Relied solely on organic streams and push from my circle the first week, Radio and Mixes started picking it up so then I started pitching to curators on SubmitHub - still got a long way to go. Been inspired by a lot of posts here 🙏

(The track’s a bilingual old school-desi fusion Hip Hop track in English and Hindi)

Hey folks!

Dropped my first ever track 10 days ago, it’s a bilingual English-Hindi old school story style hip hop track. It got some initial organic streams cause my circle just didn’t expect it. It’s the first in a 5 track EP, dropping the next one tomorrow and should have dropped all by June 1st/2nd week.

Two things:

1. Ik most people suggest to space out a waterfall strategy more, but its my first ever venture into music and I don’t wanna give my current audience and the algorithm any breathing space (for this first project)
2. I’ve seen posts shitting on this approach, but i think it’s what I knew at the moment - My focus rn is entirely on Spotify playlisting. The objective is to get on its larger algorithmic playlists like Discover, and eventually editorial playlists. I’m not too bothered by Instagram followers (yet)

Now the track did start getting featured on Radio about 4 days from release. Two days later, Mixes. Fkn ecstatic. But then streams for Mixes has completely stopped over the last 2/3 days, and Radio is going steady, but I kinda expected it (maybe incorrectly so) to be past the 100 mark rn

TLDR: is this the right strategy u think? Also any general advice would be very welcome

SO A COUPLE DAYS AGO I SHARED A LIL ABOUT MY FIRST TRACK THAT I DROPPED ON MAY 1st!!

It’s my first ever musical anything so i shared my stats to get a reality check and it super helpful and sweet!

From what i can see online - this ‘Radio’ thing is supposed to be what i was fkn hoping for - the beginning of Spotify playlisting. I know this isn’t the editorial playlists, but is this like my own radio, or actual proof that we’re gaining some traction???

And if it playlisting - guys i feel over the fkn moooooon!!!! This is such a small win compared to others I’ve seen here, i know 🤣

BUT IT FEELS HUGE FOR ME!! I have such extreme anxiety, putting anything out into the world was scary - let alone something that no one ever pegged me for - a rapper. This shit may have low-key saved my soul …

This is a bit of a self-described hype story but might be worth sharing.

I’m a fkn nobody in the music space. I came to Bombay to be an actor almost 2-3 years ago from outside India and in that time i had some success, but i learnt that i had very lil creative input. Eventually I told myself that acting cannot be the only thing to satisfy that creative itch …

So in October 2025, i picked up a pen and paper. Like I said, i have no experience with music - but music and specifically rap has saved my life and sanity on so many occasions.

I had the following tools: a love for stories, rhythm, basic understanding of chords, and a decent voice.

That’s how it started and fast forward to today, i just dropped the first of a 5 track EP this weekend. NOW - I haven’t hit INSANE viral numbers on the track (yet) or spent anything on marketing, but the response has been INSANELY unexpected. Friends and family who I haven’t spoken to in years, sending messages, sharing and most importantly - SAVING the song.

This is just the start. I have a bunch of songs more, and things in the industry are already progressing by gods grace and i guarantee you this - imma be giving an AMA on this sub … AND even if it doesn’t happen fuck it - i will never stop writing and rapping. It’s given me a new life.

The reason I’m typing all this here is because even in this brief time that I’ve been a part of the music scene, I’ve seen so many potential rappers waste their time and potential for stupid reasons like - log kya kahenge. Bhai, WHO CARES WHAT PAMMI AUNTY THINKS!?

Bhai, ek baar bas udne ki koshish karo. Worst case scenario tum giroge. But you’ll learn so much from picking yourself up. So make that song, share it with everyone and keep honing your craft. This is coming from someone who’s failed more times than you could count.
