I got told the truth today about holding kids back.

I just got a student in my third-grade class that didn't go to second grade, but enrolled in second grade.

His mom requested he be enrolled in second grade, but because he had simply been enrolled, (not an attendee) that school, still got funding.

Dun. Dun. Dunn! I have been lied to by admin.

I was told: We can't hold them back because we can't have students in developmentally different ages interact with each other.

Truth: It's funding (duh). Texas only covers the cost of students until they are 18.

I guess I am late to the game (and I like to "ostrich head" myself).

I was really holding into hope that I was here to grow and inspire (gag. Tears for my ignorance). Reality hits like a kid not spacially aware, putting their arm through the sleeve of their sweater, on a collision course your face.

Time to make some cute designs for their data folders, so I can ignore the contrast of reality vs. my locus of control.

Say what you want about Ashia,

but her ability to eloquently and firmly put people in their place is amazing.

She relates to others, while conveying her feelings without losing her cool.

There are many aspects of her to dislike, but her communication skills are fantastic.

Awkward parents at Meet the Teacher Night

I am 42 and have been teaching for 20 years, and have never been talked to like this.

Parent: How many kids do you have?

Me: 15 in each class!

Parent: No, how many of your own kids do you have?

Me: None. So, I request that your child bring a water bottle to school.

Parent: Oh, you just need a good man to give you kids.

Me: Back to supplies..

Parent: You better have kids soon, because you're getting older.

Me:...um...I also need her to bring a pencil bag.

Scripted lessons

We are no longer lesson planning but using HMH into reading with fidelity. We will be using classcraft for our lessons. We no longer get to make anything ourselves. Who can give me advice on how to make these lessons interesting?

How are we transporting cakes without paying $300 for a box?

I have a big family and make some large cakes. Nonprofessional here (obviously). have been using Amazon boxes I cut up and reconfigure. Last week I used a clean laundry basket. Where are we buying reusable big cake boxes? I have tried the paper ones on Amazon, they aren't reusable or sturdy and still cost a lot.

It's mother's day..the moms are still the go-to parent.

On my list of 8 bajillion reasons to not have a kid: moms are the go-to parent. I went out to dinner for my MIL (not my idea). Babies and kids were crying all over. Who is comforting the kids? The mom. Always. Even on Mother's Day. The dads didn't even offer to help. (I wouldn't normally pay so much attention but, damn, these kids were all over the place and one almost ran into my weak FIL).
