My favorite

This is absolutely my favorite Gregorian chant version of the rosary. I’ve played it at work as background, during workouts and at night. So peaceful, I’m even finding myself singing it when I don’t have it on.

Pocket journaling

Recently I was intrigued by finding out pocket notebooks were such a huge thing. I really wanted to get field notes but found these at Walmart (pack of 3 for a dollar and change).

Using this one to write down prayers, quotes from saints and bible verses. Anyone else have a pocket notebook for this?

It’s originally black but i printed some images and taped them on to have a custom feel.

First pocket notebooks

On a tight budget found these at Walmart for a dollar and some change. I already started writing on one that will be dedicated to prayers, quotes from saints and Bible verses. Another one might be my daily todos… haven’t made up my mind yet

Also, any suggestions on pens? I love pilot G2 but wish they had a more elegant design kinda like the zebra g301

The Holy Trinity

So this might be long but I need to vent and get insight from some more seasoned Catholics. So I was baptized Catholic and grew up Baptist then went nondenominational. This year I started researching and questioning and ended up at mass. Started to attend every week and eventually found a group at my parish that’s Bible/church history/ theology. We touch different topics and we’ve had new people that have been Catholics their whole lives and didn’t know how to read their Bible. We helped them understand basics.

Anyway, the leader/teacher has a certificate to be Catholic teacher and he has two people that have been in his group consistently for 7 years so he sees them as more advanced theologically.

So today after a few months attending I finally had the courage to point out a mistake I noticed him say a few times already. He said that Jesus is the Father and the Holy Spirit and the Son all in one person. I told him that was incorrect. And brought up the catechism where it says there is one God three persons. That we couldn’t say that God is one person. And him and those two students of his kept telling me I was wrong and even made comments saying the catechism isn’t always right and it confuses people. They also said things along the lines of well you’re new and probably confused with your Protestant background because Protestants don’t believe in the trinity. They kept making it seem like I was wrong and that the way they were explaining God was correct. It turns into a 20 minute debate where I was pretty passionate about God is one with three persons. Also one of his students said something like God was one way in the old testament but he wasn’t like that anymore in the new, make in it seem like God changed modes or something. The Son isn’t the Father or the Holy Spirit etc. I thought this was basic understanding?

When I got home I googled and saying that God is one person is the heresy of modalism and even getting into Unitarianism.

He even told me I was selfish for taking the class off topic and not thinking of the other people in the class that weren’t on the level to debate the trinity. He doesn’t want people to get scared and stop going to his class because of debates or deep theological questions that would be best one on one.

I want to tell him I want to discuss this one on one when he has time but what would y’all recommend?

I was thinking discussing one on one and if he is still gaslighting me and adamant about this teaching being correct then I would have to talk with the priest. I’m started ocia to receive my confirmation and get my marriage convoluted so part of me feels like I’m not at the right spot to call him out. I’m usually a quiet person that doesn’t like to interrupt but I had to call it out. No where that I looked does it say the church teaches that God is one person. Brothers and sisters in Christ please give me some Godly counsel, was I in the wrong? Should I keep attending this parish group?

Any tips

I do need to trim a bit but any suggestions otherwise? This is the first time I feel somewhat confident with my facial hair. The initial growth phase was awkward but it’s looking promising.

So I recently just got a small icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the past two days my office has smelled like flowers when I get here in the morning. I have a terrible nose, can’t hardly smell anything unless it’s really strong or right under my nose. I’ve worked here for 9 months and it’s never smelled like flowers before.

I bought it on Thursday, brought it work on Friday for my desk. I come in Monday morning and today and there’s a flowery smell. Not sure if the cleaning team started to spray my office with an air freshener or it’s Our Lady. Has anyone had an experience like this before?

Hey guys, new here. I’m in a spot I never thought I would be and it’s very exciting but it makes me nervous at the same time. I’m going to share my story so maybe this helps and edifies anyone on the same path. This may be long.

