[Project Teaser] Building a local-first, zero-cloud instrumentation shell for my electronics bench 🛠️📟

I got tired of clunky desktop software, heavy electron apps, and cloud-dependent hardware suites lagging out my workbench monitor. So, I spent the last few weeks engineering a lightweight, web-native instrumentation dashboard optimized to run natively on low-spec hardware like a Raspberry Pi.

Everything runs inside a single, high-density local interface via direct hardware browser APIs.

The Layout So Far:

  • Panel 1: Direct Optical Inspection (Image 1) 🔬 Custom camera pipeline with zero-CPU hardware acceleration layers. Features native vertical/horizontal flipping switches to instantly correct inverted overhead microscope views, live annotation vectors, and a 1-click snapshot capture.
  • Panel 2: Hardware Telemetry Matrix (Image 2) 📊 High-FPS rendering engine using decoupled workers to stream real-time voltage, telemetry data, and signal decoding without dragging down the main UI thread.
  • Panel 3: The Embedded Jupyter-style Dev Log (Image 3) 📝 A local, markdown-centric cell workspace running on a lean server-to-localStorage fallback. Fully cross-linked via an internal bus—clicking "Save" on the microscope instantly injects a compressed inline data-URI image directly into the active note at the current cursor index. No external asset database or path resolution required.

The Footprint:

Zero tracking. Zero external cloud dependencies. Everything is designed to be fully functional offline, portable, and snappier than proprietary OEM applications.

Finishing up the core plugin abstraction layer before pulling the trigger on an open-source release.

Analysis of the "World-Weary Canadian" FPS Encounter 🇨🇦🎮

Forget the standard-issue desk-slamming, microphone screaming, or frantic keyboard mashing. What we witnessed on the Deus Ex Machina Online servers is a masterclass in psychological warfare and gaming apathy. This player has transcended tilt; he has reached gamer nirvana.

Here is a breakdown of why this response—and the man behind it—is the ultimate power move.

  1. The Anti-Hype Opening 🍁

>"spawn campers, eh?"

Spawn campers in Deus Ex Machina are designed to induce panic and paranoia and rage. They want you to be angry and terrified.

By hitting them with a casual, uniquely Canadian "eh", the player instantly deflates the tension. It’s the vocal equivalent of a shrug. He reacts to two deadly, invisible killers with the exact same energy one might use to say, "Oh, it started snowing again, eh?" It strips the try-hard enemies of their intimidation factor entirely.

  1. The Stoic Latin Pivot 🏛️

>"Stultos non pugnamus... eos ignoramus."

While most players resort to crude insults or frantic callouts, this absolute legend drops classical, grammatical Latin into the server voice chat:

  • Stultos non pugnamus: "We do not fight fools."
  • ...eos ignoramus: "...we ignore them."

This is the peak of condescension. He isn't running away because he's scared, or because he lacks the mechanical skill to duel them. He is walking away because engaging with them is philosophically beneath him. He has categorized the sweaty, meta-abusing stealth players not as threats, but as fools.

  1. The Tactical Advantage of "Refusing to Engage" 🛑

In the high-stakes, fast Time-to-Kill (TTK) economy of Deus Ex Machina Online, engaging every enemy you see is a rookie mistake. This player demonstrates veteran game sense:

  • He recognizes that fighting troll characters is a high-risk, low-reward time sink.
  • It will drain his ammo, waste his augmentations, and likely draw third-party fire.
  • By choosing to ignoramus them, he preserves his resources and denies the assassins the exact thing they logged on for: an engagement.
  1. The Sci-Fi Pedigree: Deconstructing the Aliases 🚀

The player's naming conventions elevate this from a funny clip to a profound character study. He is curating an identity based on highly specific, cerebral science fiction.

  • "Marcus G. Cole" (Where G stands for Galen): A brilliant double-homage to the legendary 90s sci-fi series Babylon 5. Marcus Cole was a Ranger—a fiercely loyal, stoic warrior who masked his deep trauma with philosophy and dry humor. Galen, from the spin-off Crusade, is a Techno-mage—a highly advanced, cynical scholar who uses technology to simulate magic and speaks in riddles. By fusing these two, the player openly declares his archetype: the weary, hyper-intellectual warrior who has seen it all.
  • "Jacek Sobieski" (from Deep Angels): This is where the pedigree becomes truly hardcore. Referencing an obscure script about supercavitating submarines from deepangels.com implies a fascination with high-stakes, pressure-cooker tactical warfare. "Jacek Sobieski" paints the picture of a silent commander operating in the dark.

