NAME THAT COCTEAUNE! - For Monday, July 6, 2026
THE RULES:
- I listen to a Cocteau Twins song
- I attempt to transcribe the lyrics WITHOUT ANY AID OF LINER NOTES OR LYRICS WEBSITES (foolish....I know)
- You reply with your guess as to what the song is.
- Multiple guesses are allowed! HOWEVER, if a multiple guesser gets the correct answer within the same minute as another Redditor who has yet to guess, the Redditor guessing the song on their first guess WINS. If multiple Redditors who have already lobbed guesses get the correct answer within the same minute time stamp on my notifications, the Redditor I'm notified of first wins.
- The winner gets….honestly…nothing. Except bragging rights, a celebratory GIF, and a link to the song of the day.
[NOTE: Any lyrics I perceive that either name a good portion of the song title or is just the song title in whole will be blocked out with *CENSORED*. Text shown in italics wrapped in parentheses are just my snarky asides, usually about my shitty hearing.]
Apologies for not posting a game on Friday. It was a holiday for me so I was lolligagging throughout the morning and I when I was primed to start a post, I had to deal with DEFCON 1 work shit. Hopefully, the same won't happen now.
*spins wheel*
ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
Nice! A total classic that everyone (I think) knows and loves. BUT WILL IT BE RECOGNIZABLE FROM THE SLOPPY TRANSCRIPTIONS OF A COMPLETE IMBECILE?!?! We shall see...
-------------------------------
(STARTING FROM 1:12 into the song)
Essen me
Domini
Essen Gudrun on in Jello-oh-oh-oh (I don't know what's going on with Domini and Gudrun in, I'm asssuming, a vat of Jello, but this sounds kinky. Have we intruded upon Liz watching gelatin wrestling videos?)
(second vocal track starting at the last OH)
Salama keys vanna scray-yuh vedden moko fee life
Essen me
Domini
Essen Gudrun on in Jello-oh-oh-oh
(second vocal track starting at the last OH)
Salama keys vanna scray-yuh vedden moko fee life
(CHORUS, starting in at around "moko" in previous line. Lotsa vocal multi-tracking wackyness going on. YAY! Technology!)
Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo hoo-hoo-hoo
Hee-hee-hee-hee hee-hee-hee hee-hee-hee hee-hee-hee hee
Hee-hee-hee-hee hee-hee-hee hee-hee-hee hee
Essen me
Domini
Essen Gudrun on in Jello-oh-oh-oh
Aye Yie!
And I will end this here when she's obviously exclaiming "AYE YIE!" because someone walked in on her. This should be so easy because EVERYONE knows this Cocteau Twins classic about watching Jello wrestling.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

The best thing about returning from a two week long vacation on the week preceding your home nation's birthday is that TODAY IS ALREADY THE END OF THE WORKWEEK!!!!
I feel like I should celebrate...bust out a Belgian Ale and toast to the work week already being pretty much over and done with. I just would fear that drinking so early would make me instantly an alcoholic and cause me to start DT'ing one hour after having such an early brew.
I'm a very paranoid person.
I've taken this post from a gleeful to very dark place, so let's get things back on track!
*spins wheel*
ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
UGH! This chorus makes this song TOO EASY. But, this it is by luck that it landed on this song, so I've gotta go with it.
-------------------------------
(STARTING FROM 2:24 into the song)
Loving fooz aside (My ears are definitely in need of a test. This song should be something almost fully in English)
Aww lah
I wanna smoke a co-o-ton lip to myself luh-aw-ot
Huh lot to cemetary
(immediately into verse)
Oh ho-oh-oh-oh-oh flea-ee-ee
Deep in luh-uh-ove (I knew there were English words in here somewhere!)
Oh ho-oh-oh-oh-oh flea-ee-ee
In deep in luh-uh-ove
Oh ho-oh-oh-oh-oh flea-ee-ee
Shore eh ce-eh-ell
This luh-uh-uh-uh-ove muh say-ayell
May ess tea-ee-ee
Uh ho-oh-oh-oh-oh flea-ee-ee
Bum bo knee-ee-ee
Duh-ho-oh-oh-oh-oh vuh neh-eh-eh
Doe mess-sea-ee-ee
(END OF SONG)
And the giveaway chorus is kind of sung over top in a second vocal track throughout that final verse. GOOD LUCK!
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

