Do some players only like there "own" Yu-gi-Oh?
Hello everyone,
As the title suggests: have you ever had opponents who don't actually seem to want to play Yu-Gi-Oh, but rather just want to play Solitaire (and no I dont mean combo-stuff :D) ?
Some background: last week I attended locals in a different town. I was playing pure Clown Crew (without Harmonia or Spark), and my opponent was on Sky Striker. At the beginning of the match, I told him that I've only been playing paper Yu-Gi-Oh for about 4–5 weeks and that I might need to ask about some Sky Striker card effects from time to time.
I won Game 1 because I had a strong opening hand, got to go first, and, without trying to sound arrogant, played pretty well. Throughout the entire first game, however, I proactively explained the effects of my own cards, including effects that I technically didn't have to explain. On two or three occasions, this led to my opponent wanting to take back actions he had already committed to. I allowed it because I wanted to keep things relaxed and figured he was probably still learning the deck and/or dont know anything about mine.
I also ended up winning Game 2. During that game, I spent about five minutes explaining the passive effect of Clown Crew Meteor. That in itself wasn't a problem. What became frustrating was that my opponent either couldn't understand or simply wouldn't accept the explanation during the first three attempts.
Again, throughout the game, I allowed him two or three times to take back activated cards or undo actions. I also had to repeatedly explain the effect of Clown Crew Flair, specifically that I could set one of his monsters face-down on the field, after I used flair as a tribute (his Raye). Eventually he understood and finally chained Raye's Quick Effect in response.
The game ultimately went to me because he never asked what the passive effect of my Clown Fusion monster on the field did. Because of that, I was able to attack his Rose in Defense Position with Biancavisco and deal enough damage to remove his remaining 2000 Life Points. This time I just refused to explain proactive, why I summoned this monster alongside biancavisco because in the end I also want to win.
After that, he completely lost his temper. He started talking about how unfair my deck was, how terrible it was, and so on (with a bit cursing).
I was honestly pretty baffled by the reaction. It left me with the impression that some players only want to play their own game and don't really want to interact with their opponent at all, let alone take the time to read and understand new cards or unfamiliar effects.
Has anyone else had experiences like this?