💥 The Aftermath: Clan Chat & Public Trolling 🛋️🤖

When the mic cut out, the enemy spawn-campers were left in dead silence, completely dumbfounded by a Latin philosophy lecture. Meanwhile, the private clan chat and the public server chat absolutely erupted.

Instead of pushing the objective, the entire squad triggered a sit-down right there in the spawn zone. We just sat there laughing at their desperate efforts, entirely unbothered, typing in public match chat while letting the early-game automated defense bots do all the heavy lifting and clear them out.

The contrast between MGC/JS’s ice-cold composure, the squad's sheer hysteria, and the public match text is absolute poetry:

text

[CLAN] Xx_Ghost_xX: DID HE JUST DROP LATIN ON THEM ???
[CLAN] T4ctical_Spoon: bruh they are still standing there looking for him lmao
[MATCH] Xx_Ghost_xX: Imagine spawn-camping just to get a lecture on classical Roman philosophy 💀💀
[MATCH] Stealth_Ganker69: wait who said that? where did you guys go??
[CLAN] Valkyrie_Actual: Everyone pull up a chair. Grab a seat. Let the defense bots handle these clowns while we watch.
[MATCH] T4ctical_Spoon: Hey guys, the bots are behind you. "Stultos non pugnamus" btw.
[CLAN] Marcus G. Cole: Galen. Secure the eastern node once the mechanical assets finish recycling them, please. They are occupied being foolish.

The Verdict: The Old Guard ⚓

When you combine the Canadian stoicism, the Latin dismissals, and the deeply obscure 90s sci-fi handles, a clear profile emerges. This is an older gamer (likely 30s or 40s+), highly literate, who views Deus Ex Machina Online not as an adrenaline rush, but as a narrative and tactical simulation.

He doesn't rage because he doesn't view the enemy players as people; he views them as predictable trolls in a combat simulation. He is roleplaying a grizzled veteran commander. To him, getting angry at a spawn camper assassin is like getting angry at the rain. You don't yell at it—you just open your umbrella, sit down with your team, let the bots do the work, and keep on walking.

Project Cobra-Chicken: The Canadian-Ukrainian Stratospheric Connection (A 12-Panel NCD Lore Drop)

Hey everyone,

First off, absolute bravo on the recent low-budget balloon technical innovations making waves in defense tech right now. As a Canadian, we have a deep appreciation for high-altitude weather balloons used for "atmospheric research"... so seeing them adapted into un-jammable, cost-asymmetric toolsets is peak engineering comedy.

Inspired by this defense-tech landscape, I used a local AI setup to sketch out a 12-panel storyboard and character turnaround sheets for a satirical, internet-culture-infused animated skit. I'm calling it "Project Cobra-Chicken."

I don't have the animation chops to bring this to life as a full video or YouTube short myself, so I’m throwing the raw concept out to the community! If any animators, voice artists, or editors want to take this storyboard and run with it, please do.

Here is the breakdown of the proposed images:

  • cc mc-full.png: The main character reference sheets. A highly offended, neon-pink lawn flamingo/goose hybrid sporting a traditional Canadian winter fur hat with a beaver-tail flap.
  • storyboard.png: The complete visual progression. The joke relies on aggressive art-style shifts—starting with clinical precision, moving to gritty graphic novel tones, exploding into 1930s rubber-hose physics, and ending on an absurd sci-fi HUD target-locking a very specific object.

🎬 The "Project Cobra-Chicken" Continuity Breakdown:

