Weird bug, may be exploitable ?

While building a base and making a tune in it, I had a weird thing happen : A Bytebeat device that's not connected to others has access to the synchronizer (?!).

It's connected to power, and to 6 Bytebeat switches that manage light floors. The cables between the device and the switches go through another device, this one connected to others. Both these devices are scaled up to max size using wire glitch.

I want to test if this is doable on a consistent basis, and I ask of you, kind and wholesome and really really nice reader, to test this as well in your game.

If me and a few other persons are able to do it, that means we could have a way to get a device with its own key / tempo to play exactly when we want in the loop, without having to set up a "mirror device". Imagine the possibilities.

The exact build I'm talking about is in the screenshots. I'll get back with an update once I do my testing !

Update : Just realized it affects the switches too. If I have a BB cable going from a device to a switch and clipping through another device, the switch is triggered by both devices' notes and beats. Have more testing to do :)

10 Years of NMS Tribute : 65daysofstatic - Asimov (Cover)

My take on (a part of) 65daysofstatic's Asimov, with a collection of planets and places I went and some things I built (last base shown is not mine, it's the CCB meetup location !).

Huge thanks to Hello Games that kept adding to this awesome game for 10 years, and to 65daysofstatic and Paul Weir for the stunning soundtrack.

Posting this early since I won't be home until Sunday evening.

Grab the song at (-9.64; -145,69), glyphs on the title card near the start and end of the video ! (audio was edited for the video, it won't sound as wide in-game)

Customizable Cockpits for Corvettes !

I'm thinking about having cockpit pieces you could assemble. This would enable more ship looks/styles and creativity when building them, and would be included in the ship stats mods system :

- Various dedicated floor pieces, with snap points for the other pieces ;

- Seats ;

- Dashboards/Control Panels, providing a boost to maneuverability (as cockpits prefabs do now) ;

- Windshields, providing a boost to deflector shields ;

- Maybe some smaller/different hull pieces to go around the windshields and tie the thing together, and maybe new decoration pieces.

This would enable having roomier cockpits, differently shaping the nose of your ship while still being able to fly it in 1st person, and imo would fit well with the corvette build and upgrade systems, considering the 3 upgrade parts limit for each stat.

What do you think ?

Metroid Fusion/Dread Starship "Hunter-Class Dread X"

Disclaimer : I marked this post as tool-assisted build but it's ENTIRELY doable in-game. More on that below.

About 3 months ago u/Far-Love-2737 asked if someone would try to recreate that ship, this is my attempt.

Started working on it 2 weeks ago and this is by far the most time I spent actively building a ship (and also started over a few times lol). I built it on- and off-station, using offsets, 90°, 180° and different slight angles, learned tilts (thanks u/CharlesStoot17 for the amazing guide). I also used free-placed stairs and habs to get some pieces at the right height or offset to be really flush and get the silhouette right (but made the wings longer because).

Decorations and the interior were all done in-game too, using wire-glitch for rotating antennas and scaling lights, and a flat panel canvas to place the panels forming the half-circles.

And with all those (new to me) techniques I found myself getting frustrated with very slight differences I would get between angles from one side to the other, became obsessed with it, even. So I used Blender to correct the angled corvette pieces for one of the wings, and get symmetrical lights on the belly. I'm finally happy with this build :)

Corvette parts count is 72, with about 130 decorations. At the end of the gallery are interior shots and some top-down, inverted and sideview shots.

Thank you to everyone giving tips and advice on this sub, I read through a lot and it helps me progress in building ships I like :) Sorry for the long post !

"Underneath"

More tinkering with the waveform editor, and understanding how it works a little more.

Was experimenting to find "fx" sounds and came up with the 2 different beep-boops here ! Had fun making that bass too.

The formant and distorted lead came from ZhorasSnake's library of leads (4th one, around 1 min). I modified it a bit to get what you hear. Thank you Zhoras for these posts !

This is actually only one iteration of the whole loop. Two of the devices (for the chords) are set to 20 bpm.

Enjoy the listen !

Edit : Forgot to talk about drums here. As you may know drums sounds in the devices are tempo-dependant. By putting snares and kicks at the same time on different devices set at different tempos (here 80, 40 and 20 bpm) I got this slight offset which makes them pop and prevents phase "clashing", leaving the sounds intact. This made that "clappy", hip-hop-like snare and louder kick drum.