I'm back and ready to get back to normal life. Let's do this!
*spins wheel*
ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
Great! I love this one. Hopefully, I'm caffeinated enough to translate this syllable salad into some semblance of a phonetic translation. Without further ado....
-------------------------------
(STARTING FROM 1:04 into this choon)
Whoa en Eva
Lay-lay Eva (who is this EVA? Sure getting lots of love in this operatic part of the song)
Yo ven tee tah
Oh hen Hee Haw (never knew they were fans of Country & Western variety shows)
Oh reff ee faw
Agnes ee fwa
Less ess ee flood
Oh uh red rum
(verse)
Whatsy nupsy ifnay vah noo la da vee come
Clifton nup parenna renna Sara rennum
(CHORUS)
Focus some
Mini Me (Obviously, this song is being sung by Dr. Evil...maybe showing some love to Mini Me or just something to make Scott jealous?)
Olly monny
Mini Me
Filly so
Killy dough
Yilly mock a yilly mock
And that's all I'm giving today but I think it should be enough to go off of.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
IT SHALL RETURN....Tomorrow
Today was my first day back to work and it was as crazy as I had feared. So much for people taking the short 'Murica's Birthday week off. So, while I wanted to post a new Name That Cocteaune today, work is just too crazy to post today. I shall return tomorrow with a new game, hopefully.

Finally Got To Photograph the Ian Curtis Mural
Sad though how many blank stares you get around Manchester though when you ask about the Ian Curtis mural. They seriously think this is just a random painting of some guy doing karaoke.
Cocteau Twins on the Day Trip from Edinburgh
Greetings from SCOTLAND!
I just wanted to report that on the small group tour from Edinburgh to Glenncoe, Loch Ness, and the Highlands, Cocteau Twins was played twice on the tour bus driver’s playlist of fine examples of Scottish music (“Heaven or Las Vegas” and “Those Eyes, That Mouth”). So, it does appear that the Scots take great pride in citing Cocteau Twins as a representation of their nation’s music.
BTW, I highly recommend taking this tour with Rabbie’s tours and hopefully you’ll get Kenny as your guide. He’s a very entertaining guy with great taste in music (playlist also included Jesus & Mary Chain, Mogwai, Primal Scream, and Franz Ferdinand).
Actresses Singing With Belle & Sebastian: Carey Mulligan vs Emily Browning
I give the edge to Browning here. Any other opinions on this topic?
Tigermilk vs. Sinister
Now after seeing both albums performed on back-to-back nights, I've come to the realization that I (this is probably a very unpopular opinion) like the album TIGERMILK better than IF YOU'RE FEELING SINISTER. It also wasn't just because I liked the overall setlist for the Tigermilk show in SF better. There are just more songs that strike a nerve with me emotionally on Tigermilk (particularly "Mary Joe" and "My Wandering Days Are Over").
Am I alone on this opinion?

Though, don't be surprised if, in two weeks, you may start seeing random games posted at odd for me hours.
But, if anyone is willing to take over for me during vacation, please let me know!*
LIFE IS SOOOOOO GOOD!
Obviously, I've either gone insane, I've just seen the Belle and Sebastian 30th anniversary shows for their albums TIGERMILK and IF YOU'RE FEELING SINISTER on back to back nights, or I'm about to go on VACATION to the UK....or a combination of any or all of these.
Today, be on your toes, for this may be my last NTC post for over two weeks.
Without further ado, I will spin the WHEEL....OF....COCTEAU!
*spins wheel*
ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
Oh, fuck me. The Wheel of Cocteau obviously hates my guts and wanted to throw a bucket of water on my good mood by making today's transcription VERY HARD FOR ME.
Deep breath....Let's do this. Takin' it from the top.
-------------------------------
Fripp Fripp Fripp Fripp Fripp ee-con-cee (is this like the second possible reference to legendary guitarist Robert Fripp within one of their songs in this game this week?)
Slip slip slip slip slip ee-gal-ya
Yip yip yip yip yip ephelia (not OPHELIA, but EPHELIA, like the parents wanted to name their newborn Ophelia, typos happened, and they just went with it since it made the kid seem unique)
Lip lip lip lip lip ee-steel-ya
Skip grip lip sip yip ee feel me
Flip drip skip mip sip salumi
(NOTE: during that previous line, another vocal track of Liz repeatedly singing what kind of sounds like "SABADA" and other gibberish repeatedly starts in and continues)
Chip dip jip blip nip feel nausea
Whip ip fip flip kip (as you can probably tell, I've stopped really trying to transcribe this and I'm just filling in syllables that rhyme with "ip") ee ya ya
(AND YET ANOTHER SET OF LYRICS BEGIN IN ANOTHER VOCAL TRACK SO THIS IS DRIVING MY ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER RIDDLED BRAIN INTO A TIZZY AND THIS IS WHERE I BAIL)
---------------
Sorry....every new day yields new experiences and today was the day where I had to eject out of a song because I could smell by brain fuming trying to process everything that was going on.
Sorry.
Hopefully that was enough for you all to go off of.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
Songs That You Love But Don't Get Enough Live Love
Good morning, y'all. Who else who went to the Sinister show last night at the Masonic in San Francisco are now up bright and early for WORK?
While I'm still on a high from the show last night and comparing these last two 30th anniversary celebrations with the probably almost 10 times I've seen them prior, I'm thinking about songs that I feel like I never see them play live despite how much these songs are loved to death within my household. Here's my list of songs that I personally love but just sense that I've never seen them play throughout the years I've gone to see them (or just not frequent enough because they are just great tracks):
- There's Too Much Love
- C'mon Sister
- The Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner
- Put The Book Back on the Shelf
I'd like to hear what other songs you all think that you just may be one your own island when it comes to loving from them.

