Males in L&D ??

Reddit Post

I’m a 22-year-old male currently in surgical tech school with about 3 months left until graduation. I’m interested in working in Labor & Delivery because I have friends and family who are surgical techs in L&D, and they’ve told me it’s a pretty chill environment with good pay. I’m also planning on going to nursing school, so I’m hoping to find a specialty that isn’t extremely stressful while I’m balancing school. For any male scrub techs working in L&D, what has your experience been like, and is it difficult for men to get hired in that area?

recovery

Is it smart to go back to work 9 days post op or even 2 weeks. For reference im 22 in school and i have a little part time resturant job. The job isnt super physically demanding but there are things that require me to lift and carry that are a bit heavy. I hate not making money but i dont want to ruin my recovery process.

Double jaw candidate

Am I a good candidate for a double jaw , not only can I not sleep well , have breathing issues when I sleep and have a narrow palate . I genuinely hate my side profile it’s weak and recessed. How do I start this process 22m

Need advice

Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice on what procedure route would be best for my situation. I believe my two options are either double jaw surgery with a sliding genioplasty to address possible sleep apnea, airway issues, recessed jaw appearance, and chin projection, or a sliding genioplasty combined with MARPE to expand my palate, improve tongue space, and potentially help with breathing and sleep. I’ve read that a genioplasty may help with chin projection and soft tissue under the neck, while MARPE may improve palate width and airway function, but I’m unsure which option would be more appropriate. The first picture is me without focusing on tongue posture, and the third picture is me with my tongue resting on the roof of my mouth.

Career advice

I’m looking for some advice because I feel like I’m at a crossroads.
I’m currently in surgical tech school and have about 4–5 months of clinicals left before graduating. The problem is that after being in clinicals, I’ve realized I don’t think I want to work as a scrub tech long-term.
Because of that, I just enrolled at my local community college to start my nursing prerequisites. I have about a year of prereqs to complete, and I’m taking a heavier course load to finish as quickly as possible since the ADN nursing program starts in August 2027.
My question is: what would you do in my situation?
Would you:
Finish surgical tech school, get certified, and work as a scrub tech until nursing school starts?
Finish surgical tech school but not work as a scrub tech and instead focus on school or another job?
Or do something completely different?
Part of me feels like I should finish because I’m so close, but another part of me knows I don’t see scrub tech as my long-term career.
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has switched from surgical tech to nursing or been in a similar situation. What worked out best for you, and is there anything you’d do differently?

Best surgeon ?

I’m looking for recommendations on the best oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the U.S. for double jaw surgery (with a possible sliding genioplasty), with a strong focus on both functional and aesthetic outcomes. I’ve attached photos of my face, skull X-rays, a CBCT scan, and palate pictures—I’d really appreciate any opinions on whether DJS seems appropriate and which surgeons you’d personally trust. If you’ve had surgery yourself, I’d love to hear who you went to, your experience, and whether you’d recommend them.
