Treeing and guarding MC
I’ve been working and camping in the mountains in Colorado. I take my MC Julio with me and I must say it’s not by mistake they are called Mountain Curs. He is so tuned in, he lets me know when anyone is around or any animal is around. He shows me which trees the turkeys are roosting in. He is constantly treeing squirrels and he has treed bears twice. Both times he was running the mama bear off and in the process he treed a cub. On one of the first nights up here I had not pitched a tent yet and was sleeping in my work van when At 2:00 am a bear opened the sliding door and Julio met the bear face to face with his howling bear bark. He commenced to chasing the bear all over the mountain side far a half an hour. He’s dug bathtub shaped nests all around the perimeter and prefers to sleep outside so he can guard the campsite. He has a different bark for cats and bears and squirrels and turkeys. His nose and the speed he track is unlike any other dog breed I’ve seen hunting. He’s about 8 years old now and shows very little signs of slowing down. His vertical jump is not as it used to be but he can still easily do over ten miles of running in the morning and his guard duties has him running in 15-30 minute high speed chases at night. I’m getting older an I hope to have to energy to have one more mc in my lifetime.
