Konec devadesátek a ∞ telefonní karty

No lidi si pomohli jak mohli.

No velká nostalgie. Asi ji dám do rámečku?

Pokud by vás zajímalo, jak to fungovalo, karta se strčila do automatu, ten zjistil kolik na ní je a umožnil volat. Kredit ubýval až na nulu, hovor skončil. Potom stačilo kartu vytáhnout a znovu do automatu vložit, a voila, zase plný kredit. Nějakou dobu to fungovalo (poměrně dlouho), ale pak se postupně automaty updatovaly a bylo čím dál těžší najít nějaký funkční, až už to nešlo. Ale byly to krásné časy 😁

Differences between stock and Crosspoint-based image processing

First of all, this post is not about devaluing the work of Crosspoint or Crosspoint forks developers! I have a deep respect for all the people involved in the development of these firmwares and so many great features, without which the X devices would not be so useful.

This post is just about showing the difference in image processing and rendering, especially for people considering reading comics on their X devices.

What I did was a comparison of some images and one comic book both on X3 and X4, either using Crossink or stock firmware. The comic book was converted here to xtch (2-bit greyscale):
The device without a text label uses the opposite firmware.

In the comparison, I’m using Crossink, which is the closest firmware to the original Crosspoint code base and which is also my preferred firmware. Julia does a great job maintaining the core Crosspoint code in her firmware. So I believe that the Crossink image processing is the same as in Crosspoint.

What I noticed was a lot of ghosting in the case of Crossink, especially noticeable on X4, which is equipped with a less advanced e-ink display. But generally, it’s visible on both devices with Crossink.
In the case of standalone images, they are noticeably darker, with visibly fewer available details. On the other hand, stock firmware uses noticeably stronger dithering. But images are much more detailed.

1Q84 and Japanese original

Hi folks, I’m curious, has anyone here read 1Q84 in Japanese? The reason I’m asking is that I’m currently reading the Czech translation and noticed that Fuka-Eri speaks weirdly.

I’m going to hide the next part to avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read 1Q84 yet.

>!Fuka-Eri is dyslexic, which causes her difficulties with reading and writing. However, in the Czech translation, she also speaks as if she were dyslexic. Her sentences have no punctuation, there are no question or exclamation marks and some words are grammatically incorrect. It’s a bit hard to describe exactly, but I hope you get the idea.!<

>!Now I’m really curious whether this is also the case in the original Japanese text, or if it’s something unique to the Czech translation. I know for sure that it’s not like this in the English translation by Jay Rubin.!<

US-related taxes for EU orders?

Hi folks,

I’m well aware of the upcoming EU taxes on aliexpress orders. What I don’t really understand is, why I’m seeing the US-related taxes for goods shipped from China to US, when I’m ordering from EU? This is what I see when I click question mark next to the “tax” text on the checkout page. And even weirder, the tax value changes. On Monday, it was over 11EUR, now it’s 3,71. Definitely better, than 11 something. But still…US taxes on EU delivered goods?

X3 usb-c to pogo adapter

I just received this piece of tech, which you might want as well. 😁 You can find it on AliExpress. It cost me **€2.**46 and works as expected—at least for charging. I haven’t tried the data transfer yet.

If you want to get one, just make sure it’s the 7.62 mm type. Get the 4-pin version if your device is unlocked; otherwise, the 2-pin version will do. The 4-pin version supports data transfer, but that feature is useless on locked devices.

Bought it here:

X4 ready for sunset

Beautiful sunset, and my X4 is always ready for action. What a great combo. I guess I’ll read a few more pages before getting into my sleeping bag, and I’m really curious to see what the dawn will be like.

IINE Gamebrick BT controller

Hi folk,

I just received IINE Gamebrick BT controller and it works fine with the stock fw.

Unfortunately, neither Crosspoint nor Crossink supports Bluetooth. I know there are some other forks, which actually support BT. But as of now, Crossink is the only custom fw I’m willing to use 🙂 I just hope BT will eventually make its way to Crosspoint and from there also to Crossink.

BTW, the nice bonus of Gamebrick is, that it’s usable also with other devices and you will get also a proper USB C data cable! 😁

Reading progress synchronisation between X devices

Hi folks, I’m currently waiting for the delivery of my second X device (X3), and I’m curious: how do you synchronize reading progress between X devices?

I’m aware of the KOReader sync feature in Crosspoint, but I assume it requires at least one device running a full installation of KOReader? Apart from my X4 and the X3 that will soon be delivered, I don’t own any other e-reader. So I assume I’d need to install KOReader on an Android phone, for example.

Too bad I’m an iPhone user 😁 But I guess I could get a cheap Android phone somewhere. Or is there a better way?

Reading progress synchronisation between X devices

Edited:
So, I found a workable solution using the Readest app for iOS devices.

Basically, I installed the Readest app on my iPhone and registered with the KOReader sync server through Readest. Then, I added the same credentials to my X4 running Crossink, and it worked like a charm. Nice!

So now all I need is the X3, and I can synchronize my reading progress across all devices accordingly. 🙂

BTW, u/Fun_Satisfaction2315, are there any plans for x device synchronisation in stock firmware?

Gamebrick as page turner?

Hi folks, does anyone use this aliexpress mini game controller as a page turner for x device? I know it’s primarily a game controller, but I believe that the keys are customizable?

X3/4 transparent book cover

Hi folks, this x3/x4 little feature is not very widely known or discussed. With the xteink companion app, you can create transparent book covers.

Once set, if you turn the device off while a book is open, the cover appears on top of the last-read page.

The cover maker is simple to use, magic wand erases unwanted parts with ease and you can instantly push the cover to the device. Of course, for all this you need to use the stock firmware. The only downside I found is, that currently it cannot be set per book.

As far as I remember, there should be only one missing piece. But it was well before the birth of my daughters, when I completed it last time. Now the girls are 15 and 17 and I’m curious if there are some more missing pieces?

Hi folks, does anyone know about the availability of frosted/matte glass for x4? I mean tempered glass, not foil.

I’m currently using clear tempered glass, which glares under sunny daylight conditions. So I would like to replace it with matte glass, if there is any. Thanks.
