Prompt Post: Send in prompts for different characters at the Wall

Hello,

This week we are looking for prompts to do with different characters ending up on the Wall.

Somethings to consider may be: How did they end up there? Which order are they assigned to and do they eventually make it far up enough to have command?

If they become Lord Commander, how do they deal with the Wildlings.

Or whatever else comes to mind, just choose a character who isn't canonically a member of the Night's Watch and talk about their journey and life on the Wall below.

Whatever it is, you can talk about it below, just please make sure to make it clear if you are going to use the idea yourself for a fic :)

Beta Barter Thread-May 22nd 2026

The concept of the beta barter is straightforward enough:

Got a fic? explain it and tell us what you're looking for and see who bites.

Got some free time to help out? Tell us what you're good at, what you will and won't read (pretty important)

And I will leave it there.

Please comment below.

QOTW- Are you looking forward to House of the Dragon S3?

It's about a month til it starts, I must say, while I'm not looking forward to the fact that the rumoured end point paints a really badly paced season. It isn't that surprising considering they cut two episodes.

But I suppose it is quite cool that we can say we got two shows from this universe within the same year, so there's that.

Wednesday Reading Report: What have you read so far this week?

Hello all!

While WIP Wednesday is for writers, this post is for those who are currently reading ASOIAF/HOTD/GOT fics.

Please share your favourites below!

Make sure to include a link and tell us what the fic(s) are about 📖.

Bonus: Mention if you happened to find the fic here; I am genuinely curious.

Out of the fics you have been reading over the last few months, what year were they first published in?

Out of the fics you have read recently, what year were they first published in?

So what year did the fic start, and if they're relatively older, are they still updating?

I want to run an awards focusing basically all categories on 2025 and 2026, but I want to know if that's feasible or not and I figured this may be some form of indication.

Obviously the term recently is a little subjective, for the sake of this activity that means the start of 2026.

Looking for fix it fics this week

Hello again, it's Tuesday, you know what that means.

This week we are looking for your favourite fix it fics,

In general fix it fics refers to fics that look to fix the main show, usually starting from S5-8, but you could argue we have gone beyond that at this stage in the form of issues with House of the Dragon, or maybe you just have something to show that is completely AU.

If you have any and wish to share, please drop the links to them below, self promo is fine as always.

Fix your Fic's Meta- May 18th

Hello all!

Let's fix your meta today

So how does it work?

This type of post focuses on the Title and Summary of a fic as well as the tags (especially in the case of AO3).

It is also a perfect place to ask any questions you may have about the fandom that are causing you to be anxious about starting, perhaps getting an answer will help.

Or maybe this can be a place to redefine what you are offering, making it clearer who your audience is, knowing where you are going wrong with tagging or anything like that.

Describe the issue and we will see what we as a community can do to try help!

Spotlight Sunday: Send in new, low kudos and under appreciated fics

Hello all!

For anyone who doesn't know how this activity works yet, let me explain.

I want you, the members of the community, to send in any-

New fic you have found (maybe fics that were published within the last month)

Low kudo fic (this is subjective, but I think 150-200 kudos at most, but I'm not that fussed, only A03 has kudos after all, other sites have likes which is the same idea)

Also, please send in your underappreciated favourite fics. I am talking about the fics that never get mentioned and never get recommended for any post you see on Reddit/Discord, etc.- the real gems that go unnoticed by this side of the community.

Tell us what you liked and include a link.

My only hard rule is that you can't share the big fics in the fandom. This type of post is for the little guys who don't get the attention and praise they deserve. We want to change that. So please don't send in stuff like The Weirwood Queen, The Dragon Cub, or any other high-profile fic.

Let's get the ball rolling!

"Would you read this fic?"- Monthly thread

Well, it appears this topic is definitely popular enough to keep going, if we don't get loads of responses, that's okay, people can pop back when they feel like it.

I'm sure most of the authors amongst us have been there. An idea pops up and you're just wondering, would there be an audience for this?

Maybe after all these years, you are still wondering if there's people out there who still want to read a tech uplift or a niche crossover idea, or simply Jon as King.

Well, ultimately I think you should write your work anyway, but it's nice to know in advance that there is people there who may be looking forward to the idea being published.

So this is what I want ye to do:

Tell us your fic idea and the ships you are planning on having in it (if they play a part).

