Something that I'm going to post the lyrics for from 2:30 to 3:19 into the song.

We have been known to go before

I'll sign to go and bust a move (Must remind myself after I post this to see if Young MC has a songwriting credit for this track)

The ID knew to go before the scaramoo to bust a move flow

Vee-senz-ah

We have been know to go before

This guy says go and bust a move (and that "guy" was Young MC, I'm assuming. I'll shut up now)

Today, since I saw some grievances regarding yesterday's post and a certain someone's dominance in this game, I just wanted to announce that today's song (CLUE) will not be "Touch Upon Touch", so enjoy spectating today, u/amnesiaec*.*

That being said, now it is time to spin that WHEEL.....OF.....COCTEAU!

ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!

Where the wheel of Cocteau Twins songs stops, NO ONE KNOWS!

AND IT STOPS ON.....

Since I apparently made the song obviously based upon my pre-game blathering last time, I'm going to remain tight lipped, other than letting you know that today's lyrics come from the end of the song, beginning at the1:37 mark.

-------------------------------

Where was your nose there?

Ephemeral beasts and the truth

Can come feel the brain leaf

No come as ee wise eh

Again

Ahead

Ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah

Ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah

Ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah

Ha-uh-ah

Ha-uh-ah

Ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah

Ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah

Ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah

Ha-uh-ah

Ha-uh-ah

And this is seen la-la stolen love

Motions own emotion and emotions are hard

Cant' whinin' if I find my wine calling card

Motions own emotion and emotions are hard

And this is saying fall in love, fall in love

Motions own emotion and emotions are hard

Apologies in advance if some lyrics may have been fudged. There was some construction work going on at the office building I work at and I was kind of grooving to it, distracting my concentration a bit, because it reminded me of "Abfackeln!" by Einsturzende Neubauten.

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

Back to the normal format. Though I may have to do another Gauntlet-style multiple song entry like yesterday another time. I just simply need to give a good reason to use the clue "Mary Richards' flatmate" and link to that YouTube video which is TOO PERFECT (IYKYK).

Until then, it's back to spinning the WHEEL.....OF.....COCTEAU!

ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!

Where the wheel of Cocteau Twins songs stops, NO ONE KNOWS!

AND IT STOPS ON.....

Well, shit. What the hell song is this?

*quick Googling*

Well that explains why I've never heard this song before. Well, I will need to listen to this twice to properly identify where verses end and choruses begin because this will be my first listens to this song. And I have to get it from YouTube so the audio is not going to be quite as clear as I normally get.

GOOD LUCK

-------------------------------

As would

I've seen faces

Have you saw goo

Aw naw-you faa-naa-neu

Scholar eights

Wilson hallah

Hell haa

Waa-la-la forget

Sue woke up

Stars and fallings

Ha-la star and heavens

Forewarn

Yah haflings

Flor-eh-fonz (AYYYY!)

Fall olly fed

CHORUS

Sly-sly-sly

Sly in your eye

Sly mig your eye

Sly-sly-sly

Ohhhhh...oh me hig yeoman

Sly mig ye eye

And I'm going to stop there because it devolves into multiple vocal tracks cannibalizing each other and I'll start ripping my hair out from frustration with failing to keep up and I don't want to be bald. Nothing against baldness. It just wouldn't work for me.

That being said, this will probably be solved in record time because I would've never known what the fuck this is.

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

You're probably wondering, "Bill, why are the rules all crossed out?"

Well, today, we're attacking Name That Cocteaune in a whole different manner.

I have to....we've pretty much gone through the whole discography, save for 5 tracks and a bunch of instrumentals where I don't have the musical knowledge to figure out the note a chord progressions of those instrumentals, so here's what I've come up with for today:

THE NAME THAT COCTEAUNE PRODUCT PLACEMENT GAUNTLET!

Today, I'm looking for four songs that include either commonly misheard lyrics or title references to things that make the songs almost seem like these songs are advertisements for these things.

EXAMPLE: if this was a Jimmy Buffet forum and the clue I gave was "fast food", you would respond with "Cheeseburger in Paradise".

