Rant from volunteer of 10+ years

TLDR; I am burnt out and frankly I’m done and can’t wait for it to be over. Anyways for anyone who quit volunteering, what other activities did you do to keep yourself sane? Located in Australia.

So I volunteer for an international organisation which I have done over the course of 10 years. In the early days, I really enjoyed it - it was mostly local activities with some leadership promotions. However, I had someone who to cut a long story short, is not someone who should be around young people and as a result I’ve had symptoms of PTSD. I did try to whistleblow at the time but in the end, I guess I was the one who was causing the hassle.

Fortunately, I was able to move onto other youth activities in the organisation not relating to the local activities. I really enjoyed those youth activities and don’t regret doing it. However, I’m currently part of a youth club where I am on the board, which includes my partner. I was president for 18 months but had to take a step back as it’s significantly affecting my mental health.

We are probably going announce next week that it will be closed due to lack of members and people willing to put their hand up for leadership positions. I know at least 1 member and our sponsor club will be pissed off about that but frankly we can’t take the criticism and the crap anymore. The lack of communication and action from some of the other volunteers is shit. And the leadership above our club is also shit too…pretending that they care about us when in reality their actions has shown they don’t.

We are currently supposed to have a trivia night held next week which we were forced to do with limited time but there are no rsvps so will probably cancel that and close the club as we don’t see the point.

It’s frustrating that other people want the club to work but aren’t prepared to really help my partner and I who are basically doing most of the work and have been since the start of last year.

Why are the greens hated so much?

Hi all. Hopefully this is the right place to ask.

Been trying to keep up with politics and just got me thinking - why do people hate the greens? From what I read, they seem to be doing good work in the political system. The only bad thing I’ve heard is that they blocked some environmental scheme back in 2008 and that they can sometimes be difficult to negotiate with. I’ve also heard allegedly that they have sided with the liberals more than Labor but I could be wrong there though.

CA MPE

Hi all! I’m currently in the process of planning my final year hopefully as a CA candidate as part of the MPE. I’m really struggling to come up with 2 goals for the next year. Does anyone know if it’s possible to use the same goals as the prior year? I feel like I can’t achieve goals in a lot of areas if that makes sense - I only do tax work. And unfortunately I probably can’t say something like “complete the CA program by this time next year”.

What are the best things that the 3 parties have achieved?

So I’m researching into my understands of Labor, Liberals and Greens parties. I’ve been trying to research as much as I can but sometimes it gets overwhelming. Out of morbid curiosity, what has been the best things that all of those 3 parties have actually achieved? Sorry if it’s a dumb question I’m still learning.

How do I make friends and maintain them?

Hi all! I have ASD, anxiety and depression.

Due to trauma that happened in my past, I lost heaps of friends. My partner and I also lost a few friends due to fights that happened while living with them at the time.

I struggle to put myself out there as a result of that trauma as I feel like something is wrong with me but idk what it is. I just feel like I lose friends easily. I do want to put myself out there but I’m afraid of losing people again.

But also a part of me just doesn’t want to go through the pain anymore. Sometimes it does get lonely, particularly if my partner is working at night. Long term, I dread that if I ever get married that I won’t have any friends to celebrate it with.

I do volunteer outside of my work but I’m not enjoying that currently and wishing to quit it (have been involved for 10 years).

I do have 3 friends but they are located 8 hours either north, south or west of where I’m located. My partner and I have a couple that are friends too that we catch up with occasionally but they will be relocating early next year.

Lease renewal

Hi all

I currently live in tweed heads here so not too far out from GC. I’m getting anxious about whether our lease will be renewed in mid September. I haven’t heard back as to whether it will be renewed or not. I understand that it’s a minimum of 60 days for either a rent increase notice or a notice to leave. Last time we got the notice 3 months prior to the lease expiring with a renewal (bearing in mind we were with a different agent).

I’m just wondering whether I should follow up or just let it go into a periodic agreement? Idk what will happen if it’s less than 60 days left on our current lease and we don’t hear back (apart from going into a periodic agreement).

My partner reckons to leave it but I disagree and getting really anxious about it and I can’t stop thinking about it.

How do I survive on my own? Tw sexual assault

I’ll try and keep this as short as I can to give a crumb of context

A few years ago, I was sexually and emotionally abused over a period of approx. 5 years. I told friends at the time about it. Unfortunately, it turns out that those friends did not believe me about my sexual assault and as a result, my mental health worsened.

I used to be able to easily network with lots of people in my hometown. Nowadays, I struggle to even talk to a small amount of people. A part of me does want to make friends. I have tried to do this in my current city but I struggle to contribute anything to conversations. With my past of losing people, I can’t go through that again. It gives me massive anxiety even at the thought of going to a social function…and when I do go to a function I always feel like an outsider.

So anyways, I’m just wondering how do I survive without friends? A lot of the time I get sad about not having friends but I have to find some way to protect myself from being rejected again. I do have my partner thankfully but obviously I can’t rely on him all the time.

Mould help (located in Australia)

Hi all! I have a couple of questions:

  1. On these curtains, there appears to be like 1 line of mould near the bottom. I’m not sure what has caused this but might be something to do with window condensation possibly. Is there anyway to get rid of the mould on the curtains or do I have to replace them? The curtains are 100% polyester if that helps and have attached the tag.

  2. The curtains appear to be in front of windows as attached. I googled causes of mould and might be window condensation. How do I get rid of window condensation?

Labor vs Greens

So currently, I’m trying to explore which left party to vote for and doing my research into the parties. I am definitely not voting for One Nation, LNP or any right-wing parties.

I feel like I get overwhelmed with deciding between which party aligns with me the most. Sometimes I lean towards Labor with its everyday worker type policies (like healthcare, education, etc) and being able to put bills through.

However, other times I lean towards Greens because of their advocacy towards renters rights and higher taxes on billionaires (just to give a few short examples).

Not sure if anyone’s in the same boat as me here but if anyone is, it would be great to get perspectives.

I have to vote in an election next year so this is particularly important.

ICAP exam (rant)

That exam was sooooo difficult imo. Aside from the very last question and part of the first question, I pretty much struggled and had a breakdown for most of it. On top of that I had extra time too and still struggled.

I’m really hoping that I pass…I can’t mentally do that exam again 😭😭😭

ICAP Critical File

Hi all! Just wondering if anyone is struggling to prepare a critical file for ICAP? There’s multiple subjects apparently being tested and I have no idea which topics are relevant. I don’t really have the time to read 4-5 study guides which are like 200+ pages each!

I have looked at 2 past exams so far and have tried to memorise as much as I can. Unfortunately I don’t have a very good memory though so will be aiming for a pass for this subject.
