Storage and starting to rip.

Hello, I am about to start ripping disks onto a harddrive. I am going to set it up so I can hook up the hard drive to an Xbox and use its media player app. I think that works at least. I have very little idea on how most of it works so I have a few questions:

  1. Some movies have menus, am I atill going to be able to access those menus as if I am running the file?

  2. Can I even do it directly through my xbox?

  3. What type of hard drive would I need?

  4. How much would the movies compress to lossless?

  5. What type of disc reader am I looking for?

  6. Do you have any tips?

Why do people digitalize CDs when streaming apps exist?

Pretty much what the title is. I am digitalizing my family's movies and I know a ton of them aren't on streaming services but we also have a ton of CDs. Is it worth it to digitalize them? We have a family youtube plan so its not like we get ads on yt music anyways. Sorry I am not into music at all so this is probably a dumb question. A bunch of the CDs that we have in storage are probably from when my mom was younger in like the 90s or 2000s.

Ripping dvds/blu-rays/cds.

Hey, my family has been meaning to rip all of our movies for years now. I hope this is the right place, but is there a recommended setup for this? At least in the software department. And feel free to give me any suggestions about ripping in general, my family owns a ton of dvds and cds.

Registration status.

I have the class as web-registered, does that mean I am in the class? Just making sure I am in the class and not like wait listed or anything.

Learning

The only time I ever learned how to type was in elementary school. They put us on typing club for a short time everyday and then never again. Anytime I was on my Chromebook it was doing homework, not learning skills like typing. Entering into the job field now I realize I missed so much that I need to learn. I can't type without looking at my keyboard often, finding the keys that I need is a problem and I miss the key I want many times. So, how do I start being able to actually type well? Starting on typing club right after I send this please let me know if it is a good resource.

Entering into the field

A lot of jobs for computer science will require a degree as they should, but besides internships can you enter into the field before you graduate? Of course no company will hire some guy who just graduated high school to make software. But companies can hire data entry for example that is at least some experience for data science roles.

Jobs As A Recent High School Grad

I have been using indeed but it is never popping up jobs I can actually get to, whats a good website to use? Most jobs in my area are taken up by people recomended by families so it might even be my best option to look for remote opportunities. If anyone knows anything or has any tips thay would be greatly appreciated.

SAI

So my SAI is 13k which means I should be able to afford college? Neither of my parents have money to give towards college and I have a really hard time finding jobs in town because I don't have a car. Is there something I should do?

2 or 3 years at community college?

Currently I am planning my journey in cc and I ran into a block: If I plan to transfer in 2 years I will have a schedule that will be very hard probably. However if I graduate in 3 I have 4 partial quarters(~10 units remaining) I need to fill.

So what should I do? I am attending De Anza and they have plenty of extra CS classes I can take if 3 years seems better, downside is my math sequence would be done a year before transfer.

Manning?

Is manning.com a good resource for computer science principles? My dad has a subscription that gets shared with me but I don't want him wasting money on something I am never going to use. I just got out of high school and I am trying to self study programming alongside my computer science degree. Bonus, if manning is good, what are some good books on there?

Learning/studying

In an effort to cut down screen time I am here to ask if there are any good resources for studying math. Like those multiplication worksheets the teachers would make you do as a kid but specifically for math I would need for computer science and finance math like actuarial science. Going into college and I want to either pursue some computer science career or actuarial science.

I hope this is a good place to ask, thank you.

Backend

I have started the Odin Project and wanted to plan a little bit of my journey, while digging through the rabbit hole of what backend to learn it came across to use .net repeatedly. TOP only has ruby and JS I think so I was wondering if it is better to learn the backend elsewhere or learn from TOP and learn other backend frameworks later.

Extra question: "backend", "back end", or "back-end"?

Backend for Web Development

What is the most used backend for web development? I was seeing a lot of different things like js, python, and java mainly. I also saw php which I thought was considered "dead." I dont want to waste my time with something I will never use.

Microsoft apps

What does it mean to be "proficient" in microsoft apps like powerpoint, word, excel, etc? Is there a course or testwork for this as well?

Cobol

Is cobol still used a ton, going into school right now and Im trying to be some computer science or possible actuarial science or adjacent. Cobol seemed like a good language to pick up along with things like sql, R, and Python because they are useful in both jobs.

Im not sure if this subreddit is a good place to ask, I am about to join SCC this fall semester as a freshman. I am majoring in computer science and might wnd up switching to a speciality later. What colleges should I plan on transferring to? My original intention was UC Davis but I was hearing many negatives.

Multiple Community Colleges

Hello I am enrolling into Sacremento City College and I do not currently have a car. My first thought was to try to get online classes and maybe figure out labs later but math does not have any online classes. I figured De Anza would have some and they do, can I enroll in both community colleges at the same time?