I was baptized Catholic and did my first communion. My parents were culturally Catholic and went through the motions and never explained much to me that I remember. Around the time I was 10 my mom started going to a Baptist church and took us kids. Since then I was heavily involved with the Baptist church and consequently turned very anti catholic. I was taught Catholics weren’t Christians, that they worship Mary and saints. That saints aren’t real and can’t do anything. That it’s all demonic etc. my dad would still go to mass at times and we would clash on certain topics, one i remember was the crucifix. I asked why the Catholic Church had Jesus on the cross if he’s not there anymore and he didn’t know, he couldn’t give me an answer. (Now I know it’s to remember the sacrifice Jesus made, to reflect and meditate on it) Eventually he went to the Baptist church and that where he truly had a change in him. Later in my late teens I went the nondenominational route (which is basically Baptist, its own denomination and its own tradition lol). Still highly anti catholic and any chance I would get to post about how Catholics were wrong I would, re-posting and posting things on my story.

I am Mexican and most Mexicans are Catholic (by name). I didn’t see any right examples of Catholicism. All the Catholics I knew were alcoholic, used drugs, don’t seem to have a change in their lives, don’t know the gospel much, idolizes saints heavily (I mentioned Jesus to a fellow classmate and she said she had Our Lady of Guadalupe and didn’t need to hear about Jesus, many other idolize Saint Judas Thaddeus with huge statues and money offerings thinking he protects them and not God) or even practiced santeria, witchcraft alongside with beliefs of the evil eye, etc. I know in Protestant circles there are imperfect people as well but to me it seemed like real life change and surrender to Christ was happening in the Protestant church rather than the Catholic Church. Now I realize it’s badly catechized people teaching others.

Fast forward to last year I saw some videos about Orthodoxy and it interested me but I forgot about it. In December again something came up and I was consuming hours upon hours of information of the early church and orthodoxy on YouTube. I was heavily considering then Father Lazarus a Coptic priest came up on a YouTube short and said to slow down, there’s lots of info out there so slow down. Don’t keep searching for every new and interesting thing because eventually you’ll watch all the videos and then what? Will your faith keep you in the church or will you be bored because there’s no new thing? So, I stopped and asked God for discernment and I heard Him say to stay at the church I was for now. I stopped the YouTube consumption for about a month (Still not considering Catholicism) then Trent Horn came up, Matt Frad, Father Mike etc. I was intrigued by the way the explained things and realizing the church teaches different things that my culture has been practicing traditionally.

My stance against icons and statues and saints started to wear down as I learned more of what the church taught about them and their role. Then I had a longing to take my grandmother to mass (she’s a life long catholic but lives with my mom so nobody wants to take her to mass). She never had a huge devotion to a saint that I saw but she has such a pure heart and her focus is on Jesus. I took her and stepped into mass for the first time in over a decade. The first time as an adult, I paid attention to the songs and the readings. I was astonished to say the least, everything I was told about this growing up was a lie. I was told the Catholic church didn’t teach the true gospel but when I went to mass I heard the gospel straight. Jesus is the lamb of God, there’s no other way to the father except through Him. I fell in love with it and even more interested. I asked God again if He wanted me to move fully to the Catholic Church and He said no. My wife was still not onboard and liked our nondenominational church.

For the last three months I’ve been watching nonstop Catholic apologetics and how wrong and different the Protestant interpretation on many things is compared to scripture and the early church. Recently we were in a small group since we were trying to make friends a church. We dint have a good experience with one of the couples, they took us out to lunch and we thought it went well but they stopped answering our texts and don’t even talk to us after our small group meeting anymore. It left us puzzled and wondering what did we do? Needless to say it bursts my wife’s bubble and she became very open to the Catholic Church. While it took her to get to that point I was noticing the cracks in the nondenominational world and my bubble was bursting as well. I looks like a business and it’s a mediocre rock concert with a religious Ted talk labeled worship. This is a mega church also so the faults were amplified. Also I have grown a sadness the last 3-4 years seeing very little to no reverence in the evangelical world.

Now my wife told me “wherever God leads you I will follow. “ this is the second week we go to mass and we went for Good Friday as well. She likes it and I’m teaching her the little things I know. My constant prayer is that God guides and that it’s Him who’s leading me here not anyone or anything else. That He examines my heart and intentions that it’s His will not mine to come here. Now as I’m thinking of fully coming back I’m going to slow down on the YouTube videos and read for myself. I truly love mass and looking forward to what God has in store for my family and I.

Please pray for me.

If you had this journey or are in it I appreciate any resources or what’s helped you. Just read Rome Sweet Home, reading A Biblical Walk Through the Mass right now and plan on reading The Apostolic Fathers next.
