The Crow by Walking Dead Co-Creator Tony Moore
One of the original art pieces I have in my collection, this one created by The Walking Dead co-creator Tony Moore back in 2012 which he did in my hardcover sketchbook. At the time, during conventions, Tony would handle his commissions as a lottery. Each day of a convention he would do three commissions. The first 30 minutes of each day of the show, you would go to his table, request the character you want and he would put it on a list. After the 30 minutes, everyone who submitted their request had to show back up at his table. He would discuss with his wife which ones he would want to draw and they would announce the three names. Some people from what I had heard had been trying to get a piece from him done for several years, I lucked out big time on my first try.
He attended a big show here locally that I was an exhibitor at, and asked how the process worked. Both he and his wife were extremely kind and explained it all. I told him that I was a big fan of his work and of the Crow. He added my name to the list and said to return at 10:30am. A number of people had gathered, and I was thrilled to hear my name called. I handed him my sketchbook, told him as an exhibitor I would be around all three days, zero rush, and returned later in the day. He asked how I wanted it done, and I said just make him look look upset/angry. It was a jaw-dropping moment when I picked it up from him, price was only $200, but the next year, his commission rates for a piece like that went up to eight hundred dollars, not sure if they have increased since. I have had offers to sell it but have no desire to do so. I lucked out big time and is one of my favorites in my expanding collection of original artwork based on the character.
