Megathread: Weird or garbled story generations

We've seen the posts about story generations reading strangely over the last day, and we're collecting details in one place so nothing gets lost across separate threads. If this happened to you, please reply here.

The most useful thing you can include is your story code. That lets us look at the exact generation instead of guessing.

Please answer whatever you can:

  1. Story code for the chapter that came out wrong
  2. Story code for a chapter from before this started that read normally, if you have one
  3. Date and rough time it was generated, and your timezone
  4. Which writer you had selected: Auto, Standard, Ember, or Ink
  5. Whether switching to a different writer made any difference
  6. Was every chapter affected, or only some of them
  7. One story or multiple stories
  8. Roughly how long the story is, and whether it uses a lorebook or components
  9. Device and browser, and whether you were on the app or the website
  10. When you first noticed it, and whether it's still happening now

Two things we've seen described that may be separate, so please say which one matches you:

A. The writing is grammatically fine but the words don't add up. Wrong words, sentences that contradict themselves, names appearing that aren't in your story.

B. The writing reads normally but ignores things you'd established. Wrong weather, wrong location, details from your components or lorebook not showing up.

If both, say both.

Thanks for the reports and the story codes already posted. Keep them coming in this thread.

Help Us Improve AI Prompt Following

Hi everyone! We've been seeing a number of reports that the AI isn't consistently following instructions or prompts, and we know how frustrating that can be, especially when it results in wasted Quills or Advanced Writes.

We're actively collecting examples to better understand where things are going wrong. If you've experienced this, we'd really appreciate it if you could share the details below.

Please include:

  • A link to the story
  • The chapter where the issue occurred
  • The prompt or instructions you gave the AI (if they weren't already in the chapter prompt)
  • What you expected the AI to do
  • What the AI actually did instead

The more specific your example is, the easier it is for the team to identify patterns and improve the model's instruction following.

If you've had multiple examples, feel free to post them all in the comments. Even if someone has already reported a similar issue, additional examples are incredibly helpful.

If you're not comfortable sharing your story or prompts publicly, you're welcome to send the details to us via Modmail instead or via email at support@redquill.net. We'll make sure your report gets passed along to the team.

Thank you for taking the time to help us improve RedQuill. We genuinely appreciate your feedback, and every report helps us identify patterns and make the AI better.

Chapter Generation Issues: We're On It (please share details here)

Hey everyone,

We know some of you have been running into chapter generation problems lately, failed generations, needing to hit "Retry for Free" repeatedly, or chapters coming out as one giant block of text. We hear you, and we're sorry for the frustration. The team is actively working on stability fixes, and a couple already shipped.

To help us track down what's still broken, we're consolidating reports here instead of replying on every post. If you're hitting issues, please drop a comment with as much of the following as you can:

What's happening? (generation fails, infinite "Retry for Free," one giant paragraph, partial chapter, something else)

How often? (every time, intermittent, only on certain stories)

When did it start? (rough date/time, and your time zone)

What you were trying to do when it happened

Chapter length you're using (Standard, Novella, Novel)

Device and browser (and whether you've tried another one)

Your Share Code (the chapter code is the most helpful for these issues)

About Share Codes: A Share Code points us to your specific account, story, or chapter so we can investigate, without making any of it public. To grab a Chapter Code: browse to the chapter that's giving you trouble, click the white edit-pencil icon to the right of the story title, scroll to the bottom, and copy the code.

More details here: https://www.reddit.com/r/redquill/comments/1twckzq/new_feature_share_codes_share_your_story_with_us/

If you'd rather not post publicly, send us a DM with your Share Code instead. Thanks for your patience and for helping us make RedQuill better.
