The Official Pronunciation Confirmed by Nike
Nike chairman Phil Knight confirmed the brand should be pronounced 'Nikey' (rhymes with 'spiky'). He responded to fans in 2014 by circling the 'Ni-key' option on their letter.
The company has never endorsed the 'Nike' pronunciation that rhymes with 'bike'. Knight's reply settled the long-running debate for those who asked directly.
Do behaviours that are, in fact, demonstratively prejudice and racist, get a pass because they are considered “cultural norms?”
For example, a family member refuses to meet a new partner because of his or her race or religion.
I’ve recently learned that my partner is a product of inbreeding. We have been together for a few years now and have not only discussed marriage, but also having children. I consider him to be “my person.”
I’ve now learned that not only are his parents first cousins, but his grandparents also married first cousins. His brother married his first cousin, his sister married a cousin, so on and so forth.
I thought this was illegal. I googled it. It is not. It is not illegal to marry your cousin. The mere fact that I HAD TO LOOK UP WHETHER OR NOT ITS LEGAL TO MARRY YOUR FUCKING COUSIN has caused a great deal of anxiety. As you can imagine. I assume? Am I alone in thinking this is weird AF? The casual nature of the disclosure has raised questions as well. What if it hadn’t come up and I got pregnant? Doesn’t a person have a right to know if his or her partner has questionable genetic material?
I have the “ick.” I don’t know what to do. Am I in the wrong for feeling this way?
