would this be worth it if we don't print large quantities?

Using 529 to study in Switzerland

I have a significant amount of money in a 529, but I'm not interested in studying in the U.S. at the moment. It's expensive, I want to study in French, and I also just want to explore the world a bit. Currently, I'm looking at Switzerland, since I have family friends there, though I am also open to studying in France if that's what works out. Now, I know a 529 cannot be used for most foreign universities without penalty. I am planning to study most likely linguistics, though my exact course of study is still up in the air. Any advice? Would you suggest using the funds anyway and just paying whatever the penalty is? In addition, to study in Switzerland I need to prove that I have enough money to study, would a 529 be acceptable proof? Taking any info, resources, suggestions.

Searching advice for 6 week stay in Neuchâtel

Bonjour ! I'm going to be in Neuchâtel for almost 6 weeks this summer. I'm flying into and out from Zurich, so I'll be taking the train. I am also hoping to travel by train around the area (to Lausanne, Geneva). If it's not too expensive or far, I'd also consider visiting France, but it's not a priority.

The GA monthly pass looks great, and I'm under 25 so it's less expensive. The issue is then what will I do about the additional 1 and a half weeks? I'll need to commute locally, and will need to get the train back to Zurich for my flight.

Suggestions, advice, resources all appreciated. If this would be more appropriate in a different subreddit, let me know.
