I snuck a love note onto SES-8

I’m on TikTok (like half the planet), and a prompt came up asking what the most romantic thing I’d ever done for someone was.

I don’t know why, but for the first time, I told the abridged version of a story I’ve never shared publicly.

Back in 2013, while I was working at SpaceX, I used company equipment to sneak a declaration of my affection into the assembly of SES-8. After a couple of launch delays, it finally lifted off on December 3, 2013, and was placed into geostationary orbit roughly 22,000 miles above Earth—where it remains to this day.

It’s probably the most ridiculous, over-the-top, hopelessly romantic thing I’ve ever done, and more than a decade later, it’s still holding its orbit.

1 week later

So it’s been a week since the release of this omnibus and I’m curious has anyone heard anything about the unsold copies being recalled or the cover reprinted? Or do y’all think that they’re just gonna leave it like this and move on and pretend like it didn’t happen?

I started a tiktok series about Kevin Keller

Hey group! My name is Tim but I go by TRAPTOFICIAL on TikTok. I recently started a new page where I deep dive into my favorite comics & I wanted to share the 1st episode with you all because it’s the launch pad for my deep dive into Kevin Keller’s debut in Veronica 202, his 1st mini-series, & his future as I end on Life of Archie 36&37.

I hope I’m allowed to share the link with anyone who wants to watch in the comments.

Call me Riley Reid because I am so close to finishing.

I won’t pretend to understand the method behind your madness. That’s your collection. But I’ll let you in on mine.

Now that I’ve completed Marvel’s 1960s Retrospective Omnibus collection, I’ve turned my attention to something I’ve wanted to build for a long time: the original Marvel Years line.

So far I’ve managed to track down Godzilla Omnibus, Planet of the Apes Omnibus, all three volumes of ROM: The Original Marvel Years, Star Wars: Droids & Ewoks Omnibus, the UK collection, and I’ll be first in line for the newspaper strips omnibus when it releases next month.

The one glaring hole is the same one staring back at a lot of collectors: Star Wars: The Original Marvel Years Vol. 1.

But I’m beyond stoked to say that through equal parts thrift shopping, Facebook Marketplace luck, and bargain hunting, I was able to pick up Volumes 2 and 3 for under $100 each.

I’m still hunting for Volume 1.

But again… which one of us isn’t?

shooting a new project

I wrote 13 pages revealing the best marvel stories written by Stanley omnibus and I’m now trying to memorize them all because I think there’s something bigger here.

collection complete!

After months of hunting, I finally tracked down a clean copy of August 1961 at a fair price. Honestly, this whole retrospective omnibus series has become my favorite set to collect.

There is one odd thing though—every dust jacket in the run is printed on matte paper except June 1962, which randomly switches to glossy. It sticks out like a sore thumb once you notice it.

worst spine logo?

I know it’s a matter of opinion but for me personally THE BEST MARVEL STORIES by STAN LEE is my last favorite spine title. Even the all black with basic white text hit me harder than this.

are you there god? it’s me, fandom

Nickel in the well, genie in a bottle, prayers finally answered — however you get yourself there — my question is this:

If the stars aligned just right, and you alone got to choose one character, one forgotten run, or one dream collection to finally be brought back into the world… what would you pick? Major character. Minor character. Weird licensed book. Doesn’t matter.

For me, I think I’ve got three absolute dream collections.

First: I would LOVE a complete collection of all the Marvel Comics and Nickelodeon NickToons adaptations.
The Ren & Stimpy Show, Rugrats, and especially Count Duckula.

Second: give me ALL the Marvel MTV comics.
Especially Beavis and Butt-Head. Those books had such a weird chaotic energy that you just don’t really see anymore.

And lastly, more than anything, I want the complete Not Brand Echh collected properly.

Because honestly… I miss when the bullpen wasn’t afraid to point the finger at itself back when comics still felt a little messy. A little self-aware. Like the people making them were actually allowed to be funny.

But that’s all me, & now I’m curious:

What’s YOUR impossible dream collection?

made it into Graham Crackers just before they closed & picked up this gem I’ve been eyeing. Just now flipping through it on the train & I’m loving the art so far.