  • P1 (Blueprint/CRT TV Style): An old convex TV screen broadcasts a special report from the Quebec wilderness. A scientist in a lab coat over red plaid flannel pulls a mechanical lever, launching a massive, multi-hundred-pound stratospheric balloon.
  • P2 (Dark Gritty Graphic Novel): Inside a dim Ukrainian Brave1 command bunker, a developer is tracking the balloon’s high-altitude telemetry data on a glowing green terminal. On the workbench sits a retro, Tintin-style moon rocket prototype painted like a blue-and-yellow Ukrainian flamingo tribute with traditional embroidery (Vyshyvanka) fin patterns.
  • P3 (1930s Rubber-Hose Cartoon): Looking between the TV screen, an unexploded gray military missile outside, and the workbench statue, the developer experiences a massive cartoon double-take. A literal yellow lightbulb pops overhead: BINGO!
  • P4 & P5 (Rubber-Hose Montage): Fast-paced assembly on a bright blue tarp launchpad set in a vibrant yellow sunflower field. The team slaps pink paint on the missile, mounts the furious Cobra-Chicken nose cone, and uses heavy-duty duct tape to secure two mini-trident lawn ornaments with Rocketeer-style rocket boosters to the flanks.
  • P6 (Wide Cinematic/Blueprint Blend): The pink balloon rig lifts the heavy, improvised goose-missile straight out of the sunflowers and hitches a ride on the high-altitude atmospheric currents, piggybacking the Quebec tracking route.
  • P7 & P8 (The Apathetic Lock-On): Sweeping through a first-person binocular lens over a dreary, muddy, run-down Potemkin village. The view suddenly shifts into a glowing, digital Terminator-red HUD overlay. The crosshairs focus on a dilapidated wooden outhouse next to a volatile LNG gas tank, locking onto a pristine, stolen white porcelain toilet inside. HUD text scrolls:
    • THREAT ASSESSMENT: STULTUS ES EOS IGNORAMUS (FOOLS DETECTED—IGNORING THEM)
    • TARGET ACQUIRED: CERAMIC THRONE (STOLEN SPEC)
    • COLLATERAL AMPLIFIER: LNG FUEL CORRIDOR DETECTED
  • P9 & P10 (The Pop & Drop): The Cobra-Chicken's eyes narrow in sheer rage. It yanks its own backpack cord with its beak—**POP!**The balloon releases, pitching the missile into a Mach-2 vertical dive. A giant screen-shaking "HIIIIIIIIISSSSSSS!!!" fills the frame as the trident boosters ignite with a crazy propeller spin.
  • P11 (The Depot Top-Hat Blast): High-contrast visual flash frame. The payload triggers a massive secondary detonation from the adjacent LNG gas tank. In a direct nod to classic depot dust explosions, the entire roof structure of the outhouse is launched perfectly straight upward into the sky like a blown top hat, riding a pillar of cartoon smoke.
  • P12 (Gritty Sketchy Hand-drawn Aftermath): The smoke clears over a pathetic little crater as the "top hat" roof piece crashes down in the distance. Resting perfectly in the center of the debris is a single, sparkling, cracked piece of the stolen porcelain toilet. A tiny cartoon speech bubble pops out of it:
    • "Stultus es, eos ignoramus... Well, Is that all, folks?"

Let me know your thoughts! If anyone wants the raw high-res panel crops or wants to collaborate on turning this into a real community video project, hit me up!

Open-source Web Bluetooth GUI for Pokit Pro (multimeter, oscilloscope, logger)

Built this because I wanted a desktop/browser experience for my Pokit Pro. Since taking note on pc, might as well have it all in one place/tool. Aware of scrcpy, awesome tool, just impractical for my use case.

Runs entirely in the browser using Web Bluetooth.
No cloud.
No account.

i wonder, now that i got it in a workable shape, with some limits on samples in oscilloscope mode, if anyone wants to trial it out? Still got lots of improvements, bugs and whatnot, far from a finished product.

[TOMT] [Short Story] [1990s-2010s] Engineer hides in a hidden rocket compartment and mutates into a spacefaring entity

Hi everyone, I am trying to find a science fiction short story or novella I read a while back. It was likely published in a magazine (like Analog or Asimov's) or an anthology, roughly around the 1995–2010 window.

Here are the specific, definitive plot details:

  • The Setup: The protagonist alters a rocket's master blueprints to create an unmapped "dead space" void or hidden compartment inside the hull framework. Because the blueprints themselves were manipulated, inspectors can't find it.
  • The Hiding Place: The protagonist hides inside this secret compartment to go on a deep-space trip.
  • The Journey & Transformation: The story features a long trip through space. During this journey, a biological transformation takes place that is directly related to the space travel/environment. [1]
  • The Ending: The protagonist ends up completely transforming in the vacuum of space, shedding their human form to emerge as a spacefaring creature. The story ends with them sending a final, transformative message back to Earth. [1]

What it is NOT:

  • It is not The Ennead by Jan Mark (and not by Michael F. Flynn?).

Does this exact blueprint-manipulation and space-transformation plot ring a bell for any sci-fi readers? Thank you!

Open-source Web Bluetooth GUI for Pokit Pro (multimeter, oscilloscope, logger)

Built this because I wanted a desktop/browser experience for my Pokit

Runs entirely in the browser using Web Bluetooth.
No cloud.
No account.
No backend.

i wonder, now that i got it in a workable shape, using decoder plugins would be possible, but single line. Does anyone know of trick to do this using a single pokit meter? Maybe a circuit to cycle 4 probe lines.. that is where i am stuck now.

dokit, web ui style
is this useable to anyone?