Excuse me for a minute while I vomit and beat the shit out of myself for bringing up Jimmy Buffet.

Once you see the clues, I think this will be pretty easy to catch on and should be a fun way to handle today's game.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, I am looking for FOUR SONGS that name drop...

-------------------------------

1) One of the leading tourism spots in the United States of America

2) A circular oaten breakfast cereal

3) a Scottish cocktail

4) (if you add an apostrophe + "S" to the end of the lyric) a chain of American family diners

I need 4 titles. The first person to respond with the correct FOUR song titles wins.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!

Where the wheel of Cocteau Twins songs stops, NO ONE KNOWS!

AND IT STOPS ON.....

We've been there. Done this one before. But to put a challenging spin on this song, I will just try to transcribe Liz's scatting at the end of the song.

GOOD LUCK

-------------------------------

(Starting at 3:52 into the song, sung over top of Liz singing a bit of the standard melody of...

"See ya

Freedom"

..etc.)

Mocha mana feela, mocha mana feela mocha mana feela

Loco sana, loco sana, loco sana mocha mama feel ah

Mocha mana feela, mocha mana feela mocha mana feela

Loco sana, loco sana, loco sana mocha mama feel ah

Mocha mana feela, mocha mana feela mocha mana feela

Loco sana, loco sana, loco sana mocha mama feel ah

Mocha mana feela, mocha mana feela mocha mana feela

Loco sana, loco sana, loco sana mocha mama feel ah

Ooh...I'm feeling an ellusive stumper today!

Which probably means that someone with guess the correct answer within one minute.

HA HA! Possibly the easiest song possible. But, I'm making this a little harder. NO CHORUS, which gives this song away.

GOOD LUCK

-------------------------------

*CENSORED* (full song title), *CENSORED* (Last word of the title only)

*CENSORED* (full song title)

Makes the extra fan tumble

*CENSORED* (full song title)

It's a cat-see man-bao (canniblism reference? Eating bao buns made of soylent green?)

*CENSORED* (full song title)

Makes a pep-soor ess-pool

*CENSORED* (full song title)

THAT is all you get today because the chorus is just too much of a dead giveaway.

Any Cocteau Twins-related Historical Stops I Can Hit?

I will be travelling to the UK exactly one month from Friday, spending the first 5 nights in Edinburgh, the following 2 nights in Glasgow, the following 2 nights in Manchester, 1 night in York, and then the remaining 3 nights in my favorite city in the entire world, LONDON! I have already planned on finding the following music-related places on this trip, since I'm such a music geek:

GLASGOW:

  • King Tut's Wah Wah Hut (famous live venue)
  • The location of the former HQ of Postcard Records

MANCHESTER:

  • Salford Lad's Club
  • Location of the Hacienda and Factory Records HQ
  • Southern Cemetary to see the graves of Tony Wilson, Martin Hannett, Andy Rourke, and Moors Murders Victim Edward Evans (tied to songs by both The Smiths and Throbbing Gristle....and I'm just twisted for which I should be ashamed of myself)
  • Macclesfield Cemetary to see Ian Curtis' grave

LONDON

  • I hope my wife will let me see Mute Records HQ

So, lots of things related to music, but nothing related to Cocteau Twins. Is there some historical spot tied to them in any of those cities that I'm forgetting about and would be kicking myself for not visiting?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Before I get into today's song, I just wanted to impart this bit of knowledge for anyone ever curious to become a (if I can call myself one) prolific lyric transcriber: IT REALLY HELPS TO WEAR A SLIGHTLY SMALLISH MASK THAT YOU CAN BARELY REACH AROUND YOUR EARLOBES WHEN USING NOISE CANCELLING EARBUDS. Finding my old "Eww, David" Schitt's Creek face mask that I struggle with getting around my ears really pulls my lobes forward, making an even more bowl-shaped recepticle to receive sounds. It's definitely allowed me to, I feel, do a better job of handling transcriptions on the public transit commute to the office.

Now on to today's song, which I think we all love because this has a chorus chockful of gibberish and a title with (I believe) a completely made-up verb.

