Pave Vintage Alhambra from Gavivi

I'm writing a review for the VCA pave Vintage Alhambra 18k gold and lab diamond pendant I just received today from Gavivi. This is my 3rd VCA Vintage Alhambra pendant; I also own a MOP from OpusAtelier and a black onyx from Andy Chan. I will be doing a comparison between the 3 on a different thread, but for now, I will just say that this one is my favorite of all of them!

Price: $1050 + 5% insurance (refundable) Full disclosure: I will get my 5% insurance fee refunded for writing a review; however, this opinion is fully truthful.

Timeline:

6/14: Asked for price quote
6/15 Made 30% deposit
6/27: PSPs sent and I approved
6/29: Shipped
7/2: Received!

I know there are some people on here who are skeptical of the Gavivi reviews. It does seem like he is popping up pretty often lately, as I think more of us are trying him. I have made my post history public, so feel free to look through my previous posts, because I'm not a plant or shill. I own other pieces from MissChen (small Love w/ 6 diamonds), AC (onyx vintage Alhambra), Funny (Mini Frivole bracelet and pendant), Gavivi (sweet onyx earrings) and OpusAtelier (MOP vintage Alhambra + 2016 holiday pendant). However, Gavivi will likely be my primary TS moving forward. I appreciate that he accepts PayPal; he has great communication, pricing is fair, though I wish it were a bit lower; shipping is lightning fast and included in the price; insurance is fully refundable.

I'm very impressed with the lab diamonds on this piece - they are very sparkly! The necklace feels high quality (higher than my other two, actually). Overall just very happy with it!

Vintage Alhambras from Gavivi, Opus, and Andy Chan

I wanted to do a quick comparison between 3 VCA Vintage Alhambra single-motif necklaces made by 3 different sellers. I have not had a chance to handle an auth, so keep that in mind, as I'm not sure which is more accurate.

White MOP by OpusAtelier
Black Onyx by Andy Chan
Pave Lab Diamonds by Gavivi

First, let me say that I love all 3 of these necklaces; there isn't a "dud," per se, among them. However, there are some differences between each maker.

Chains: All 3 chains are sparkly and well-made, but Gavivi's feels higher-quality and slightly thicker/heavier than the other two. Using precision calipers, the OpusAtelier and AC chains measure 1.32-1.33mm at the thickest, whereas Gavivi's measures 1.45mm at its thickest. It's a subtle but real difference you can see and feel in-hand. When I weigh them on my gram scale, being very careful to put all of the chain on the scale, but holding the motif in my hand (therefore trying to weigh only the chain part of each necklace), Gavivi's weighs more. The MOP chain weighs 3.2g, the onyx weighs 3.3g, and the pave weighs 3.5g. In the chain close-up pic, Gavivi's is the thicker one on the left. I don't know whether the auths use 1.33mm or 1.45mm. It's also possible that the auth diamond pave just has a thicker chain than the auth MOP/onyx but I would need someone more familiar with the brand to say if that's true.

Color: Very very hard to photograph the gold colors accurately. I pretty much gave up. In real life, though, OpusAtelier's gold leans a titch cooler/ greener in hue; Andy Chan's is a little warmer/more brassy; Gavivi's is sort of in between. In the QC pics I got (and a few of my own), Gavivi's looked really yellow, but IRL, it is much paler. Gavivi's color is my own personal favorite, because of my pale skin, followed by Opus, and then AC. But someone tanner may prefer otherwise.

Clasps: The easiest, smoothest-opening clasp is on the Opus MOP; AC and Gavivi are both equal in 2nd place. The Opus jump ring (the first one) has the eagle stamp on it. AC's has no stamp at all. Gavivi has 3 stamps on that jump ring.

Motif size: Gavivi's pave motif is about 1/10 of a mm smaller than the other two, but I must say that measuring this with my calipers was really difficult - do you try to measure bead-to-bead or go on the inner rim around the edge? I didn't want to scratch the MOP or onyx either. When I stack all 3 on top of each other, they all look to be exactly the same size, but I do think the Gavivi pave is oh-so-slightly smaller. It is also less thick, but that may be how the auth pave is compared to auth MOP/onyx. I'm not sure.

Chain length: Both Gavivi and AC have the auth chain length of 42cm with a jump ring at 38cm. OpusAtelier's length, sadly, is quite off, with a total length of 43.5cm and the 2nd jump ring at 39.5cm.

Weights: MOP: 5.1g; Onyx 5.1g; Pave 5.8g. These are all accurate to their auth equivalents. The pave always weighs more.

Overall, I love all of them, but am partial to the pave. Would love any observations you all might add, even better if you have an auth to compare to!

