North Red Rock Road tonight and last night

What a wonderful feeling to see the sun set under blue skies again!

The air is fairly clear and cool in this part of Rancho Haven. Just a hint of smoky smell lingers in the air.

I came through the South checkpoint about 5pm, and at that time the North end was closed at Quarterhorse.

Thank you everyone for working together in so many ways, from fighting the firestorm to saving the animals to making sure our homes stayed secure while we were away. Love to you all♥️

I pray for courage Now I’m old To greet the sickness And the cold I pray for courage In the night To bear the burden Make it light I pray for courage In the time When suffering comes and Starts to climb I pray for courage At the end To see death coming As a friend. Leonard Cohen

Prismatic clouds in a bright blue sky

Looking east about noon today, Red Rock Rd / Dry Valley area. Thought it was my polarizing shades until I doffed them and saw it even brighter.

Update: I had originally done (what turned out to be) a cursory web search and decided this phenomenon was "cloud iridescence."

And then a kind stranger, r/Astromike23 set me on the right path:

"This is not cloud iridescence, but something far more rare: a circumhorizontal arc. Nice catch!

It can only occur when the Sun is very high in the sky, and you've got plate-oriented ice crystals."

And I appreciate the correction, and also knowing it was an even rarer sight!

"Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.

Never Forget

It used to be you could go to a special place in the heart of Reno, and commune with a special, mysterious being.

Until one day recently, when the special, mysterious being left the special place in the heart of our fair city.

I feel bereft.

I never got to say goodbye.

But I will Always Remember.

Need referrals for licensed and bonded roofing contractor

Modular home. Roof is 26+ years old. In some areas shingles are curling. We have been gluing the bad spots down, and have no leaks.

Out of the blue, our home insurance company told us they were coming by to inspect our roof, and take pictures.

The follow-up message we got insists we replace (rather than repair,) entire roof by October or face non- renewal of our policy.

We have asked our agent to recommend three roofers, so we can get estimates. It's been some time since we asked, and no reply.

So we reach out to you, our neighbors, to give us some guidance. Who do you know that does a good job at reasonable rates?

Thanks for your help and insight.

The only person I write for is guiding my hand.

The only person I write for is guiding my hand.

My writing has to grab me, has to interest me, has to keep me curious as to what's going to happen next.

I am not seeking to please an audience; I am seeking satisfaction from what I write.

That's why I keep writing.

Why do you keep writing?

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. -Nietzsche

Peavines Snow-Patch Report: Two are gone; The Largest Patch Remains.

Just as people have been saying, there are years this particular patch persists.

And though the two smaller ones are gone, does this mean it's safe to plant tomatoes?

And yet, and yet: What if it's Not A Snow Patch after all?

What if it's a captive flock of Giant Sierra Mountain Sheep, munching, living and loving in that one comfy spot, their wooly white coats glistening in the sun?

Yes, I admit it's a wild notion.

What's yours?
