Despite me having original characters in my mind, I put all my energy in creating fan arts - I have an ongoing fan comic and Im also writing fan fictions and creating illustrations for it.

Point is, I almost never have the motivation to draw my original characters and stories. Somehow, I work better with already existing "muses". This allowed me to meet new people, new artists and such and Im very slowly getting some kind of fan base.

My dream would be to work as either a comic writer or cover artist for a certain IP I love. It probably will never happen, Im entering my thirties, but this dream alone allowed me to get incredibly better at drawing in just one year, something that never happened whenever I would (scarcely) dedicate myself to my original stories.

Therefore I would call myself a fan artist. But does that make me a "lesser" artist? Shouldn't I have the goal to create my own brand instead of " settling " to work on fan arts?
