Church Street gleams with artisan soap, cremee and craft beer signs so bright,
While a man convulses on the cobblestones in the "golden hours" waning evening light.
Step around the needles and feces, darling, mind the orange caps and turds that gleam,
This is the *"Queen City" of Vermont*, or so goes the liberal progressives dream.
The tent cities bloom like roses along the bike path and along the creek,
Tarps and trash and shopping carts, a village of the meek and weak.
*"Housing is a human right!"* the council chants in soft refrain,
While human waste runs in the gutter, and rests on the walk, while nobody asks why or explains.
Scab-covered specters shuffle, shouting at pigeons, ghosts, children and God,
Downtown's a "stage of open sores" where sidewalk once were trod.
A stabbing here, a beating there, "an isolated case," so they say,
Then wonder why the shops all shut and the young families moved away.
Oh, don't you dare say "consequence," don't utter "cause and effect,"
Just wave your flag of tolerance and avert your eyes, correct!

Residents are tired of watching open-air drug use, theft, public disorder and the criminal ecosystem surrounding it become normalized in this once beautiful city.
Mayor, City Council, Public Safety Officials STOP debating the problem. START confronting it!
The elected public officials of Burlington SHOULD PROCEED in deploying Flock cameras at all major roadways and known hotspots for drug activity and crime including; Church Street, the Transit Center, Buell Street, the Main Library, the Marketplace Garage, Manhattan Drive and u/Route the 27 Bike Path to name a few.
Deploy the cameras. Gather the evidence. Arrest offenders. Prosecute criminals. Restore public safety. Give the Burlington Police the tools to identify suspects, connect crimes, recover stolen property and build cases that prosecutors can actually pursue.
This isn’t about harassing people who are struggling. It’s about finding the people committing crimes and giving police the evidence to hold them accountable. People who steal, deal drugs and prey on the citizens here should not be able to disappear down the street and become someone else’s problem.
