I designed a dungeon with massive basalt columns for my browser tactics RPG — and I'm weirdly proud of it

Solo French dev, 1 month into Kylow.

I spent the week building this dungeon. Basalt columns, dark atmosphere, new mobs to fight inside. It's the first map where I really tried to lean into a *mood* rather than just functional combat space.

It's a browser turn-based tactics RPG (in browser, no install) — kylow.io if you want to walk through it yourself.

300 players in. Servers stayed up. Discord active. People came back for ranked.
Solo dev nights and weekends, this hits different. Thanks to everyone who tested and reported bugs — keep them coming.

Game Title: Kylow

Playable Link: https://kylow.io

Platform: Web (Browser)

Description: Kylow is a turn-based tactical RPG you play directly in your browser — no install, no account grind, queue into a fight in seconds. I built it because I love the combat depth of games like Dofus, Final Fantasy Tactics and Wakfu, but I wanted to skip the heavy MMO progression around it.

The game has three loops that share the same combat engine:

- Solo PvE: take on packs of mobs across the hub map and cemetery (38 different monsters)

- Co-op PvE: group up with other players to fight tougher packs together

- Ranked PvP: 1v1 ELO matchmaking, full ladder

Combat is on a 14x14 grid with initiative-based turns, 30 seconds per turn, and 5 classes (Warrior, Mage, Archer, Healer, Assassin) each with around 10 spells covering push, pull, AoE, traps, heals and buffs. Loot drops include 70+ items across 4 rarities with rolled stats and equipment sets, and there's a fully player-driven auction house (5% fee, no expiry).

There's also a social hub with chat, NPCs, and three leaderboards (ELO / Level / Gold).

I'd love any kind of feedback you have — bugs, balance, UX, the art, the

pitch itself, even "this idea is dead on arrival, here's why". Brutal

honesty welcome, that's why I'm here.

Hey everyone!

I’m working on Kylow.io, a browser-based tactical MMORPG built around turn-based combat.

The idea is simple: you can jump into the game directly from your browser, with no download required, on both desktop and mobile.

Kylow.io is inspired by classic tactical online RPGs, with a focus on:

  • turn-based strategic fights
  • character classes with different playstyles
  • progression, equipment and upgrades
  • an online world designed for quick sessions or longer play
  • accessibility: open the browser and play

The game is still evolving, and I’m currently looking for feedback from players who enjoy tactical RPGs, MMORPGs, or old-school browser games.

I’d love to hear what you think about the concept, the gameplay direction, and what features you’d expect from a modern browser-based tactical MMORPG.

Thanks for reading!

Description:
Kylow.io is a browser-based tactical MMORPG focused on turn-based combat, character progression, and accessible online play. The goal is to create a game that can be launched instantly from any browser, with no download required, on both desktop and mobile. Players can choose different character classes, each with its own playstyle, stats, and abilities, then progress through fights, equipment upgrades, and online features. The game is inspired by classic tactical RPGs and old-school browser MMORPGs, but designed to be simple to access and easy to test. I’m still actively improving the game, especially the mobile experience, balancing, UI, progression, and overall content. I’m sharing it here to get honest feedback from players who enjoy tactical combat, MMORPG systems, and browser games.
