Slate in San Francisco (Alameda, really) next weekend 8/22, 8/23 - cost: $25

This is some new skateboard to automotive and every transportation device in between show. Test drives for some vehicles are part of the deal, as I understand it. I doubt that includes Slate

It seems to have loads of things I have little interest in from what I can tell. Maybe a few intriguing things, but I’m not so sure I want to pay $25 plus probably parking. Slate is supposed to be there, which I’d certainly like to see in the flesh, as it were.

Just passing this on fwiw.

Test for SanDisk high endurance?

I just got two high endurance microsd cards from B&H Photo. I’m 3 for 3 in getting counterfeits of this same card from Amazon, so I’m hoping these are legit, direct from B&H, not third party, supposedly.

I’ve used F3 (Mac) to test the capacities of other cards, but I’m assuming there’s no other test I can perform to verify these are real endurance cards. is that all I can do?

Flashing garage side door

I’m installing a cheapie prehung door in the side of a 100 year old garage. The walls are redwood T&G over redwood studs. Nothing else. ~14” eaves. I’ll need to cut the sill plate, which will reveal a rough perimeter foundation that’s far from level.

How would you level it out and create a drainage and flash it so the extruded aluminum threshold sits on top? Wire cup brush the concrete surface, bond coat, mortar a level but pitched surface, then a plastic flashing kit for the bottom, and peel and stick above that?

Removing excess soil around trunk

Mother in law’s avocado, about 6” dbh.
I think the paver guys had extra stones and must’ve compacted them down with a machine, cuz they were tight.

I removed a ring around it, including the double stacked course. We made a weak attempt at washing the excess soil off with the garden hose, but no progress due to all the small roots holding it together. We had to rush off, so I threw down some scrounged redwood duff as mulch in the meantime.

I plan to snip off the shoots and make another attempt at removing the soil up against the trunk next time. Do you have any tips on how to do that without too much damage? Or can I just let it dry out and the roots will eventually die and let the soil fall away? the mulch against the trunk is like 1/2” deep. I’m assuming I’m doing the right thing here.

[San Leandro] I-580 W street racing, ~105 mph

No audio track.

5/8/2026. My dashcam GPS had me at 68-69 mph. 2023 Tesla model 3 (9FELT42) took between 8 and 9 frames at 30 fps to pass a point on my screen. Model 3 is 185 inches long, meaning 35-39 mph faster than I was going = 103 - 108 mph. The 2018 BMW M4 (9USW438) may have actually hit my front bumper as it passed, as I heard a sound and found a minor scratch on my bumper that looked like maybe clear coat rubbing on clear coat.