Go easy on a clueless wife trying to surprise hubby?

Hi guys! I've been into 18k jewelry + handbag reps for awhile, and my husband has graciously tolerated my purchases. I'd love to surprise him with a rep watch, but I know nothing about this space. Similar to my bag/jewelry hobby, I understand the basics of finding a TS and the need to pick the best factory based on what they're good at. However, I am clueless with what's even possible in the rep space. My husband isn't a huge watch/brand fan; he doesn't have certain models or brands he's in love with. All I know is that he admires high-end mechanical watches, primarily because of the engineering of their mechanisms. He likes it when watches have a "window" into the mechanics, whether on front or back (front is better... but usually means crazy high end?), so you can see their (as he calls it) "little beating heartbeats". He has thrown out words like "tourbillon" and "escapement" but I am fairly clueless (as you can tell) about all things watch. He doesn't care about the prestige of a brand; in fact, he'd probably be upset if I overspent on an auth watch for him. He is an engineer, and one of his bucket list goals, in his limited free time, is to 3D print a mechanical clock that he designs himself. So the rep watch thing would be less about looking like he has a super expensive brand on his wrist, and more about getting good mechanics, if that makes sense?

My main concern is whether there are even any good reps of watches that have intricate mechanisms? How would I start looking for some models that might fit the bill?

Thank you for your help and patience.

Sunscreen "improving" skin quality?

Just curious about something it seems like I've been reading more and more lately: people saying that daily sunscreen use has "improved" the quality of their skin, like something along the lines of "using sunscreen every day has been the #1 thing that has drastically improved my skin over the last year - it's like a night a day difference"

I came to daily sunscreen use later than I wish I would have, but I faithfully use it every single day now. That said, I thought the whole point of sunscreen was to protect you from incurring further damage, but that it couldn't necessarily make any actual improvements on what's already there. Am I wrong? Is there any evidence that just using sunscreen itself makes an actual improvement in skin quality / tone / texture? I've been thinking of it as more of a "pause" button for my face (whereas something like tretinoin, I think of as being a bit of a mild rewind).

Venmo says possible scam and blocked payment - wwyd?

Hi all! I tried buying a piece of jewelry from the Rehome community just now and Venmo stopped my payment from going through saying it looks like a scam. Is this just because of the relatively high amount of money being sent FF, or is the receiving account possibly flagged for scamming? Have you ever had a successful purchase after pushing past this warning, or finding an alternative way to pay, or is this the universe telling me I shouldn't move forward? Thanks!

Which sellers cause you to incur tariffs?

I'll start with those I've ordered from:

Funny - No

OpusAtelier - No

Starsgem - Yes

Gavivi - TBD but probably yes since he asked for my FedEx account number.

Stacking woes

Ignore my ratty house-cardigan sleeve that is starting to pill LOL. I'm having the darnedest time trying to figure out a 3rd bracelet to stack with my current ones. I think odd numbers look better stacked. I wear these 24/7 and ideally would like another one that could be worn all the time without getting too tangled up. I want it in yellow gold, which throws out a lot of bracelets I would otherwise buy, but they only come in rose or white gold. I prefer not to buy fantasy pieces that aren't actually made in certain metal/stone combos by the real brands. Here are the contenders that I've considered but then basically decided against so far:

Sweet Alhambra in MOP - too fragile of a stone, would get scratched to death by the Love.
VCA 5 motif in onyx - durable stone but keeping the piano black motifs clean would drive me nutso.
Mini Frivole - I own this bracelet and have done it a couple times, but stopped because it's a little big on me, so it moves around too much and also didn't want mirror finish of Frivole getting scratched
Fred Force 10 with interchangable cords - but then I worried the cord aspect would read too much as "ponytail holder" on my wrist from afar

I'd love if VCA made the 6 motif hammered sweet alhambra in yellow gold, but they don't. Or maybe Chaumet's hexagon-and-diamond line bracelet, but again, it only comes in rose gold.

Maybe the Messika move bracelet with the 3 diamonds? VCA Perlee Pearls of Gold bangle? I know JUC and Love are a classic pairing, but I don't think the JUC would look great with the HardWear, plus I worry over the Small version's durability, in addition to it seeming overpriced for the gold weight compared to other options.

What else should I consider?

Review: Sweet Alhambra Onyx Earrings from Gavivi

Hi all, I just got my Sweet Alhambra onyx earrings in the mail from Gavivi today and wanted to write a quick review, as this was my first purchase with him.

Timeline:
5/5: Ordered and paid 30% deposit via PayPal FF (I love that he accepts PP)
5/14: PSPs ready. I had a question so I waited to approve the earrings until the next day
5/15: Approved and paid remainder of balance
5/16: Shipped
5/19: Arrived! Lightning fast!

