Old and new cars alike

Why can’t we have the option to choose if we’re the one paying money?

Why is this mandatory and not a choice?

If the government is forcing cleaner E20/E85 fuels, why is Delhi-NCR still sticking to the rigid 15-year petrol car ban? [OC]

[OC] Why are we punishing responsible car owners instead of actual polluters?

With the mandatory rollout of E20 petrol across Delhi-NCR and the introduction of E85/flex-fuel technology, our fuel ecosystem is undeniably getting cleaner. The primary goal of these biofuels is to drastically cut greenhouse gases and tailpipe emissions.

Yet, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and local authorities continue to enforce a blanket, uncompromising 15-year ban on petrol vehicles.

Here is why this logic falls completely flat:

Emission vs. Age: A well-maintained 14-year-old car running on modern, cleaner E20 fuel can easily emit fewer pollutants than a poorly maintained 5-year-old vehicle. Why does the law ignore actual emission tests (PUC) and focus entirely on the calendar?

The Sustainability Paradox: Forcing citizens to scrap perfectly running, low-emission cars forces the manufacturing of brand-new vehicles. The heavy industrial carbon footprint required to make a new car completely cancels out the "environmental savings" of scrapping an old one.

Economic Strain on the Middle Class: Buying a car is a major lifetime investment for the middle class. Stripping away an asset based on an arbitrary timeline—without any option for a fitness extension—is an unfair financial penalty.

Two Different Indias: The rest of the country operates under a logical 20-year fitness-based policy. Why is Delhi-NCR the only region denied the basic right to prove a vehicle is roadworthy?

The Solution is Simple:
We need a Fitness-Based Rule. If a car passes strict fitness certificates and automated emission tests, it should be allowed on the road. Age is just a number; pollution is the actual enemy.

What do you guys think? Is it time for the authorities to update these rules to reflect the reality of cleaner modern fuels?
