The clinic where I go for addiction and recovery support wants to publish my story in their yearly printed publication.

Last month I was chosen out of thousands of clients to participate in a short video testimonial that was posted on their company website and social media accounts. The corporate office was so moved by my recovery story that i told in the video, they offered me the opportunity to have my full length addiction and recovery story published in their yearly printed publication. I am really proud of everything I've achieved in recovery and its nice to be recognized for it. I have 5 years sober from heroin.Im a single mom and 9 months ago I had major surgery to remove pancreatic cancer. Over a year ago I left a long term abusive relationship with my daughters father. For the past year ive been fighting to protect my young daughter in court because her father continues to relapse and make bad decisions. Fighting a court battle while recovering from major surgery was a challenge. Staying sober after starting my life over as a single mother with no money or resources was a challenge. Receiving a cancer diagnosis during this difficult transition was a challenge. But I got through everything with my sobriety intact. If anyone reading this is struggling with addiction I offer you my support and my friendship. Please feel free to reach out if you need to talk. Recovery is possible.

A proud moment in recovery i wanted to share with everyone

Hello everyone, Meg here! Im a 35 year old single mom with 5 years of sobriety. In active addiction i overdosed 7 times requiring life saving narcan and lengthy hospitilizations. I also contracted Hepatitis C and a serious case of sepsis that almost killed me. 8 months ago i finally left a 12 year relationship where i was physically and emotionally abused. The physical abuse included two instances of strangulation that could have ended my life. The last straw for me was my ex relapsing and using drugs in our home while our 1 year old daughter was present. That kind of enviroment was no longer safe for me or my daughter and i wish i had left sooner. I had left some months earlier after my ex strangled me while i was holding our infant daughter but after several months of couples therapy and him being sober i went back. So i gave him one more chance. However, after the relapse and finding out he had been using drugs for a month in our home with our toddler, i had to leave for good. The morning after leaving my ex, i had an endoscopy and biopsy that later diagnosed me with a rare form of pancreatic cancer. 6 months ago i underwent life changing surgery that cured me of that cancer. So considering everything ive endured, im quite fortunate to not only be alive but thriving as well! During this whole medical ordeal i also fought a battle for custody of my daughter. My life has certainly been a wild ride lately but im proud to say i maintained my sobriety through it all. I am learning to adapt to my new normal after surgery and am living a beautiful life together with my daughter. I am currently on methadone maintenance and have been for 8 years. When i went to my clinic for my monthly check in and medication pick up my counselor told me he has an opportunity i might be interested in. He said the clinic was asked to select a patient to tell their story on camera that would be posted on their website and social media pages. I was honored that they selected me as the best possible candidate. The clinic manager and senior staff came into the room and basically congratulated me on my strength and resilience in my recovery after all id been through. It really touched me. They said they couldn't think of a better client to inspire others. They also asked if I would be willing to be a guest speaker during IOP groups. I think these opportunities will be great for my own personal journey in recovery and my healing process.

35 year old single mom who just beat cancer and left an abusive 12 year relationship

Hi my name is Meg. I live in Connecticut in the USA. Im 35 and a single mom to a 2 year old girl. I recently left a 12 year relationship because my ex kept chosing drugs over his family. He was also physically abusive and i didnt want to raise my daughter in that kind of environment. Then shortly after I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. 3 months ago, I had a whipple procedure that rewires your digestive system with a few less parts. i went through so much all at the same time. Im slowly adjusting to what my life will be now. Im finally in a place where I can process everything thats happened. I could really use a friend. I dont get many opportunities to talk with adults or socialize.

Im 35 and survived 7 overdoses, cancer and violent domestic abuse..now im a struggling single mom with 4 years of sobriety.....people say im the strongest person they have ever met but im crumbling inside....

Like the title says ive been through alot. My depression has really hit with a vengeance since my surgery. I left my abusive partner back in December after they relapsed and used drugs around our daughter. They also strangled me while I held our child and told me they were going to have to kill me. Luckily they didnt kill me but a week after I left him I found out I had pancreatic cancer. Im now cancer free after a life changing surgery and adapting to my new normal has been challenging. I have managed to keep my sobriety through everything which im quite proud of. I am so self conscious of my surgical scars. I have 4 key hole scars and one continous scar running vertically down my entire abdomen and two holes from drains. I also lost over 60 lbs and none of my clothes fit me anymore. I cant work for awhile and money is really tight. Im trying to be the best mom I can be but im always tired. I have nobody to talk to other than my parents but I think they are sick of hearing me complain. They say I should be grateful for being alive. I am very grateful but sometimes people just need to vent.... I dont know how much longer I can go on feeling like this. Im miserable and I wake up every day with dread.
