How to fix this weird fps drop during playback in After Effects 2026?

So I upgraded to AE 2026 about a month back and since then been having this weird fps drop during playback even though the whole timeline is loaded.

This is a 30 fps timeline and it lags like its 10 fps. I have checked settings under preview tab and it's not skipping frames or anything.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please that would be a big favor.

Only happens in AE 2026 and everything's okay in 2025 After Effects.

But because of Dynamic Link, I am forced with no other option but to use AE 2026.

Specs:
GPU - RTX 3060 - 6 GB VRAM
RAM - 32 GB
Storage - 2 TB SSD
CPU -Intel core i7

If you are working abroad but are a Sri Lankan Citizen visiting the country, read this to avoid a surprise!

So, I did not know about the fact that you need to register at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment if you are going abroad on a visa outside of tourist visa.

So that means, if you have employment or any other type of visa that allows you to work in a foreign country, you are essentially liable to register with SLBE and pay an amount (around 23K LKR) with the registration and get a stamp on your passport.

This is valid for 2 years and based on my knowledge, you need to renew this every 2 years.

I am writing this because I came back to the country after 2 years recently and was stopped at the airport just before check in and they asked me to register at the SLBE counter at the airport.

Now this came as a surprise and specially the 23K sum suddenly being requested. Also, they have a form that you need to fill. The whole process might take 15-20 even 30 minuets out of your day so it's better to be prepared.

I wanted to write this here just to give a heads up to other people in the community because,

  1. Not all of us might be prepared for a sudden payment of 23K LKR out of the blue.
  2. Not all of us would plan ahead to account for this extra process and time required for this. Make sure to at least account for 15-30 mins for this process at the airport counter just to be safe!

Also, I inquired about the purpose of this and they said it's for information for the government and incase of any emergency situation, the government needs to keep track of it's citizens who are working abroad to be able to make sure they are safe etc.

What's going on with obnoxious tuktuk pricing?

I just came back to the country after 2 years of being away, hopped in a tuk right infront of OGF because rain was starting to pour and this guy showed me he started a meter in his phone (which was already a red flag at that point).

But I stopped at Mount Lavinia (near the Templers road junction) and this guy with a straight face asked me for Rs.1,800?

Like for context, on the way to OGF I took two detours to Jawatte and then to OGF and each individual trip didnt cost me beyond Rs.800. Only difference is both those times I used Uber or Pick Me to book the tuks. This time I took the gamble and got in a tuk which was parked there.

Honestly I told him it was too much but he said "Now fuel prices are high, and we don't get too much fuel", which I fully understand, but still think it's obnoxious for a sub 20 min ride on like 11-12 km distance in moderate traffic.

In the end I didn't want to argue so I gave the money and walked away.

But, is this the pricing of normal tuks now? If so, why do people even use them anymore? Because this is insane!

Hey guys! I'm a Video Editor working mainly with YouTubers in the educational niche. I have a problem that I think is slowing me down quiet a bit and I am curious how others approach editing similar videos.

So my editing process can be broken down into the below steps:

  1. Color grade and Rough cut
  • Client sends the footage, I download it, get it on premiere, (make proxies and link if the footage is 4k), then I color grade and remove out the silences with AI and finalize the rough cut after removing the retakes (Typically takes 1-2 hours for a 30-40 min recording)
  1. Decide animations
  • Here I drop markers on the timeline while ideating on which parts need animations. (Typically takes 2-3 hours for a 10-15 min video)
  1. Dynamic linking
  • I dynamic link the footage and audio of parts that needs animations (since I decided with markers earlier, this is relatively straight forward but ends up wasting a lot of time because of lags in dynamic linking etc. (I would say this consumes 30 mins on average and typically for a 10-15 minute video I end up having 20 to 40 comps dynamic linked)
  1. Animating in After Effects
  • Now this is where I animate everything.
  • This also lands me to my first bottleneck. All my animation ideas are in Premiere as markers, but I almost always make sure to close Premiere while animating to make sure my PC doesn't slow down and After Effects doesn't lag.
  • This is the most time consuming task and it takes me anywhere from 10 to 18 hours depending on the complexity of the animations required.
  1. Rendering animations from AE
  • Next I typically render the animations from AE and replace them in Premiere.
  • Not sure if I am wasting time doing this but I've tried the other ways and found this to be the fastest. But lately been wasting a lot of time doing this.
  • Typically I do these renders overnight. (Takes anywhere from 3-4 hours for all comps to render)
  1. Adding zooms
  • Next I add adjustment layers in Premiere and do zooms using the transform effect in places which need a bit of attention. (Takes 10-15 mins max)
  1. Sound Design
  • Next I add sound effects and then music afterwards.
  • This takes anywhere from 2 to 6 hours depending on complexity of the video
  1. Exporting the final video from Premiere Pro
  • Takes 5 to 10 minutes max since the animations are already rendered.

Approx total time spent: 34 hours

I am curious to know where I could save time because I have seen editors who do 3-4 such videos a week.

Thanks a lot in advance guys!

I was browsing some posts about ASUS Tuf getting overheated, and someone recommended G Helper.

Honestly been a game changer. I had set my laptop to "turbo" mode through Armoury Crate but when I downloaded G helper, it was showing only the GPU is set to ultimate and the CPU is still running in Balanced mode.

I was facing so many crashes and lags and random hangs in the past 3-4 weeks and it's been a couple of days since I am running G helper and genuinely notice way less hang ups and crashes.

I was almost ready to give up on this laptop so I thank the people of this subreddit for coming clutch!