Building is (rewarding) patience and pain

FINALLY got it right. Not perfect, but right. By far the most I've learnt in those 2 consecutive sessions on this ship... Does glitch building get easier or am I to suffer for eternity ?

For those interested I'm working on the Starship (canon name... Yeah, for real) seen in Metroid Fusion and Dread. Here I wire glitched prox teleporters to angle the antennas in my base, then copied and eyeballed-placed them on the corvette. The half circles are flat panels, eyeballed too on a canvas of the biggest panels possible. I'll post it in full when finished.

Thank you Beeblebum for your tutorials and explanations, helps a lot !

Edit : oops flair, corrected.

Sound library project !

Hi all, hope you're having a great day.

After talking with u/PowerfulSoldier and u/ZhorasSnake, we found that having a shared waveforms /sounds cheat sheet collection here on this sub would be a great idea. It would be a source of inspiration for everyone, and a big help for beginners wanting to explore NMS Bytebeats.

As Zhoras said, there's guides and websites for ships, companions, base and corvette building, you name it, even on how to use Bytebeat devices but no example of what I'm talking about in this post. Let's make it ourselves !

The best solution would be posting a video of any number of sounds you like, showing the waveform editor screen while the sound is playing. Of course it would be great if we could have something like a pinned thread with all the videos posted in it for ease of access (wink wink mods).

Would you be interested in participating ? Do you have suggestions ? Even if you have just a handful of sounds you're willing to share it's worth it.

Thank you for reading !

My Swarm Base "Royal HQ Crims0n-1"

Hi, this is in the Teguya-Miati system, planet Enburyde XVII (+12.74, +69.49).

It's my first base this big, I always wanted to do something with a Planetary Archive.

This is a place for traveler soul fragments to come by and refuel, reload, and relax. There are things to see atop the Archive and down in the original hub of the building as well. There's a Bytebeat track of mine to grab in the pub if you want ! And of course, Sages and Weavers are all welcome too.

Glyphs are in the first and last pics. Come visit !

PS : I'm welcoming any advice or criticism you may have !

"Microride"

A chill ride in my everyday ship with a cool track.

So I found hiredgunpunx's video on how one of their track was made. So I took the lead sound from that and modified it a bit to sound more like a 70's polysynth and here we are (does this makes it a tribute ? This sound is SO good, but I probably won't use it anymore because it's kind of their trademark at this point).

Big thank you to u/hiredgunpunx for that and the title card idea, made my own in GIMP 2 after seeing theirs (if there's any problem with that I will remove it in future posts).

Another thing is I placed the first 4 bars of the chorus at the end of the loop (verse being the buildup part), and let some elements from one bleed into/foreshadow the other, goal is to make it feel less repetitive / more dynamic. And it provided a good ending IMO!

As for the video, I'm trying things. It's my first time video editing, I'm taking advice/criticisms on that as well if you have some.

Enjoy !!

"David Gekka"

Good morning/afternoon !

Went back to my kinda usual stuff. The sound was.. not ideal on my previous post, so this time I recorded all 8 devices separately, drums and riffs apart, and slapped them together in FL Studio with some panning and a simple lowpass at 30Hz + highpass at 16.5kHz on the master to clean out the sound (could be done on Audacity, which is free btw).

Shoutout to u/ZhorasSnake for a great discussion about sound processing on ByteBeat tracks, which got me to finally do it haha.

Enjoy !

PS : This is another shot of the base I'm working on in the Swarm Expedition, atop a Planetary Archive. Come visit if you'd like !

Leeka - Endless -kzzzt-

Here's the result of me getting a little sidetracked while building a base in the Swarm Expedition.

Went for a slower, longer loop than I usually do, and also compared to my other post ! I also did a lot more tinkering to get the sounds I wanted. (Also discovered some snares can be cool cymbals at really low tempi 😃)

Hope you enjoy !!

ByteBeat is so much fun !

300h in (I know, rookie numbers) and while building a base on my 1st tidal planet I figured I'll give a try to this whole ByteBeat stuff. Man, I love this !

Making music with a DAW is one of my favourite things (I am NOT a pro lol), a passion even. And from this perspective this truly feels like a video game equivalent.

Anyway, here's the earworm of a loop I came up with for my dancefloor of the night fever but in chiptune.

Even the flora of the depths is a part of the light show haha