Then those who are actually interested in whatever the idea is, can reply.

This thread is being used as a way to hopefully encourage authors to write, to show that their is a base out there who would be willing to give the fic a go.

You are more than welcome to ask questions, either as the author if you are unsure on a path to take, or as a reader if you have taken a liking to the idea but just want some extra info, as a way to brainstorm and encourage the authors.

What this is NOT a thread for, is to complain that writers aren't writing exactly as you want, meaning, if the person is posting that they want to write a Jon as King fic and you just don't read Jon as King fics, then do not bother responding to their comment.

Same idea goes for the shipping aspect. If the author says they are writing it as Daemyra fic, or Alicent/Rhaenyra, or Jonerys or whatever the situation is, if that is not something you would like to read, just do not bother responding to their comment.

Also, please remember that if for some reason you don't get any responses, that doesn't mean no one cares, this is just a niche activity from a niche part of the internet and the opinions are limited.

The point is to hopefully make a productive environment and push those on the line to take the plunge and post their fic.

Focus Friday-Writing realistic religious conflicts

Hello all,

This time around, I want to give you the chance to brainstorm ideas on how to write realistic religious conflicts within asoiaf.

Obviously a lot of the stuff is going to be taken from history, so I really look forward to potentially getting some detailed answered full to the brim with historical references.

So, how would you depict realistic religious conflicts in a fic, what does that look like to you?

Tell us below,

Also, if you have any fics you found that depict religious conflicts well, link them below for the class

Another two tier pricing system has hit the market

Welcome to the club, centra.

This is just one example, there was something about coffee as well but besides that it seems they're just launching.

That said, I live in rural Ireland, if this has been around for awhile, please correct me.

QOTW- If you could bring one food or drink into Asoiaf, what would it be and why?

Let's say the item can just regenerate itself at least to some extent

There's two trains of thought to this, how I see it.

Something wacky like modern Alcohol, or modern day chocolate or something basic like a root vegetable.

What would you bring and why? Logistics being waved.

r/AsoiafFanfiction Mod recruitment

Hey all!

the r/AsoiafFanfiction mod team is now opening applications to anyone who wants to become moderator and wishes to apply.

We would urge anyone who is or has been relatively active here and wishes to contribute to the goings on in the background, to put in an application, however we must make it clear that this is not something that has an end point.

Meaning the applications will remain open for the foreseeable future, so there is plenty of time to decide and even if you are seeing this in 6 months time, you can still apply.

We are doing this in the hopes of finding the right candidate(s), someone who understands this community and wants to see it improve and thrive for years to come, but we will never expect anyone to put the subreddit before their real life, just to make that clear.

So, if you agree with our rules, like the vibe we have set up here and want to see it thrive and maybe help with our activities or introduce new ones, or even contribute to the awards set up, you can apply below, whenever you feel like it.

We hope to find the right candidates and make further improvements to what the subreddit has to offer! It is important to get different perspectives on subjects that pop up and we want to expand our team partly for that reason.

You can apply via reddit via the link below, however a multi choice question is missing, it can be covered later in a 1 to 1 or you can just use the google forms link.

Reddit- https://www.reddit.com/r/AsoiafFanfiction/application/

Concrit Central- May 11th 2026

Hello all

The idea of this post is...

As an author, to copy and paste a couple of paragraphs for review by the community. Paragraphs you want feedback on. Alternatively,: your plot premise, or your character bio, or your world building, whatever you need help with.

The more you can tell us about your issue, the better we can help.

For those of you planning to respond, while a portion of this involves pointing out mistakes, the idea is to offer advice on how to fix them as well.

This thread is to be full of honesty, but we are looking to actively help each other improve. Be kind, but that goes for both sides. Give your take in good faith and try to take it in good faith as well.

The floor is yours.

Prompt Post: Send in prompts for different marriages

Hello!

For this week's prompts, we are looking for ideas regarding the concept of "different marriages", as in couples that could have happened, but didn't, or were never close to happening but might in another AU life with different circumstances, or maybe can happen when time travel gets involved.

Or anything like the above, you can just use this to talk about your OTP if you wish and can go into as much detail as you like for how the story may play out with these different marriages in mind.

Whatever it is, you can talk about it below, just please make sure to make it clear if you are going to use the idea yourself for a fic :)
