Potential Sequel idea?

I had an interesting thought just now. If both Erid and Earth noticed that Tau Ceti wasn’t dimming, and both Erid and Earth were populated by life seeded from Adrian, with complex societies… how many more were there that saw Tau Ceti, or better yet saw that Sol and 40Eridani were brightening back to normal levels.

So could there be potentially dozens of other alien civilizations in the local group, all descended from Adrian life, all coming to Sol and 40Eridani to ask for the solution? If I were an alien civilization, I’d go to the stars that were brightening again because that would imply life around their systems already figured the problem out.

What if in the sequel Grace decides to finally go back home in his old age, and Rocky and some other Eridians joined him, after expanding the ship with some Eridian biosphere attachments and larger fuel tanks, and on the way out of the 40 Eridani system they bump into more aliens from other systems and get sidetracked into helping them?

We could have a side plot of some Eridians who went to Earth to set up communications and an embassy or something long before Grace decided to set out, so they are already arriving when the story starts, and they have to deal with helping earth out of all the problems it’s gone through in the nearly 30 years of decreasing stability, as well as new aliens arriving at Earth to ask for help on top of everything else.

I doubt this is how a sequel would go but I thought it made for an interesting idea that seems plausible by the facts established in universe.

I put this as book discussion because I doubt a second movie will be made until a second book is released and Andy Weir has toyed with the idea, and I think this plot though unlikely works in the book setting as well, even if Grace would be like 70 by the time it was over.

Spider ladies and Alabama

Am I the only one who noticed this? Also both men are dads who lost their children, and both are knowledgeable and experienced in a strange supernatural place or situation.

Alilloi vocab, Labor and Craft (+some adjectives)

so a little explanation of glyphs and meanings.

the small tear drop shape with a little two lobed thing coming out of it is a sprouting plant coming out of a seed, being used in both a literal meaning of farming, and a less literal meaning of "to be sprouted from the same source / being the source of sprouting" in family vocab.

two or three dots also represent seeds or perhaps multitudes. The symbol for Father having a tusk and a dragon horn represents respect and in Alilloi culture means the one who carries the honor of the dragon blood to his children.

The Mother symbol has an Egg for new life, and drops which could represent the rains that bring life to the earth or the milk mothers of animal and person alike provides.

The Ingot symbol used as the base of metallurgical concepts is based on bronze age "hide ingots" that where used at the time as a form to easily transport metal.

Gold means sun-metal, Silver means moon-metal, Bronze is in symbol dragon-metal, and in name alilloi-metal, Tin in symbol means part of bronze metal, and in name rare-metal, Copper in symbol means the fire metal, and in name means the dragon-metal, Iron means the death-metal as it is poisonous in high quantities to Alilloi.

New Alilloi vocab; magic and the Sea (part 1?)

have been working out a lot of new glyphs on paper, but it takes time to make them look nice, add a cursive form and a pronunciation in Alilloi for the word.

I did add a couple words out of theme, such as warrior and cork oak, but I am simply adding what I come up with as I get there.

Magic = bird wing, star, drop of blood or libated liquid. Based on the ancient concepts of magic, divination through the flight of birds, the motion of the stars and the blessings brought about by the blood of sacrifice or the sacrificial libation of alcohol or oil.

To Bless = to pour + star. divine will brought by libation or sacrifice is the main idea.

Cork Oak = scales + acorn. Acorn for oaks, scales because many languages note cork oak's rough bark.

Octopodes I think are mythologically and culturally important to the Alilloi, so there are multiple glyphs that mean Octopus, one from the side, one from the front, one from the bottom.