So here's what I enjoyed most about buying from Gavivi, and why I likely will do so again:

- Good communication
- He accepts PayPal. I haven't jumped into using Wise, and I really don't want to.
- Good prices (typically not quite as good as Funny, who seems to be the lowest priced of all the major TS, but once you add shipping, the price difference is less stark, plus he includes insurance against seizure for an extra 5% which is fully refundable.)
- The timeline, omg, the timeline! 2 weeks from reaching out to him and I have my earrings in my ears right now, are you kidding me?! I absolutely hate the wait when I have packages coming, especially with all the recent stories about increased seizures. I've previously purchased from OpusAtelier, Funny, and Starsgem) and while they have great shipping that's relatively fast (7-12 days), Gavivi's 2-3 day shipping - which is free, no less - has spoiled me and it's literally a reason I would potentially choose him over other sellers if the price is pretty darn close.
- Most importantly, I'm very happy with the quality of the earrings themselves. The weight is good, the perlee beads are crisp, good engravings, I like his gold color better than Andy Chan's, and they are comfortable in the ear and feel luxe.

My one concern was whether or not the prongs were too long or rectangular, but I found pics of auths on Fashionphile and on youtube review videos, and I was able to see that, no, actually the auths are extremely similar. And once you get the earrings in person, they're so tiny that it's not magnified like it is in PSPs. I wear a ton of black, and I know I'm going to get a lot of use out of these!

I only snapped a few of my own pics, which aren't the best quality, because I was so excited to get these in my ears! I actually haven't been able to wear any earrings for years, due to pissy piercings, regardless of metal, so I went to a piercing studio a couple of months ago and got my piercings re-stretched and had them install titanium flatback studs, which I kept in 24/7 for the past couple of months so that I could start to wear regular earrings again. That's how bad I wanted these studs + to be able to wear earrings again in general! So happy right now!

Disclaimer: I get my 5% insurance fee back for writing a review, but this has no bearing on my opinion, as it can't be purchased, especially for so little $$!

VC@ 2016 Holiday Pendant 18k RG, Onyx + Lab Diamond

**SALE IS PENDING. Buyer has paid a deposit with the remainder to follow next Thurs. If she does not complete the sale, then the necklace will be back up for grabs at that point**

US-to-US rehome! I am looking to sell my VCA 2016 Holiday pendant in 18k rose gold with onyx and lab diamond that I purchased as part of Opus Atelier's Christmas group buy. Worn only a handful of times. RFS: Want to buy another wishlist piece. You can see my previous review thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/JewelryReps/comments/1q5yfpd/review_opusatelier_vca_2016_holiday_pendant/

Price I paid: $928 all in to my door

Selling price: $900 + UPS shipping. Shipping will be insured + signature required. I'm not responsible after the package is shipped.

Payment Methods Accepted: Venmo FF, PayPal FF, Paypal G&S if you cover fees.

Note that Opus messed up and sent me PSPs with a different serial number than the one that actually ended up on my necklace. They acknowledged that they reused PSP pics and made a mistake in my case. I'm guessing they got overwhelmed with the holiday pendant group buy orders. Either way, it was frustrating, but you can reach out to Jack, who will confirm that I bought this pendant from him and that it's solid 18k gold. I took the necklace to a jeweler who is local to me (Christopher's Fine Jewelry in West Des Moines, IA), who XRF tested it and confirmed that it is 18k and real diamond. FWIW, the person who tested it totally thought it was auth lol (I'd said it was inherited so I didn't know).

Hi all, my family of 4 (2 kids who will be 13 and 16) is booked for Tokyo from March 9-20 next year. We land on the 10th, midafternoon, but I know that day will be entirely a blur due to jetlag and we won't do anything except find some food and crash at the hotel. We'll then have 9 full days on the ground + a little bit of time on the 20th since our departure flight doesn't leave until 5pm.

With 9 full days, and it being our first time to Japan, would you spend the entire time in Tokyo and just take some daytrips from there, or would you try to include Kyoto? For daytrips, I initially thought we might want to do DisneySEA, but now I'm rethinking that. Otherwise we would be interested in anything nature-y and calmer as a break from the city, but probably not an onsen b/c the kids aren't cool with group nudity. If we try to include Kyoto, I am assuming we'd need probably 3 nights there and then make our way back to Toyko the day before we fly out, so that plan creates a bit of time/hotel fragmentation and lost time, but if 5-6 days in Tokyo and 3 in Kyoto seems to be a good idea, then we could make that work.

It's obviously a busy time of year in Japan. Probably too early for the sakura, but we may get lucky and see plum blossoms? Thanks for any advice!
