Joining the team, sorry for taking away your slots :D

On a serious note...I've been on the waiting list for about nine months; last week, I finally got invited to proceed with the signing-up process. I completed the tasks this weekend, I was wondering how long, realistically to get started and do my first job?

The right to work verification has already taken more than 2 business days excluding the weekend…so the ETA given doesn't provide a definitive answer anymore.

I haven't uploaded a selfie yet, because I wasn't feeling it, is possible this is delaying the other tasks?

How is Liverpool and its surroundings looking these days, are there slots?

Thanks.

About a month ago I drove inside the ULEZ zone London, I have the automatic payment in place but I've never been charged and no letter has come through. Should I be worried or what's the deal?

I feel like I might have avoided every working camera in town…

Edit: my car is not compliant.

[Update] Worth buying? NISAN Elgrand 2003

The car starts, the engine knocks, engine runs, however, it only stays running while the accelerator is pressed.

209k miles, some rust underneath. But not structural.

MOT until 30 June 2027, so it just passed.

VA52ZTG

Unfortunately my OBD wasn't able to read the faults or detect the car, maybe because it is an imported Japanese… I tried with my car and another car and both worked and detected the vehicles but not this Nisan.

The owner had it up for sale for £1100 managed to haggle it down to £700 then while testing the engine, it couldn't stay idled and died unless I pressed the acelator, so now down to £600.

I am an amateur mechanic who's fond of fixing things, I have managed to change engine parts, brake pads, disks, A/C compressor…but this feels out of my league or unfamiliar, I wouldn't be asking if I was able to read the fault and diagnosed a possible expense on the repair…but since is knocking like that and not staying at idle unless pressing gas, to me sounds fixable investing a couple hundred on the repair parts and time… but I need someone’s opinion who is more familiar with fixing engines.

It has new tyres, new rear suspension…not that it matters if replacing the engine is in the thousands haha

8 years with Starling and Overdraft taken away + “free” money??

Would anyone know why Starling would decide to remove my overdraft and refund all the interest they charged me over the past 8 years, plus an additional 8% interest on that amount because I didn’t have access to that money until I was refunded?
They refunded me £117 in interest I had paid since I opened my account 8–9 years ago.
They also paid me an additional £27.
I’ve never defaulted or missed repaying them. I was fully aware that the longer I took to pay them back, the more interest I would pay. About 5–6 years ago, my overdraft utilisation was almost maxed out at £600–700 while I was going through a difficult period in my life, and it served me well. I eventually paid it back in full.
Now that I’ve moved my finances elsewhere, I’ve kept using Starling for some direct debits, which have occasionally taken me into a small overdraft (usually less than £50). However, it’s never remained overdrawn for more than two weeks, and I’ve always paid it back, sometimes within days or even hours.
I don’t understand this gesture from Starling. I appreciate it, but to be honest, I would have preferred to keep my overdraft rather than receive a refund. I’ll just put the money towards something else now.
Does this have anything to do with not complying with the FCA and being forced to address something they did wrong, or are they trying to clean up their books ahead of an IPO?

So strange…

My GF keeps insisting she also likes F1 not because of me, but because she is a fan as well…

Whenever I throw a random fact about F1 she always comes back with the silliest questions…like after today's British Grand Prix, Claire Williams was hosting the Channel 4 after-race and I commented “She used to own Williams you know, she's pretty cool” then her reply, “What’s that, a car brand?” I calmly asked “What team do Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon drive for?” She then said “Who are those?”

The reason I am upset is that I can't stand someone pretending, especially my partner to like something just because I do, when confronted she insists she doesn't like it because of me but because they genuinely like it too, annoying really…we’ve been together 4 years. Today I even drove to Silverstone.

I Learned the Hard Way: Never Replace a MacBook Keyboard Without a New Top Case

For context:

I while back I ventured myself to replace the keyboard on my MacBook Pro, which I thought would be a simple walk in the park, but the keyboard is bolted into the chassis and there is no simple way for you to screw this back in and leave it with a brand new feeling after installation. I tried making holes where the bolts were to fit tiny tiny screws but didn't work out and wasn't easy.

BLUE CIRCLE - Replaced brand new keyboard (no top case) although it looks fine, the lack of screwing in the middle sections of the keyboard has left the typing experience lacking and unenjoyable as there is a lot of travel and depth when pressing keys, making you feel like you are typing on a cheap broken keyboard.

YELLOW CIRCLE - Original old replaced keyboard.

A brand new original top case from Apple costs £595.27 (798.22$) that comes with a brand new battery, top case, and keyboard…

I managed to get one on eBay for £45 (60$) comes with everything, fans, usb c ports, keyboard, battery, speakers, touch ID, Trackpad, in mint condition, even in better condition than my original top case and with 100% battery health with 86 cycle counts. Currently, my MacBook has 586 cycle counts and 80% battery health!!! What a win!!! And I get to keep spare parts in case anything else breaks.

This M1 Pro Max with 32GB RAM will last me another 5 years I think.

Do marshals actually work overtime?

Sky Sports every week's race incident:

"The marshals are working overtime today."
"The marshals have had a lot more work than usual."

Like really, what's the extra work, they get paid to do their job, not for watching F1.

This gorilla seems deep in thought like a real human being, is this the real deal or just AI?

The expression on this Gorilla’s face all the way through, is too human, too real, you can almost see through his thoughts.

How's this even legal?

Saw this at Tesco, isn't this a genuinely dangerous blind spot?

Edit:

Maybe the driver has just parked there since the incident and never drove it again. So, legal as long as you don't drive it…who knows. But it's a Tesco parking, not so sure you can leave it there indefinitely until repaired without paying a fine.

I was thinking, what could stop someone from actually driving a truck as a daily driver in the UK? There must be a mf out there thinking “why not.., I love Optimus Prime” are there any rules that could make it difficult for the regular Joe to have his dream come true?