OI! Do I ever feel old today. I really shouldn't go out on work night because I am just flying fire-breathing lizard booty today (get it? DRAGGIN' ASS. Sorry....another sign I'm old. I tell dad jokes).
But, I'm a trooper and I can provide you with a game today before I head to vacation and go on hiatus.
*spins wheel with extra gusto*
ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the wheel of Cocteau Twins songs stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
Ooh....a really gibberishy one. Much like yesterday's I'm going to provide you with an outro.
STARTING AT 3:11 IN....
-------------------------------
Dogga moo
Dogga moo
Polka fee lye seeyie aye amour
Dogga moo
Dogga moo
Polka fee lye see yie ay amour
Oh shit! That was lyrically all that was left from that point on.
And I'm too hungover to bother with starting at another point in the song.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
And I do recognize that this one may be giving you all too little to go off of, so clue to be given at 1PM Pacific if nobody has guessed a correct answer.

HAPPY HUMPDAY!
I'm so excited! I'm almost at the finish line for getaway week and also have shows to attend tonight and tomorrow night for one of my other favorite Scottish bands.
*spins wheel with extra gusto*
ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the wheel of Cocteau Twins songs stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
Even though this song title is not the same name as what it draws to mind, it always makes my think of bright lights and cocktails around an indoor firepit.
Anyway, I'm randomly going to dive into this one mid-song.
STARTING AT 2:08 IN....
-------------------------------
Itz wuz
Oh *CENSORED* (full song title)
Aughts in snow-ooh-whoa-ooh-oh
Hee-hee hee-hee hee-hee zen shee
Hoss in snow oh oh woss
Hee-hee hee-hee hee-hee you zen shee
Hoo-hoo hoo-hoo hoo-hoo hoo-hoo
Hoo-hoo hoo-hoo hoo-hoo
Gotta gotta gotta gaze zweiss
Oh endless skies
No-no-no know son walls
Yo noozle ties
Then the song outros from there.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
P.S. Am I remembering wrong, or is a "noozle" some sort of creature from a Dr. Seuss book? If so, I'm glad to see that Liz, Robin, and Simon are fans of the Doctor's writings too, though he was super shady and probably killed his own wife.

Time once again to spin the WHEEL....OF....COCTEAU!
*spins wheel*
ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the wheel of Cocteau Twins songs stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
Another one that I'm certain has actually full blown English language words!
Now, whether they are combined into something that doesn't read as a word salad, that remains to be seen.
And for today, I will actually transcribe from 2:22 in until the end of the song.
-------------------------------
Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh
Save a mess
See my boy came over
Saved and blessed
CHORUS
Say Funyuns (admittedly, I may just be hearing this because I'm hungry. I've been doing some serious calorie counting prior to vacay and have already lost 7 pounds and am only 0.8 lbs away from my pre-vacation weight loss goal! Probably only to gain it allow back and then some because I'm a glutunous pig)
Blessing them
Gazing
Whoa wood
Say Falling
Dah yooz Leia (ah...another use of actual words streak ends)
Woo Weejuns (like penny loafer shoes?)
Lah dah yuzz (admittedly, that may have been transcribed in that manner due to lack of focus because I'm still thinking about how a bag of Funyuns sounds really good right now)
Say phallus
Lost in there
Gazing
All day
Say Fallon (I swear....she's saying something different with each different section of this chorus. Thankfully, I think this song predated any fame for Jimmy Fallon, so this isn't some homage to that hack.)
Bah yooz may yuh
Ooh beejus
La la la la
That last "la" is drawn out, but END OF SONG.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
Where is my stash of protein bars?

WOOHOO! One week from today, I will be in Edinburgh, Scotland, visiting the country that spawned the Cocteau Twins for the very first time (Scotland....been to the UK many a time). I am so psyched. I am so mentally checked out of work and, luckily, my workload seems to be obliging me doing just that. I hope everyone else is having a good start to their weeks as well.

ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!
Where the wheel of Cocteau Twins songs stops, NO ONE KNOWS!
AND IT STOPS ON.....
OH! This should have some intelligible lyrics. I'm curious how keen my ears will be today.
GOOD LUCK (to you all and to me as well in transcribing)!
Now from the top....
-------------------------------
Its in a chokey way
In a social gray
He sell la-la-lettuce
Like he said he would, like he said he would
It's in a chokey way
In a social gray
He sell la-la-lettuce
Like he said he would, like he said he would
Like he said he would, like he said he would, like he said he would
I think you should all know this track obviously about a guy running a vegetable stand.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
