So I'd like to preface this by saying I have ridden on and off through my life and just recently started proper lessons, however I have never owned a horse myself and therefore never had to really understand the difference between different trailers.
My question is, what is the differences between livestock trailers and horse trailers? I googled it and it mostly said that horse trailers are more comfortable because they have rubber mats on the floor and are a bit taller but I've always heard you don't want to transport horses in a stock trailer but never been told why. I'd also like to know how much nuance there is on the subject, like could you transport a horse in a stock trailer for a short distance like 1 hour away? If so, how far is too far? What are the risks other then it just being uncomfortable? Could you turn a stock trailer into a suitable horse trailer by adding padding and other amenities?
I do plan on buying a horse in the DISTANT future but not anytime soon so I'm not trying to transport a horse unsafely but I'd still like to know for the future.
