Hi everyone, me and my partner are looking to move out in the next month and get closer to central London. We’ve spoken about how we plan on spitting rent and living expenses, but I’m curious what other couples tend to do. This is our first time renting together and London is very pricey! But fortunately we are very lucky which what we make. I’m on £40k while he earns just over £110k, and we’ve decided to pay as a proportion of what we earn (so I would be about 35% and he would pay the rest). I’m curious how other couples split their rent and living expenses, does this seem like a good plan to tackle rent in London?

Me 24/F and my boyfriend 24/M live together at my parents house. We’ve been together for a good four and a half years now, and he’s my first ever boyfriend. I was making lunch for us, frying eggs and sausages, when I asked him to toast the bread. I had to spend a good 10 minutes convincing him to help me before he agreed, but eventually he started toasting some bread for us. After a while he mentioned to me that the bread was stuck, and that he should shove a knife in to get it out. Half expecting he said this just to wind me up, I simply said “don’t do that. Just give it a light shake”.

I go back to frying the eggs and don’t think much of it. When I look to my left, my boyfriend is shoving a metal knife into the toaster, while it is still plugged in and turn on at the wall socket. In shock, I scream at him to stop, slap him on the arm, and ask what the fuck he is doing. I admit I proceeded to just yell for a good minute out of pure stress at seeing him do this, which I shouldn’t have done. He tells me he no longer wants lunch and walks away. I did really go off on him, more than I should have, but I just can’t believe that a grown man would do something that’s so commonly stupid. He was also aware how stupid this was, I knew because he was singling that “dumb ways to die” song which is what prompted me to look at what he was doing.

I really need some advice, there’s often times in our relationship like this where I yell at him for doing something dangerous/ stupid. I really try but I’m naturally angry, and given the situations he gets in I struggle to calm myself because in reality the situation requires me to react instantly! I know I need to go an apologise for how I spoke to him, but is there a way to do so that still says “you can’t stick a knife in the toaster and I don’t want to loose trust in your ability to function with basic things safely”? I do feel bad for how much I yelled, but I really need him to start looking after himself.

Hi everyone, me and my partner are looking to move closer to central this year. We’re currently based in Zone 6 in east London, but we ideally want to be within max 35 minutes of London Liverpool Street as we both work and study, so commuting takes a large chunk of our free time.

The huge issue we’re seeing is the crime rate. Ilford, barking, and Stratford would be ideal if there wasn’t so much anti-social behaviour. We also need to be within a 15 minute walk of a station which is a huge pain when looking. We did look at Canary Wharf but the prices are insane. Does anyone have any recommendations of places in east London closer to central, is Stratford as bad as everyone makes it out to be? We would also be willing to go towards north London but I’m not familiar with it at all.

I’m sitting SBR in less than two weeks, and honestly I’m not even close to a pass. I haven’t gotten over 30% in a mock yet. I’m not going to let it get to me, the pass rates aren’t that low for no reason, plus I know if I just carry on i’ll pass in December for sure. I’m curious though- what mark do you think you’ll get in the actual exam? I’m hoping to hit 40% so I don’t get kicked off my revision course 😂

I did post this yesterday but right after things escalated so i’ll delete and repost here to give full details:

About a month ago my mother got an aftershave delivered addressed to her in the post, company name was Kaleidoscope, and a quick search showed it was a legit company. She told me she didn’t have an account and 100% did not order this. I told her it was likely a scam considering the parcel looked beaten up and reused, but I couldn’t find anything for this specific company online being used to scam people. The invoice inside also had the return form ripped off, which I took as another sign this was not legit.

Yesterday a letter showed up from the same company now asking for payment,numbers and bank accounts on the letter appear to be legit and linked to the company which surprised me, but the main number in the body of the email got some very mixed search results, some saying to just pay they have an account ect. Others saying they don’t have an account and it’s a scam, some even claiming they called saying they were HMRC. I can see there is interest building on this account, but I’m confused because the payment details all appear to be legit?

I usually don’t feel swayed by scams, but this one has thrown me slightly. Has anyone received a letter addressed from Kaleidoscope before asking for an overdue payment? If it was me I wouldn’t care but my mother is clearly nervous and I want to make sure it’s not going to cause an issue for her. Many thanks

Edit: just spoke to customer service and asked what email was linked to “my” account, definitely not an email we’ve ever seen before!

Had a parcel from a legit company show up at my door. I didn’t order anything, the invoice inside matched the item that had been delivered (some expensive aftershave) but I noticed it looked slightly worn and the piece you rip off to write your reason for returning was removed. Called the company to ask and they said I had an account but the item had been paid for, no money has left any of my accounts.
Is this some type of scam? Is someone going to come knocking asking for money/ the parcel back?