Today, I'm giving you the second verse and second chorus (I can actually tell they sing different "words" between the first and second chorus!).

-------------------------------

Leh yeah lie yie

Fell through my harbor

Yeah luh lie yie

Fell through my heart

(XYLOPHONE BREAK)

CHORUS

Messy gaze

Kwess-i-kwaze

Way yay

Joyful joining

Messy gaze

Kwess-i-kwaze

Way yay

Joyful joining at the feet of god

What is this song featuring a made-up verb in the title?

Round and round the wheel of random Cocteau goodness goes!

Where it stops? Nobody knows!

And it has stopped on...

...ONE OF MY FAVORITES! It was done before, but I think enough time has elapsed to make this seem novel again.

Like yesterday, I'll do SECOND VERSE, plus chorus.

-------------------------------

Fa-fa-da-fame

So long

Fish eggs

A leaf, aloha serenade

Thin sow

So no

At least he ya-ya ya-ya ya

Thin sow

Fish eggs

A leaf, aloha serenade

Thin sow

So no

At least he ya-ya ya-ya ya

CHORUS

Ma boo jazz sin some into winter woo-shoo-shoo

Ma Boo jazz sin some into winter woo, shoo-shoo, snoo-zow

Ma boo jazz sin some into winter woo-shoo-shoo

Ma Boo jazz sin some into winter woo, shoo-shoo, snoo-zow

Everyone knows this song about (considering the references to "fish eggs" and "aloha") eating caviar in Hawaii, am I right?

A belated HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to my fellow r/cocteautwins Subredditors! I hope everyone had a good time with the mothers in their lives.

Round and round the wheel of random Cocteau goodness goes!

And it has stopped on...

...a classic! I guess I'm easing you all into this week with one I'm assuming will be easily guessed correctly with the first stab.

This time around, I'm doing SECOND VERSE, plus chorus.

-------------------------------

Meal yourself forever, your father

For no so-oh-ho-ho, ho to your own ways

You're really buff boh-ho-ho, setter

Thank you-ooh-ooh-ooh, underneath the haze

CHORUS

Your the mite chuck cherry coals

That will burn this whole madhouse down

A mud throw open like the walnut say

It would seem more like being unplugged par say bar told

This exquisite stuff gets you all the might

And cherry coal and will burn

This old madhouse down to my floor

Open like the walnut say

This one's a slam dunk. What other song from them features the chorus about a talking walnut?

I've decided to just stop trying setting a precursor "Difficulty Level" on these. Face it....they're all hard except for a few. And, much like my word recognition skills when sung, my difficulty assessment has always been really bad.

Now let's spin that wheel of Cocteau!

Round and round the wheel of random Cocteau goodness goes!

Where it stops? Nobody knows!

And it has stopped on...

*scours archives*

...something that I've failed to take a shot at transcribing yet. I'm having deja vu about this track though. But, I know through posting this game, I've now, I THINK, officially licensed to every Cocteau Twins track at least once, so I could just be having false memories of posting this one already.

And I think after this, there is only one other track with lyrics that I've yet to take a shot at, but I may just flat-out avoid because I tried to do it one of the mornings and there were just too many Liz vocal tracks going on simultaneously and sung softly that trying to transcribe just gave me a migraine.

Enough of my ramblings! BTW...guess who got to sleep in for the first time in years for a full 8 hours? I digress...

-------------------------------

I am in a fairy tick thats

Me not knowing whom amazing thing

Understands me who knows loves me

All day

All

Because I haven't ee-ent ee-ent hunt

Eee moss

Ee fall knee-uh knee-uh

I could have done something differently

CHORUS

(jumping in immediately in on the last syllable of the verse)

You can't hear but you can't feel yeah

You can't hear but you can't feel yeah

You can't hear but you can't feel yeah

You can't hear but you can't feel yeah

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

Another track previously done here, but I'll take yesterday's lead and give your the end of the song instead..

Beginning at 1:51 into this track, I give you one verse, a chorus, and an outro verse.

