I’m trying to process something intense that happened to me earlier this year and I’d really appreciate grounded perspectives.
I had a manic episode that peaked around March 1–16. I wasn’t sleeping or eating for days, and I was also abusing Adderall at the time.
During that period, I fully lost touch with reality.
I believed I was aligning with a blood moon and that I was some kind of “priestess of the moon.” My name is Bella Luna, so I thought that meant I was chosen for some kind of transformation or cosmic shift. I thought I had to perform rituals to “fix” the universe, and I ended up buying a bunch of food and scattering it around my apartment to “feed” spirits.
I thought my dead aunt was with me. I thought I saw the devil. I believed my ancestors were guiding me and that I might be the reincarnation of someone from my lineage. Music felt like messages—songs like “Shenandoah” and “Bella Ciao” felt like they were directly about me or calling me to action. I even thought I could influence the moon or the weather.
At the time, all of this felt completely real. Not metaphorically—literally real.
Now that I’m out of the episode, I can recognize that I was in a manic state with psychotic features, likely made much worse by stimulant abuse and lack of sleep.
Here’s where I’m struggling:
I recently saw a psychic medium who told me that I’m not bipolar, and that what I experienced was partly a “psychic opening.” They said I’m like a “baby psychic” who didn’t know how to control my abilities and was too open, which allowed negative energy or “evil” in.
Part of me wants to believe that because it makes the experience feel meaningful instead of just… scary and chaotic. But another part of me feels like that explanation is pulling me back toward the same mindset I was in during the episode.
Even now, I still sometimes feel like I might be a little psychic or intuitive in a way that’s more than normal, and I don’t know how to separate that feeling from what I went through.
So I guess my questions are:
Has anyone else had experiences like this during mania or stimulant-induced psychosis?
Is it normal for parts of those beliefs to linger afterward?
How do you ground yourself when something felt so real, even if you know logically it wasn’t?
Does the “psychic awakening” explanation help anyone, or is it something I should stay away from?
I’m trying to stay rooted in reality and take care of my mental health, but I’d be lying if I said the experience didn’t still feel powerful and confusing.
Thanks for reading.
Hello beautiful people. I’m here trying to understand my situation.
I am a 24 year old woman who recently went through a severe manic episode. March 1st I had an episode where I didn’t sleep or eat or drink water in days, was filled with euphoria and thought I was the priestess of the moon and connecting to the earth in a way no one else did. I was heavily abusing my adderall, eating 120mg a day and at points snorting it. I believe this induced my manic episode. So I’m at a point of not knowing if I have bipolar 1 or experienced adderall induced psychosis.
I checked myself into a hospital where I wasn’t in best behavior and they sent me to the state funded hospital. Where I was there for a month. They had me on a bunch of drugs so I was in a fuege type state half of it.
I’m on mood stabilizers but feel very depressed alone and confused. I wake up feeling sad and scared. I know either way from the adderall psychosis or bipolar psychosis it’s a come down but I don’t know which one it is that I experienced. I’m scared of western medicine hurting me again but everyone says I need to stay on medication so it doesn’t happen again.
I feel like I lost all my friends and sense of community last year. I keep looking back on my life feeling sad. I need help from others.
