Should Christians Observe the Sabbath?

Should Christians Observe the Sabbath?

One of the most debated questions among Christians is whether believers are still required to observe the Sabbath.

I've heard compelling arguments from both sides.

Those who believe Christians are no longer obligated to observe the Sabbath often point to Colossians 2:16–17, where Paul writes:

"Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ."

From this passage, many conclude that Christians are no longer under an obligation to observe a specific Sabbath day because Christ fulfilled what the Sabbath pointed toward.

On the other hand, some Christians argue that the Sabbath was established long before the Law of Moses. God rested on the seventh day after creation (Genesis 2:2–3), and this occurred before Israel received the Torah. Because of this, they believe the Sabbath was intended for all humanity—not just the nation of Israel.

So how should Christians think about this?

Personally, I understand why sincere believers arrive at different conclusions.

I do not believe a Christian's salvation depends on observing the Sabbath. Scripture consistently teaches that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ—not by keeping the Law. Christ fulfilled the Law on our behalf, and our ultimate rest is found in Him.

At the same time, I also understand why many Christians choose to set aside one day each week to rest and worship God. A rhythm of rest is both wise and beneficial, and it reflects a principle established by God at creation.

Historically, most Christians have gathered for worship on Sunday because it is the day Jesus rose from the dead. Others continue to observe Saturday as the Sabbath. While there are historical discussions about how Christian worship developed over the centuries, the New Testament places greater emphasis on faith in Christ than on requiring believers to observe a particular day.

Paul's words in Colossians remind us not to judge one another over these matters. Christians should be careful not to bind the consciences of other believers where Scripture gives freedom.

Ultimately, I believe Paul provides the right perspective.

If you observe the Sabbath as an act of worship to God, praise God.

If you do not observe the Sabbath because you believe your rest is found in Christ, praise God.

Our righteousness is not found in the day we keep—it is found in the Savior we trust.

Our freedom is in Christ.

Sonic is the best fast food chain in the USA

Sonic is better than Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, Wendy's, Chipotle, and Taco Bell. It's the king of fast food. They have great food and their drinks are just as amazing as their food.

From the slushies to the milkshakes, you can't go wrong with Sonic.

Their burgers are amazing too.

Even though this is an unpopular opinion, it is objective truth!

Did Jesus Really Say He Wants People to Be Spiritually Dead

Did Jesus Really Say He Wants People to Be Spiritually Dead?

Revelation 3:15–16 is one of the most quoted—and most misunderstood—passages in the Bible:

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

Many people read this passage and conclude that Jesus would rather someone be spiritually dead than spiritually lukewarm. After all, He says, "I wish you were either cold or hot."

But is that really what Jesus meant?

No.

In fact, the idea that Jesus prefers people to be spiritually dead contradicts the rest of Scripture. Jesus came to seek and save the lost. He calls sinners to repentance, not spiritual death. Throughout His ministry, He continually pursued those who were far from God and invited them into a relationship with Him.

Jesus consistently warned against spiritual complacency, not spiritual life itself. In the Parable of the Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1–13), the foolish virgins (believers) were condemned because they were unprepared for the bridegroom's (Jesus) arrival. Likewise, in the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30), the lazy servant was rebuked for failing to use what his master had entrusted to him. In both cases, Jesus calls His followers to faithfulness, readiness, and obedience—not spiritual indifference or death.

So what was Jesus talking about?

To understand His words, we need to understand the city He was addressing: Laodicea.

The Water of Laodicea

Unlike many ancient cities, Laodicea did not have a reliable water source of its own. Water had to be brought in from surrounding areas.

Hot water came from nearby Hierapolis and was useful for bathing, healing, and medicinal purposes. Cold water came from Colossae and was refreshing for drinking.

Both hot water and cold water were useful.

The problem was what happened by the time the water reached Laodicea. During transportation, the water often became lukewarm. It was no longer hot enough for healing and no longer cold enough to be refreshing. It had become unpleasant and largely useless.

This is the picture Jesus uses.

The Real Meaning of "Lukewarm"

Jesus is not saying He prefers spiritual death over faithfulness.

Rather, He is saying that He desires His people to be useful for His Kingdom.

Hot water serves a purpose.

Cold water serves a purpose.

Lukewarm water serves neither purpose.

The church in Laodicea had become spiritually complacent. They were comfortable, self-sufficient, and indifferent toward God. They claimed to need nothing, yet Jesus told them they were spiritually poor, blind, and naked (Revelation 3:17).

Their problem wasn't that they were spiritually "cold."

Their problem was that they had become spiritually ineffective.

A Warning for Christians Today

The warning Jesus gave to Laodicea still applies today.

It is possible to attend church, know Scripture, and call yourself a Christian while slowly becoming spiritually complacent. We can become comfortable with the world, neglect prayer, neglect God's Word, and lose our passion for Christ.

Jesus does not want us spiritually dead.

Nor does He want us spiritually indifferent.

He wants us devoted to Him and useful for His Kingdom.

When Jesus rebuked the church in Laodicea, He wasn't praising unbelief. He was warning against complacency.

Revelation 3:15–16 is not a call to be spiritually cold. It is a call to wake up, repent, and become useful once again for the glory of God.

The message is not, "Be spiritually dead."

The message is, "Don't become spiritually useless."

Best POD company to use?

I just started a store on Shopify (Christian clothing brand) and I am currently using Printful. I love the quality but I feel the shipping and fulfillment times are too long. (7-10 days)

What is the best POD company between Gelato, Printfy, Printful or is there another company you would recommend?

Ninja caught my eye but I don't know much about them.

Any recommendations or comments are welcomed.