-------------------------------

I say ess pay es zoh

No on the fly

Tuh toe eh toe

I say essken ess saw

CHORUS

Tuh-tah tuh-tah tuh-tah tuh-tah

Et-voh et-voh et-voh et-voh

OUTRO VERSE

I say ess pay es zoh

No on the fly

Tuh toe eh toe

Since I'm just going with it, I know I did this one before. But, let's do the second verse and a chorus this time around with this one.

Starting at 1:37 into the song....

-------------------------------

(SPOKEN)

My mother with you (??? Sorry....she's so mumbly and soft spoken. Who would win in a low talker battle between her and Bjork? I wonder...)

No time is stayed (??? I'm quickly learning that it's even harder to decipher Liz's spoken word parts than her singing parts)

(/SPOKEN)

I'd show worship, I'd haunt you

I should gash you, I'll cashew (It's probably "kiss you", not "cashew", but Liz's pronunciation sounds so much like "cashew", I'm going with "cashew")

CHORUS

(and probably the dead giveaway)

Dino meff en eye Faye

I sliver on holiday

Dino meff en eye Faye

I sliver on holiday-ayee-ay

Yeah, that coulda been a contender for stumper until that chorus. Oh well.

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

THE RULES:

  1. I listen to a Cocteau Twins song
  2. I attempt to transcribe the lyrics WITHOUT ANY AID OF LINER NOTES OR LYRICS WEBSITES (foolish....I know)
  3. You reply with your guess as to what the song is.
  4. Multiple guesses are allowed! HOWEVER, if a multiple guesser gets the correct answer within the same minute as another Redditor who has yet to guessthe Redditor guessing the song on their first guess WINS. If multiple Redditors who have already lobbed guesses get the correct answer within the same minute time stamp on my notifications, the Redditor I'm notified of first wins.
  5. The winner gets….honestly…nothing. Except bragging rights, a celebratory GIF, and a link to the song of the day.

[NOTE: Any lyrics I perceive that either name a good portion of the song title or is just the song title in whole will be blocked out with *CENSORED*. Text shown in italics wrapped in parentheses are just my snarky asides, usually about my shitty hearing.]

Round and round the wheel of random Cocteau goodness goes!

Where it stops? Nobody knows!

And it has stopped on...

...a song that I admittedly like a bit less every time I hear it, probably because some of the weird whooping that Liz does on one of the vocal tracks is very distracting and makes me think she was badly in need of meds. It's also possibly the most American audience friendly track from the release it is on, so this is not one of my favorite tracks. But, to quote the great Willie Soke (AKA the Bad Santa), "THEY CAN'T ALL BE WINNERS, KID".

Enough babbling! One verse, one chorus. Here we go!

-------------------------------

All out of losses

Don't know what could do

Feel like the waterman's knife

Could you just hold with me

Just feel so full of too sorrow

Or into sun see shut

I feel a lot like hot bronze feet

A devil's muzz inyen

There's no guarantee

Holly's in bloom

If there is lots of calming

A million on-key

CHORUS

Id knock-uh

Id laga

Id loggin con tree

Come cuv-ya

Aye guvna

See coven on free

Actually, that part of the song is lilting and quite pleasant. It just gets headache inducing when Liz track #3 during the chorus kicks in later in the song when she starts sounding like what I imagine the famous Bowian creature "the pink monkey bird" would sound like.

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

*chuckle*

I'll just say, one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES TO "TRANSCRIBE".

I hear some hilarious nonsense in this song from memory and I wonder if headphoned me still hears that same thing.

Oh yeah....this song starts with a chorus or is it kind of just all chorus?

-------------------------------

CHORUS

*CENSORED* (whole song title) you'll hear the sign

Of goo doo dough me pencil dick

*CENSORED* (whole song title MINUS final syllable) and here they come

Our mascara and gunny holes

*CENSORED* (whole song title) you'll hear the sign

Of goo doo dough me pencil dick

*CENSORED* (whole song title) oh owwwww

Here-ere-re the sou-ou-ou-ounds yeah

Well if there's one thing I learned from this time around with this song is that it is definitely "goo goo dough me pencil dick" and not "voodoo commie pencil dick" which was what I used to think the line was.

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
