Nationalism is the idea of uniting a large group of people around some common features in order to achieve certain goals. The combination of features that people unite around and the goals they seek to achieve constitutes the idea of a nation. A complete nation should have a state that provides administration over the nation on its way toward achieving its goals. The state should be democratic so that the nation can control the course its country is taking, rather than leaving this power to a small group of authoritarian elites who may freely rule contrary to the national goal.

For example, the classic combination underlying the idea of a nation in European countries is to unite around language, history, and culture and to achieve peaceful prosperity by developing the country and trading with its neighbours. However, the particular combination of features and goals may vary.

If an outsider likes the idea and wants to accept the national identity, this person should acquire the features that the nation unites around. When other members of the nation agree that the outsider has acquired enough of these unifying features, the person gains the right to participate in democracy and influence the direction in which the nation is going, while also taking on the duties of a citizen.

So, continuing with the same example, for a foreigner to become a member of one of the classic European nations, they would:

1. Have a desire to accept the idea of the nation;
2. Learn the language of the nation;
3. Learn the culture and traditions of the nation;
4. Learn the history of the nation, at least at the level of historical mythologems — simplified interpretations of history that make it easier for the wider population to understand;
5. Gain acceptance from the current members of the nation that the unifying criteria have been acquired;
6. Obtain citizenship, with its associated responsibilities and rights, including the right to contribute to the politics of the national state.

Newborns receive the same status if they are born into the nation, and as they grow up, their mentality is formed within it.

Since the French Revolution and the Spring of Nations, we have been living in a world where the key driving force is the nation-state. And those who want to become a driving force in international politics are trying to become, or imitate, nation-states.

So, nationalism has already proved its usefulness in practice as a way of uniting the efforts of large groups of people and motivating them to take action.

Is There Something to Be Afraid of Regarding Nationalism?

Well, yes. Nationalism is a tool, and its consequences depend on how people use it.

There are two main things to be afraid of:

First, there are dangers within nationalism itself. The problem may arise if the goal a nation seeks to achieve is aggressive. Furthermore, if the features that people are expected to unite around are impossible or unacceptable for part of society to acquire, this may lead to segregation, where the state's administration abandons certain groups, or, in the worst cases, to ethnic cleansing. You may notice that in my example, the goal is peaceful prosperity, while the features people unite around are mainly cultural and relatively easy to acquire regardless of biological characteristics such as skin colour or skull shape.

Second, nationalism may transform into fascism. By definition, nationalism should be democratic and based on voluntary acceptance. If there is authoritarianism without fair elections, if nationalism is imposed by force (a person's goals are not allowed to differ from the goals of the nation, and the unifying features are imposed), and if it becomes radical (the goals of the nation are placed above the goals of the individual), then it ceases to be nationalism and becomes a starting point for fascism.

The only distinction that needs to be made here is defensive wartime. During a war, elections may be physically impossible to conduct, and citizens who have enjoyed the achievements and rights provided by the nation may be required to fulfil their duty to defend it.

Have you noticed that this definition of nationalism as "uniting and achieving goals" sounds somewhat like a left-wing idea? But why, then, is nationalism generally considered a right-wing idea?

В його останньому повідомленні видно, що після прижаття до стінки чи то в ШІ контекст розмови поплавився, чи то співробітник ще не досвідчений. На що я прямо це зауважив.

Акаунт так і не повернувся до розмови про порівняння шкоди й допомоги Поляків по фактам.

Я з рефлексами досвідченого учасниках інтернет-срачових дій в ту ж хвилину клікнув на співщення, а потім клікнув "Відповісти", а вже все - акаунт який хвилину назад палко дискутував про політику вже був повністю видалений.

I don't want to pay for built-in models in GitHub Copilot. Is it possible to add models from my Anthropic Subscription or a self-hosted model? From what I found, it possible to use "Bring Your Own Key" in the Copilot extension for VS Code. And it is possible to use "Bring Your Own Key" in Visual Studio 2026 Enterprise. But I want to be sure whether there really no way to add my model into Copilot in VS Community?

I'm using GitHub Copilot in the Visual Studio 2026 UI for C# development. It's so unstable shit in a technical meaning, not LLM output. The session may break in the middle of plan execution. And I have to spend time and tokens to set up a new session with additional explanation on where to continue. I don't understand how is this a paid product when it is so unreliable, and Microsoft is daring to raise prices.

UPD: for illustration. Today I wanted to vibe code a few integration tests and this crap died 2 times in the middle of work.

UPD: адмін пообіцяв змінити мапу в своєму застосунку за результатами опитування . Хз наскільки йому можна вірити після всіх його спроб залишити Крим в корданих Росії і з фактом того, що це його застосунок, але спроба зроблена.

UPD2: Адмін збрехав. Спочатку заблокуваа мені можливість коментувати коли я пояснював людям важливість. Потім просто видалив моє останнє опитування де однозначно перемагав варіант з Крим лише в кордонах України без інших варіантів.

В популярному сабі geopoll Крим зображається російським. Пости з того сабу також часто перепощують в інші саби, тож мапа з російським Кримом потрапляє на очі багатьом людям.

Я місяць тому написав адміну. Він сказав, що все розуміє, додаток робив поспіхом для конкурсу і взяв першу мапу, яку знайшов в інтернеті. Пообіцяв виправити.

Вчора написав, що він виправив мапу. При наведенні на Росію Крим все ще підсвічується як приналежний їй. Із нового лише додалося, що при наведенні на Крим він підсвічується як спірний.

Я знов написав адміну пояснення. Він в цей раз впирався в маячню про de facto, хоча його мапа зображає кордони національних держав які є de jure. Але згодився виправити ще раз.

Але знов виправ не повністю. Тепер при підсвічуванні України Крим також підсвічується в кордонах. Але в кордонах Росії він все ще підсвічується також і помітка спірності теж залишилися.

Коли я продовжив розмову, то тут вже почалися відбріхування. Що він, бачте, інші якісь місця теж помічає спірними, хоч основний сенс інформації на його мапі — це кордони національних держав і він вписує Крим в кордони Росії порушуючи їх. Потім написав, що він в якомусь іншому сабі, а не в своєму, робив опитування, то там люди захотіли, щоб у Крима був статус-кво, хоча в його ж сабі geopoll було якраз опитування за те, щоб маркувати Крим в міжнародно визнаних кордонах України і не маркувати в кордонах Росії де більшість була за. Але під час нашої розмови він цей пост видалив, пояснивши, що таких постів дуже багато, а подібне опитування вже є. Хоча опитувань про прибирання статуса кво і російськості Криму після оновлень більше не було, було лише про те, щоб показувати Крим українським, яке адмін формально виконав, але все ще маркує як російський і спірний.

Чи є якийсь спосіб поскаржитися на весь саб як такий, що розповсюджує пропаганду агресора і підтримує порушення міжнародного права? Бо всі кнопки, які я знойшов, відсилають лише в приватні повідомлення до адміна.

People lost faith in a righteous lifestyle and, for various reasons, decided to reject their humanity to find happiness in another way that they think is more natural, but eventually they simply turned into disgusting monsters that are almost animals. It beautifully reflects the present, where Westerners try to flirt with outright evil like Russians and pseudo-right-wing populists who support them because they mistakenly think that this path will somehow lead to a better life than the one they have.

In settings of power button gestures I set up to open ai agent. But this gesture always opens the camera no matter what I'm setting up.

When I'm sending a ticket I immediately receive a notification "check result". But when I open notification it shows dialogue to send a new ticket. The issue that I sent about half a year ago is still without an answer.
