Levo Gen 3 Expert or Gen 4 Comp Alloy. What would you pick?

2025 Levo Expert $5000
2026 Levo Comp Alloy $6750

Both new with warranty from bike shop.

What would you pick? I am at 210lb so the Expert suspension is convincing. I am somewhat concerned about the motor failures in gen 3, but local bike shop is happy to repair and says turn around is quick. I am at best a blue trail rider, and will mostly be using it on longer trail climbs and fire roads around California. I do want reasonable suspension in the case my skills improve.

A nice cappuccino

You know you did good when wife snaps a pic. I have been mostly making cortados for years so it was nice to have a bit more real estate to work with. Using Clover whole milk, Lucca m58, Eureka Zenith

Variegated feijoa

Grafted this up a few years ago. Was supposedly fruitless but seems to not be the case!

Try a rare fruit!

Some years ago I planted rare fruit trees at the office I work at in Goleta, at the same parking lot as M Special. This is a Eugenia Calycina, a native Brazilian fruit and its firing. Please try some if you’re in the area, but be kind, sample a few, and leave lots for others to also sample! It grows extremely well in our climate and is a beautiful tree so keep the seeds.

Sound deadening report

Day 1: sound deadened the trunk and tire well. BIG difference.

Day 2: sound deadened the front doors, reaching through the speaker hole sucked. A moderate improvement.

Day 3: sound deadened the rear doors. Surprisingly, this may have made a bigger difference than the front doors. I think because your head and ears are closer to the rears than the fronts.

Used Harmony Audio butyl rubber, a mid grade low cost option, and don’t regret it.

7 days of curing on Boarsciutto

I shot a very nice boar and am trying out my first charcuterie! The boar eat mostly acorns, citrus, and avocados so they have a nice flavor with no taint. The meat has a sort of floral flavor / gamey’ness that’s very agreeable normally. Hoping it works out! I am modifying a beverage fridge (glass door kind of thing) with a small inline fan, humidifier, dehumidifier, and inkbird controller. I have the hindquarter encased in salt, and the accumulated liquid soaked salt was replaced after 7 days, which I’ll continue doing once a week for 30 days. It’s a nice big leg, about 25-30lb. I’ve trimmed it as flat as possible on all sides, as I’ve read that’s very important. Going to wash with water, then wine, then brandy, then encase in lard, any other tips? I have also considered a mold culture protective layer

Haven't seen a lot of options in the 2025 long bed world. Anyone have recommendations or experiences?

Alibaba is looking kind of tempting being honest, there are lots of low opinions of the recent Leer and ARE shells builds I've seen posted. I have realized that a large number of "USA" brand aluminum shells are just rebranded Alibaba ones... It looks like I could get one delivered for around $800 for the shell, and $500-$700 for shipping. Damn sight better than $4000 for the same thing from one of the "US" company.

Central coast California. Two smaller hives are Carniolan packages from Mann Lake. Big hive in the back was a very generous sized swarm. I have another swarm not pictured in a hive I didn't take apart. I expect to capture some more swarms this year, and looks like I need to split the big hive sooner than later. The swarm shown here is easy to work, the other swarm is not so great. I had an anaphylactic episode years ago, so I go full suit and gloves, still continuing with beekeeping anyways (not super allergic, just got stung a bunch when I made a mistake).
