Francisco Lindor's return (calf) could boost Mets out of cellar
>Zack Short played 10 games for the Mets in 2024 and provided a feel-good story for Opening Day. The Kingston native is back with the Mets to fill in as a utility infielder until Francisco Lindor returns later this month.
>The Mets claimed Short off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on Monday, clearing roster space for him Tuesday by designating Vidal Brujan for assignment. It’s not a major move by any means, but it does give the team an infielder who can play multiple positions. They know what they’re getting in the 31-year-old Short.
>A product of Sacred Heart University, Short grew up watching the Mets almost daily. Like Brujan, the 31-year-old is a light-hitting infielder, though his glove may be a bit steadier and he has more speed on the basepaths. Short hit .167 with two RBI and seven walks for 23 games for the Detroit Tigers this season.
